Gamboa, McCarthyism

1073

Celtic were looking for a right back throughout the second half of last term, but in the early weeks of his tenure, Brendan considered Mikael Lustig and Saidy Janko sufficient for the season ahead. Mikael is four years into a successful Celtic career but his fitness issues are of a persistent nature. We’ve reached Peak Swede.

Saidy missed lot of last season, also through injury, but he showed potential in his early outing this term. Aspirations for the lad crystallised in Israel last week, but not in a good way. I’m not going to defend him, because he was unquestionably poor, but agreement only exists on his poor showing because he was prepared to receive the ball so often. Not everyone in black that night was as keen to get on the end of a pass.

That opened the door for Cristian Gamboa, 26, second choice right back for West Brom. We’re very keen, apparently. West Brom manager, Tony Pulis, is less in need of a full back whose key attribute is getting forward at speed. Horses for course, I suppose, West Brom face different challenges than Celtic.

Two rumours have circulated this week: Celtic are looking for a midfield player and James McCarthy’s position at Everton is less secure than it was a year ago. Whoever has been linking these two facts has overreached – or made them up. Celtic have no idea where this one came from but were clear, there’s nothing in it.  Getting the right midfielder remains a task in hand, but usual caveats apply.  There are no guarantees we’ll land all our targets this summer.

  1. As panic buying spreads on transfer deadline day,the magic hat man makes an audacious bid for phil adelphia…..

  2. I’d like another striker as well as a midfielder, but that’s me being greedy.

As I posted yesterday, the squad was so bloated it’ll be next summer before Brendan has got all the ins and outs completed to his satisfaction, imho.

I’m quite pleased with how this window’s went so far.I’ll still be checking all available sources regularly today for another signing, though.Just in case.

Regardless of the accusations/ counter accusations re K.U, the badgering of papa joe 55 , a man suffering from M. E. is very unbecoming of Celtic supporters.

    Very uncomfortable reading.

    Get off his case ffs.

TWISTS N TURNS Well done for supporting PapaJoe55.

Irrespective of whether you agree with me or not, you have quite rightly shone the spotlight on the mob mentality of some CQN bloggers. The blazing torch and pitchfork mentality is not just confined to huns.

We need a midflleder who can tackle and motivate team. We need a centre forward who can sniff out a goal. and we now need a centre half who is tall, athletic and can pass the ball. The Simunovic deal makes no ‘footballing’ sense as BR has never seen him play. So PL is stilli in 100^% control of who stays and goes.

    ————–

Unless of course Brendan has access to a high tech gizmo called a telly and saw/didn’t see what the rest of us did with Jozo and decided to twist, take a few €M and nurture the promising O’Connell/utilise Lustig’s potential as cover/get in a better player today?

So – last day of the window. Pretty happy so far, but would really like a solid defensive midfielder. Let’s see what happens….

If we need a back up centre half, Senderos doesn’t seem to have signed for anyone yet. :)

  9. I have to agree the mob mentality in here is getting worse by the day, the attacks on a 55 year old poster with M. E , is absolutely disgusting and makes me sick to my stomach, it’s atrocities behaviour and has no place on this blog.

IMO, it’s not the behaviour of a Celtic supporter well none that I know, but the pack who are running riot here on this blog need to pull their necks in, the name calling and accusations from these people is vile toxic bile, and as someone said , they have the audacity to slag Huns.

My memories of watching celtic in 60s and 70s were the change strip being worn at home and the away team not changing colours.

When did the concept of the “away” strip begin?

  14. garygillespieshamstring on 31st August 2016 8:24 am

Probably around the early/mid 80s. We wore the lime green away kit at Love Street when winning the league in 1986.

I also remember wearing green top away kit in a 7-0 win against St Mirren in 1981 so probably somewhere in between.

No worries. Didn’t think you were.

I was justt wondering when things switched from the home team changing strips if there was a colour clash to the away team changing. I had a feeling it was the 80s but couldn’t pin it down.

  22. Dear All who are concerned.

I asked a question, which took a long time to be resolved.

I put up my email to help clarify the situation, which now seems to be done.

I have arranged to meet PapaJoe55, and source him a ticket for a game.

I asked a question, and poked a little, when I didn’t get a reply, if that sickens you, watch out for that delicate constitution.

  23. Record can’t help themselves. I don’t know who makes the decisions like what pic to use in a story but it happens so often it is painfully obvious, Part of me sees it as a vindication and proves just how much they are hurting.

Another part says that Celtic should contact them directly and call them out on this insipid campaign. There is plenty of evidence there.

Anyhow sun is shining, golf hopefully beckons, unfortunately suffering badly with my left elbow, it’s well strapped up but I won’t know for sure if I can play till I go out & try a few practice shots. Fingers crossed.

  24. GARYGILLESPIESHAMSTRING

The strangest strip change for an away team was when I came home from Canada for a SCF Hibs V Celtic, and Celtic where TOLD no hoops as it was a clash of colours so they had to play in the away strip, I think it was the first time Celtic didn’t play in a final without the hoops, I could be wrong, but my point was, a blatent excuse to upset us once again before we kicked a ball, look out for Plenty of that in the next 11 days.

  25. Shiek and Cork……

The Peaky Blinders wore strips like that.Looked like it came from that era.

Funny enough,I dont think Celtic ever wore that strip in a match.I only ever saw it at the start of season games at Celtic Park where the 1st team played the reserves.Real glamour friendlies in those days.
