Front-loading transfers with loans

823

Mistakes in the transfer market are more costly to a club than any mistake made on a football field.  It’s too easy to spend millions on a transfer fee and commit to the kind of contract you or I will never see in our lives.  After contracts are signed you need to hope the player settles into the squad, and the city, sometimes hope he learns the language, and assume he can cope with the weather.

So how do you offset this?  In recent seasons Celtic have tried, when possible, to agree a deal in principle, but front-load the transfer with a short-term loan deal.  This gives the club six months or a year to ensure all the boxes are ticked before they commit the kind of resources which would have an impact on multiple seasons.

Miku is a case in point.  Glasgow is a long way from his native Venezuela, and as different from Madrid or Valencia, where he spent most of his adult life, as you will find in Western Europe.  He is a almost certainly a better player than we have seen since he arrived at the end of the summer transfer window, but it would be foolish to suggest he has settled well at the club.

If Miku doesn’t cut it, he will return to Spain in the summer, or sooner, and Celtic will have conserved millions.

I think it’s all part of the nonsense that goes on with these deals to be honest.

But Hooper is keen to stay at Celtic. We are definitely his first choice.

  2. happy new year to all Celtic fans , I am weaning myself off the booze slowly and will be tee total from tomorrow, we shall see how long it lasts.

I have 10 bottles of Becks left of the stash ( 10 green bottles?) which will see me through the Spanish football today and tonight. I have polished off the delicious M&S Carmenere over the last two nights and the Thatchers Cider has been demolished since Ne`rday, so the weaning process is in full swing.

I got sucked into watching this Breaking Bad thanks to the reviews on here and have made it through to series 3, it`s good but not as good as The Soprano`s , The Wire, Band Of Brothers or even Atlantic Boardwalk , Bryan Cranston is excellent but the supporting cast lack his warmth, just my opinion. I see Hell on Wheels is on tonight , might give that a go.

Now I see Fat Sally`s bleating about protection for his overpaid boys club is bearing fruit, how many more teams will finish without the full compliment this season, whilst McThumper and Ian Whack lay into guys with no sick pay cover in their real job. The MSM love in with Sevco has been ramped up eben more so lately, all the new year, new dawn, new challenges, new vision pish has been overplayed so much you would think they were a new club…oh dear!

The latest reconstruction debate has been recycled again , at first I saw this as the way to see Sevco skip a season on their “rise to the top” again; however would I be right in saying that a 12-12-18 split would see them have another season of making freinds in weird places again with another spell in the lowest league? Surely it does, or will we see dark forces in play again?

Anyway off to throw some money at Ladbrokes , correct score bet on 2-2 draw in Catalan derby..nothing can go wrong now.

I really cannot understand why so many posters get worked up by KevJungle. He might be a Celtic fan but he is a far bigger troll who just likes attention and likes trying to irritate others.

Just scroll on by whenever you see his name. It works for me!

Imagine getting free tickets for a freak show, and then booing at the end because the performers were so bad.

In fairness, it probably doesn’t help when there are bits of the roof falling on your head.

do youse lads think we are still a selling club? (just curious to see your answers)

    —————————–

In short my answer would be yes.

I don’t think we have a great say in keeping this team together.

I.e – FF & Hoops at some point in the near future will move on if they are serious about playing for their country.

VW would fit into any great European team and could earn himself a haul of big shiny medals.

I think what I’m trying to say is Celtic HAVE to sell these guys to ensure we squeeze out as much £ as we can to continue our investment strategy(Similar to Porto).

I believe there will come a time when we will dominate the European scene again. I truly mean that!

The Greatest hurdle we face is getting out of Scottish (corrupt) football, then and only then will we be able to flourish again.

I’m not looking for donations. Just putting away £1 a day for £125 days buddy.

    MWD

    ……………….

My fault that, I thought if the Kano125 effort could gain some more funds by sponsorship, £125 is too much to ask IMO therefore in order to make it easier for other Celts to support the effort then a figure of around £12:50 per donation/ sponsorship would encourage support.

Of course folk can donate what they like including nowt as there’s a lot of charitable effort going on as always.

MWD and the other 125 day abstainers. Great idea to put away £1 for every day off the drink. I decided to stop on New Year’s Day for a while so I think I’ll join in and do the same – gives a wee bit of additional motivation.

Hail Hail and good luck to all who participate

  9. donegalbhoy67

We’re a selling club if the price is right, I think any club apart from the top two or three are selling clubs, remember ManU and Ronaldo???

    Hail hail

  10. None of us want to see all our good players leave but if we lose one or to from midfield it could bring long term benefits.

The midfield IMO is a problem area. Most of our better players are not creative. The sale of Wanyama , Brown or Kayal could free up a place for a more attacking player. We rely too much on our wide players creating anything, a risky policy when one of our regular wide players is the erratic Sammy.

Celtic shouldn’t need 2 defensive midfielder in most domestic games, we should have a playmaker. I would like to see McGeoch given a run of games from a central position, this stick the creative players on the wing is a waste of time and always has been.

Nakamura and McGeady were never wingers and the idea of having creative players is to get the ball to them as much as possible in dangerous areas. The way things are at the moment we din’t need square pegs in round holes.

Auldheid – imagine ole Ned Flanders doing the decent thing! Compare and contrast with that vile obituary in the Herald yesterday.

One point he made really took me back. I used to crack up at my old man when he bought Rankers Pools tickets, but he pointed out the massive gulf between the prizes offered by them and our Pools set up.

There were so many of our lot doing the same back then, it’s incredible to think it now.

  12. i think hooper and wanyama will be sold in the summer and kayal might be sold this window but i’d like to see us get rid of some deadwood like mccourt and murphy, maybe bangura. Now in terms of buying this Eremenko boy we are reportedly after… Rubin Kazan want 4m for him or to swap with lustig but i dont think we want to risk that much money on a player. Rami Gershon should be signed tomorrow and i think he looks a good player. I think i read something about WBA wanting to sell Dorrans i think he might be worth a shout.

  13. Liverpool look like they might be getting Thomas Ince from Blackpool. From what I’ve seen of the lad this looks like an absolute steal at 5m.

    Brilliant.

Sevco’s very lame attempt at taking the moral high ground completely falls to pieces, like the ole roof at Ibrox, as he takes sly dig at Dundee United and Hibs.

It’s comforting to know they can’t handle the truth though. And they are not dealing with Montrose this time.

To be fair,an unusually accurate article from Keevins re Hugh Adam.

Hugh Adams relationship with the Govan club certainly required correction following the Heralds embarrassing hatchet job, however it should have came from Sevco the fact that it didnt tell us about Chuck Green and co, also it will be uncomfortable for those close to Adams that a hack from a paper which has assisted in promoting hatred for those who had a differing opinion on Moonbeams, no publication defended Moonbeams as fiercely and with extreme prejudice as the disgraced publication Keevins worked for.

Im sure Hugh Adams had a life away from yon deid club, it would have been decent if it had some reference to it in his so called obituary

I would like to see the red card stats in division 3 before sevco started in and since its such a dirty league what are the red card stats between other teams, were being told that thats how teams play there so surely red cards are very common which is why we must ask why the SFL and SFA arent doing anything about it.

Were also being told its because teams want to beat sevco but how many players have been sent off against sevco when sevco have not won?

Why would teams play dirtier against sevco than other teams they are a lot closer too in points?

If The reason is that Sevco are the team everybody wants to beat by any means necessary why havent the authorities made a public address that their leagues will not tolerate such bad sportmanship?
