Gang of 10 Arab Spring rebuked by Duff & Phelps

1001

Comments from Duff and Phelps yesterday that they were not in favour of changing the SPL voting system were intriguing.  Kilmarnock chairman, Michael Johnston, was pretty blatant about his agenda when speaking to the BBC on Saturday, suggesting the actions of the Gang of 10 was a “pro-democracy movement” similar to the Arab Spring, saying:

“It might make it easier for the [Rangers] administrators to get whatever they are going to try to achieve whether it is a CVA or new company to be informed and re-joining the SPL and SFA.

“The support of the 10 clubs might be needed at some point.”

Too right the support of the other 10 clubs might be needed at some point if a new company is to join (not re-join, for goodness sake!) the SPL and SFA.

Back in October last year we predicted Rangers would be liquidated, a Newco would be formed and would be voted straight into the SPL, with only Celtic arguing the need to maintain sporting integrity.  Everything we have heard since has reinforced this view.

The debate among the Gang of 10 has matured so far they see no issue in openly offering to support a Newco’s entry into the league in return for money (which we predicted earlier this month), mostly generated from Celtic fans, as it happens.

We await Johnston responding by sticking to his high-minded principles and telling any Newco they will not enjoy Kilmarnock’s support.

Duff and Phelps still have an enormous amount to achieve before they will even be in a position to apply for entry to the SPL on behalf of a Newco but if they do, they will surely offer the Gang of 10 a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. The Gang of 10 will take it. This debate is not about democracy, it’s about directors at clubs like Kilmarnock, who I believe now have debts of over £10m, finding a way to deal with their years of unchecked overspend.

The debate around St Mirren director, Ken McGeoch, would surely outrage sensibilities in any country in the world so I’m pleased his fellow directors have called for his resignation.  In November last year McGeoch invited Rangers company secretary Gary Withey to a meeting at the St Mirren boardroom where he revealed player contract details.

St Mirren are up for sale and could be purchased for what previously amounted loose change at Ibrox; McGeoch met Withey to discuss him purchasing the club from his fellow directors and shareholders.

For a Rangers director, influence like that should be impossible to acquire.

  1. I feel genuinely shattered by the events of last year or so…its really depressing to think of the underlying endemic sectarianism that is still active in Scotland. Much of it works insidiously, below the surface. Sometimes I think that’s worse. It has on occasion made me consider the prospect of leaving Scotland altogether. A fresh start elsewhere and free of all the bigoted bull. Lenny seems doomed to automatic guilt no matter what he does. Brines finger pointing is a disgrace. We know managers are not allowed to show emotion even though football is a passionate game and that refs are more or less beyond accountability but Lenny’s behaviour was modest in comparison to the belligerent rants of others. Butcher at Caley, the senile ravings of Brown at Aberdeen and the occasional but truly wacky apoplexy of the Sacred Cardigan are but three examples. Brown and Butcher are serial offenders and yet receive none of the opprobrium apportioned to Lenny. It truly is one rule for some ( yes we know its anyone with either a direct or loose affiliation with the brethren) and a rampant ostracism, official intimidation and establishment victimization through the vehicle of trumped up charges for someone like Lenny. It makes me sick. I think its now beginning to border on an institutional conspiracy cooked up mainly by ego obsessed referees and the problem is these diehard perfidious plotters and conniving cabals are systemically organized- they stand tight with each other through their “dignified silence”…but we know their scam stinks as bad as a sett of skunks on heat.

I for one support Lenny one hundred percent against this camarilla of cheats and phoney’s.

So, if understand the point correctly,

The establishment cover-up is responsible for the course of Hollie Greig’s life and that of her mother.

If you don’t accept that premise, then you are a disgrace as a Celtic fan.

Social worker Liz McLean was behind both the Rochdale and the South Ronaldsay cases.

Drs. Marietta Higgs and Geoffrey Wyatt were responsible for the Cleveland cases.

Suspending disbelief, avoiding critical thinking, complex covert personal agenda and blind faith in what someone says without any corroborating evidence ruined the lives of hundreds of children.

I expect that the court decisions dismissing them were also all cover-ups, and the litigation by those damaged children seeking justice for the abuse by McLean, Higgs and Wyatt is discredited too.

  3. Maybe the banner in Udinese should have been:

    Feck Eddie Smith???

    Or

    Eddie Smith has selective hearing???

    Or

Eddie Smith seems to have moments of deafness whilst at Ibrox?

It sure as hell is not PL’s fault that we got fined. The brains trust that thought that wording was a good idea are 100% to blame.

