Gamboa, McCarthyism

1073

Celtic were looking for a right back throughout the second half of last term, but in the early weeks of his tenure, Brendan considered Mikael Lustig and Saidy Janko sufficient for the season ahead. Mikael is four years into a successful Celtic career but his fitness issues are of a persistent nature. We’ve reached Peak Swede.

Saidy missed lot of last season, also through injury, but he showed potential in his early outing this term. Aspirations for the lad crystallised in Israel last week, but not in a good way. I’m not going to defend him, because he was unquestionably poor, but agreement only exists on his poor showing because he was prepared to receive the ball so often. Not everyone in black that night was as keen to get on the end of a pass.

That opened the door for Cristian Gamboa, 26, second choice right back for West Brom. We’re very keen, apparently. West Brom manager, Tony Pulis, is less in need of a full back whose key attribute is getting forward at speed. Horses for course, I suppose, West Brom face different challenges than Celtic.

Two rumours have circulated this week: Celtic are looking for a midfield player and James McCarthy’s position at Everton is less secure than it was a year ago. Whoever has been linking these two facts has overreached – or made them up. Celtic have no idea where this one came from but were clear, there’s nothing in it.  Getting the right midfielder remains a task in hand, but usual caveats apply.  There are no guarantees we’ll land all our targets this summer.

BREAKING: Jozo Simunovic move to Torino breaks down after Celtic defender fails medical

Don’t think it’ll impact search for midfielder but means we won’t sign another CH as may have done had Jozo and Efe both left

It’s said our musical tastes are formed during our nursery years. The only music my folks played was in the car which in these days as some here will remember was 8 track cassettes.Pretty sad but fifty years later I remember them clear as a bell.

    _________________________________________________

True assessment: you “inherit” musical taste. My grandson, just 15, asked me the other day what other Smiths albums I had – he had heard me playing “The Queen is Dead” and had been listening to them via Apple Music.

A few months ago I had been out on a Saturday evening with my wife (he stays with us every weekend). I noticed a few Queen, Bowie and Stone Roses LP’s had been put back in the wrong place. I asked if he enjoyed them: he wanted to know how I knew he’d played them. Simple, put them back in the right order.

Bottom line is he is now listening to stuff I was into in the 70′ and 80’s! That can only be a good thing!

  9. Jozo fails his medical? Some will be pleased as they think he is good; some will be gutted as they think he is duff. If the £3m fee we will now not receive is the deciding factor in whether or not we sign a high quality player then that will be disappointing. Afterall, Jozo’s fee is only 10% of CL windfall BR and the players have won for Celtic, no?

First time at Paradise season 67/68 v Hertz, we wore the all green strip. Very confusing for a wee bhoy wondering out loud “when are Celtic playing dad” laughter and imagine trying to explain why no hoops to a 5 yr old…and still trying to watch the best team we ever had ( old enclosure) “but daaaaad” …

BMCUW- not alone in thinking Doc was correct in his line of questioning to Papajoe55 – I was following the exchange this morning and found myself thinking ‘ for gawds sake man just tell him yes or no and a pointer to how/when you met’ with no names no pack drill.

When an affirmative answer was finally given the sense was ‘ this guy is at it’ – in one response he actually refers to himself in the 3rd person, indicating to me he had temporarily forgotten which blog name he was posting under!! Was I the only one to see that!?

If Papajoe55 is genuine there are half a dozen ways a Celt can confirm that without all the palava…he travels on a bus, someone must know someone on that bus etc., etc., ( identities need not be revealed)

Papajoe55 – if you are ill with MS my heart goes out to you buddy, it really does, but you need to do yourself a favour and reach out to a trusted/ verified CQNer

Doc – If I were you, would avoid any meets until verified!

  11. No great problem if Joze stays, unless Brendan does not fancy him.I always thought the pairing of Joze and Eric would be a great one for us.Still could be.Not really surprising he failed the medical ,is it,he is in the middle of rehab for a bad injury.Very strange.

I’m not going to disagree with your points as many are valid, but it just didn’t sit well with me reading that. It came across as cyber bullying and that’s why I made my comment. It’s happening more frequently in here and international breaks seems to be the worst time for it…let’s get back to making lists, every time I’m about to post mine some bugger posts theirs and I have to scrub mine and start again…

Unfortunately blog posts, much the same as e-mail, are written and not spoken so the emphasis and tone from a verbal discourse is lost and along with it much of the meaning and spirit. Hence, a lot seem to be far harsher than the writer intends IMHO. When in “debate mode” I always try to re-read and interpret as the intended recipient and see if I still want to send it. I didn’t with a couple of posts to Tony Donnelly and the Green Man last week and had to apologise afterwards! Sentiment was correct but tone wasn’t!

As for the lists, get in first and anything similar to yours can be validly viewed as a copy!

  22. The Shamrock Strip

somwhere in the back of my mind this was called “The Danny Kaye” strip. I think he presented it to Celtic or we wore it in the 1959 Charity Cup Final when we beat team from Ibrox. Danny Kaye was appearing at the Glasgow Empire and was at the cup final, but don’t know if he presented the cup.

  26. Initial loan with purchase option makes complete sense from Torino given history of injury. If that’s the only deal on offer we should take it and get him off the wage bill. If he proves unfit for football then at least we’ll know it at Torino’s expense. Trying to sell them a cut and shut at the moment. Caveat Emptor and all that, and the caveat is reasonable from the emptor!

If there were a 6th division in England, Celtic should apply. Anything to get out of this shithole.
