Gang of 10 Arab Spring rebuked by Duff & Phelps

1001

Comments from Duff and Phelps yesterday that they were not in favour of changing the SPL voting system were intriguing.  Kilmarnock chairman, Michael Johnston, was pretty blatant about his agenda when speaking to the BBC on Saturday, suggesting the actions of the Gang of 10 was a “pro-democracy movement” similar to the Arab Spring, saying:

“It might make it easier for the [Rangers] administrators to get whatever they are going to try to achieve whether it is a CVA or new company to be informed and re-joining the SPL and SFA.

“The support of the 10 clubs might be needed at some point.”

Too right the support of the other 10 clubs might be needed at some point if a new company is to join (not re-join, for goodness sake!) the SPL and SFA.

Back in October last year we predicted Rangers would be liquidated, a Newco would be formed and would be voted straight into the SPL, with only Celtic arguing the need to maintain sporting integrity.  Everything we have heard since has reinforced this view.

The debate among the Gang of 10 has matured so far they see no issue in openly offering to support a Newco’s entry into the league in return for money (which we predicted earlier this month), mostly generated from Celtic fans, as it happens.

We await Johnston responding by sticking to his high-minded principles and telling any Newco they will not enjoy Kilmarnock’s support.

Duff and Phelps still have an enormous amount to achieve before they will even be in a position to apply for entry to the SPL on behalf of a Newco but if they do, they will surely offer the Gang of 10 a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. The Gang of 10 will take it. This debate is not about democracy, it’s about directors at clubs like Kilmarnock, who I believe now have debts of over £10m, finding a way to deal with their years of unchecked overspend.

The debate around St Mirren director, Ken McGeoch, would surely outrage sensibilities in any country in the world so I’m pleased his fellow directors have called for his resignation.  In November last year McGeoch invited Rangers company secretary Gary Withey to a meeting at the St Mirren boardroom where he revealed player contract details.

St Mirren are up for sale and could be purchased for what previously amounted loose change at Ibrox; McGeoch met Withey to discuss him purchasing the club from his fellow directors and shareholders.

For a Rangers director, influence like that should be impossible to acquire.

I do not know how the likes of Dunfermline FC or Kilmarnock FC have been allowed to run up debts of £millions, though I have a good idea, but their obvious inability to repay these debts is skewing their relative positions regarding the SPL. Let us spell it out to Dunfermline FC. As things stand you will not be in the SPL next season, you will be relegated to the SFL. Your debts will remain unpaid, whilst accruing interest. You will soon, like the Bradford Bulls, have to issue a direct plea to your own supporters, (and Rangers well wishers) in order for your club even to survive in the short term. Those Rangers well wishers cannot raise enough money to pay even their Administrators, never mind support the Pars. If you are to have a meaningful role in Scottish Football you will need to rid yourself of your Chairman, and offer to play a constructive role in any subsequent post-bellum reorganisation. If not, say hello to the Administrators!

Castlebay Barra two minutes from Ferry Terminus are two Tim pubs: Craigard Hotel and the Castlebay Hotel. I would go to the Castlebay. A real Celtic shop. Place will be jumping. There is the Heathbank in Northbay. But the best is Am Politician Bar in Eriskay. Every pub more or less south of Benbecula is a Tim pub.

  7. So up pops “Fans sectarian chants cost celtic fine” it was only a matter of time before it was reported as this and who does…Irishtimes! what planet are these people on….

  8. What grates with me is these blowhards from killie and dunfermline who have the nerve to dictate to us about football finances; its not our fault you owe millions or can’t pay your players on time, in fact without our fan base they would be up the creek without a paddle. Yet these badly run clubs have the nerve to dictate terms to one of the best run clubs in the UK, never mind scotland?

We’re not fooled by you’re laughably OTT “arab spring” rhetoric (talk about trivializing a historic event, until yesterday johnston probably thought an arab spring was a chocolate bar), this is blatant greed from chairmen who have run their clubs into the ground, celtic are quite right to tell them to get stuffed.

Well if the breaking news is correct then many a bhoy will be vindicated .

As to what may happen to them ,we have had many false dawns ,things that seem explosive to us ,fail to create anything other that a ripple in the swamp that is Scottish football .

The things that our manager has had to endure ,would have any right thinking society ,ashamed and disgusted yet HE is vilified and victimised by the bottom feeders in a see of sectarianism .

Dear East Stand Season Ticket holder

    Kilmarnock v Celtic, Saturday 7th April, K.O. 12 noon

As you may be aware, the possibility that Celtic’s visit to Rugby Park on Saturday, 7th April could be the decisive fixture in determining the winners of this season’s Scottish Premier League was greatly increased by their defeat at Ibrox last Sunday.

This raises the prospect of a repeat of the problems experienced in the final SPL fixture of last season when Rangers visited Rugby Park. In the aftermath of that match, the Club engaged in a consultation process with supporters’ organisations which concluded with the view that it would be preferable in such circumstances to allow the visiting club the exclusive use of the East Stand, as well as the Chadwick and Moffat Stands. It is not possible to prevent visiting supporters from accessing tickets when the demand is such that visiting supporters will risk ejection to gain access to stands reserved for home support only. This can, however, be mitigated by offering the visiting club a significant number of additional seats and by not offering any tickets for home support areas for sale to the general public.

There is also a financial consideration which cannot be ignored. The capacity of the East Stand is 4,900 which, if sold to visiting supporters, could raise additional funds in excess of £120,000 at a time when the Club is facing expenditure in the order of £150,000 on pitch renovation works and floodlight improvements this close season. This expenditure could be funded by offering Celtic the exclusive use of the East Stand. There would then be no requirement to compromise the player wage budget in order to meet the cost of these works.

You are therefore invited to respond to this letter/email quoting your season ticket book number and confirming whether or not you are willing to give up your seat in the East Stand for this match in exchange for a seat in the Frank Beattie Stand. If there is a clear indication that season ticket holders are willing to co-operate in this manner, the Club will proceed as outlined above.

In that event, no tickets for the Frank Beattie Stand would be put on general sale in order to improve the safety and security of this area for home supporters. An almost full Frank Beattie Stand will also lead to an improved atmosphere of support for our team in this important fixture, as was demonstrated to good advantage at Hampden in beating A*r United and Celtic with our support being concentrated in one area.

As time is short, please respond by return. If you can reply by email, please do so to survey@kilmarnockfc.co.uk

Polling will close on Saturday, 31st March at 12 noon and the outcome will be announced as soon as possible thereafter.

    Yours sincerely,

    Michael Johnston, Chairman.

The gang of ten want a bigger share of the cash,I don’t blame them,Celtic should agree for T/V to be divided equally amoungst the 12 teams in the Premier League,But,All teams in the League should play the same amount of games as Celtic, and if they are still in the SPL, Rangers.

See if Sky will offer the same money as is up for grabs now,I doubt it very much.Celtic & Rangers get a bigger slice of the pot because the supporters are inconvenienced having to travel to away games before the birds are awake at dawn.Maybe Celtic can get back to playing more games at three o’clock on a Saturday afternoon.