We are once again getting abused by the impartial press and its all our own fault.

I remember David Icke being one of the very first to run with the Hollie Greig story, this always gets me suspicious because I know he is a disinfo agent.

It would not surprise me one bit if the establishment have utilised the fact that most people think Icke is a rocket, to discredit the Hollie story.

The Scottish Football Association’s compliance officer Vincent Lunny has written to Neil Lennon for the third time in just over a week, asking for an explanation of comments made by the Celtic manager about referees ahead of their Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with St Johnstone at Parkhead this coming Sunday.

Ahead of the visit of the Saints, which will be refereed by George Salmond, Lennon was quoted in Tuesday’s Evening Times as saying: “It will be nice just to be able to go out and think only about winning a game of football – and maybe have a decent refereeing performance into the bargain.”

The Parkhead boss has allegedly breached rule 69, which prevents managers commenting on referees before games, a rule which was implemented at the start of the season. The Northern Irishman has until Friday to respond.”

Haven’t the SFA anything better to do than write letters to Neil Lennon? If the Quatari League is happy enough to have one of our referees, (Craig Thomson, at the weekend) can we have one of theirs in exchange? Call it part of the Arab Spring if it will make you feel better!

We are burdened with a squad of referees who are biassed and incompetent. That is why they are held in such low regard in Europe. By far the best two referees we have seen at Celtic Park in the last ten years have both been foreigners – Collini and the big fellow from Luxembourg who refereed during the referees’ strike – Oh for another strike! The were decisive, fair and unobtrusive. They were both applauded off the park at the end of each game. WHEN WILL WE SEE THEIR LIKES AGAIN!

  23. Fans sectarian chants cost Celtic UEFA fine

Soccer: Celtic has been fined €25,000 for fans’ misbehaviour in the Europa League game against Udinese in Italy last December, UEFA have confirmed.

After the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Friuli, the Parkhead club were charged with, “the displaying of a banner of an offensive nature and the setting off of fireworks by supporters”.

The decision to fine Celtic was made by UEFA’s control and disciplinary body on February 23.

A UEFA spokesperson told Press Association Sport: “Celtic have been fined €25,000 by UEFA‘s control and disciplinary body for breaching Article 11 of the UEFA disciplinary regulations.

“The decision was taken on February 23. It is nothing out of the ordinary that it wasn’t announced then. We can have 100 cases at the monthly meetings. Celtic did not appeal.”

Some Celtic fans held aloft a two-part banner which insulted UEFA, days after the club were fined about €12,700 for “illicit chanting” involving pro-IRA songs at a Europa League game against Rennes at Celtic Park.

Several flares were also let off and one was thrown on to the pitch side track.

Celtic banned for life one fan who was arrested in Italy over the alleged assault of a club steward, and who they say was one of those responsible for the banner.

Manager Neil Lennon and chief executive Peter Lawwell hit out out at the “rogue” element within their support on the day after the game.

The club also vowed to sift through photographic evidence to find those fans responsible for the use of the flares, warning that they will take “appropriate action”.

“It is very frustrating. Those people are not Celtic supporters,” said Lawwell.

“We will weed them out and these guys will not get back into Celtic Football Club. One or two silly little juvenile boys doing funny kids’ pranks and stuff is bringing the whole of Scottish football down.”

Lennon added: “My only surprise is that they got the spelling (on the banner) right.

“I am very disappointed, they have let me down, they have let the board, players and background staff down and 99.9% of the support down.”

Article 11 pertains to: inappropriate behaviour on the part of their supporters, including; the invasion or attempted invasion of the field of play; the throwing of objects; the lighting of fireworks or any other objects; the use of laser pointers or similar electronic devices; the use of gestures, words, objects or any other means to transmit any message that is not fit for a sports event, in particular if it is of a political, offensive or provocative nature; acts of damage; any other lack of order or discipline observed inside or around the stadium.

    —————————————————————————

So a banner and a flare equate to “sectarian chants”. Bloody lazy journalism

the Scottish hacks would be proud of.

  24. If our manager is found guilty and given a fine/ban for this latest trumped up charge then the club, players and management team, should withdraw from all interviews with the media. No press conferences before/after matches, no pre/post match comments and no marketing with SPL/SFA sponsors.

Do all communication with support via the website and Celtic TV.

  25. Ridiculous from the SFA, who said they weren’t vindictive?

A joke that they are going after Neil like this yet every other manager is allowed to make criticism of a ref without punishment: is Neil not allowed to say ANYTHING mildly critical?

Who do these ref’s think they are and why do they think they are so bloody untouchable? They’re AWFUL.
