Gang of 10 Arab Spring rebuked by Duff & Phelps

1001

Comments from Duff and Phelps yesterday that they were not in favour of changing the SPL voting system were intriguing.  Kilmarnock chairman, Michael Johnston, was pretty blatant about his agenda when speaking to the BBC on Saturday, suggesting the actions of the Gang of 10 was a “pro-democracy movement” similar to the Arab Spring, saying:

“It might make it easier for the [Rangers] administrators to get whatever they are going to try to achieve whether it is a CVA or new company to be informed and re-joining the SPL and SFA.

“The support of the 10 clubs might be needed at some point.”

Too right the support of the other 10 clubs might be needed at some point if a new company is to join (not re-join, for goodness sake!) the SPL and SFA.

Back in October last year we predicted Rangers would be liquidated, a Newco would be formed and would be voted straight into the SPL, with only Celtic arguing the need to maintain sporting integrity.  Everything we have heard since has reinforced this view.

The debate among the Gang of 10 has matured so far they see no issue in openly offering to support a Newco’s entry into the league in return for money (which we predicted earlier this month), mostly generated from Celtic fans, as it happens.

We await Johnston responding by sticking to his high-minded principles and telling any Newco they will not enjoy Kilmarnock’s support.

Duff and Phelps still have an enormous amount to achieve before they will even be in a position to apply for entry to the SPL on behalf of a Newco but if they do, they will surely offer the Gang of 10 a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. The Gang of 10 will take it. This debate is not about democracy, it’s about directors at clubs like Kilmarnock, who I believe now have debts of over £10m, finding a way to deal with their years of unchecked overspend.

The debate around St Mirren director, Ken McGeoch, would surely outrage sensibilities in any country in the world so I’m pleased his fellow directors have called for his resignation.  In November last year McGeoch invited Rangers company secretary Gary Withey to a meeting at the St Mirren boardroom where he revealed player contract details.

St Mirren are up for sale and could be purchased for what previously amounted loose change at Ibrox; McGeoch met Withey to discuss him purchasing the club from his fellow directors and shareholders.

For a Rangers director, influence like that should be impossible to acquire.

Administrators Duff & Phelps – who yesterday said it could take months to pick which of five bidders will buy the club – are charging up to £654 an hour for each member of their staff’s service.

Tuesday and Thursday nights are time and a half, and weekends are double time.

Expenses such as air fares and hotel bills are on top.

The Fighting Fund will need to go into overdrive to pay these heroes.

I’m making a rare exception tonight. Probably cause there’s no Engerlund teams playing. This is the first CL game I’ve watched this season.

The point of the post was one that you both seemed to have missed.

The original poster called “Shame on you” to another poster for not accepting the complete establishment conspiracy theory over Holiie Greig. His rationale was simply that since Celtic are victims of an establishment conspiracy, it behoves all us Celtic fans to accept the Hollie Geirg establishment conspiracy premise. By highlighting how such “circles” were a central theme in other discredited investigations, I attempted to demonstrate the folly in believing every allegation of conspiracy. Blindly believing a theory because it fits in with pre-existing beliefs actually does people like Hollie Greig a dreal disservice.

As for Cleveland ..that Butler-Sloss later came to a conclusion that excused Higgs and Wyatt could in the minds of the conspiracy theorists amount to just another establishment cover up.

There may well have been genuine child abuse victims in Cleveland, but regardless any subsequent public enquiry, a significant number of children, their parents and their families were stigmatised and damged by wrong conclusions by two doctors. That they “acted properly” is neither here nor there to those adversely affected. If they, as professionals erroneously believed that a particular test alone for sexual abuse was infallible, then they are culpable for the adverse consequences. Having determined that this test was sufficient to warrant removing children from their homes, I am quite sure that their conduct thereafter was proper. The original premise/test that they based the key decision on, was flawed. Many more medical professionals did not share their confidence in the test, but when you are trying to prove yourself right, rather than remain objective, mistakes will occur.

I would only wish that your confidence that they “acted properly” could be discussed at length with the innocent victims of their failed experiment.

I also note that neither of you spoke of Rochdale or Orkney.

As regards the voice of children, then I agree that the voice of powerful adults seem to dominate in the system. Some of these powerful adults are abusers and some are professionals with a duty of care to those children. It was precisely one of those powerful adults who spoke for the children in Rochdale and Orkney. Sadly, she too had her own agenda and lost objectivity in her judgement. I am sure she justified her actions, because she believed that saving one child from abuse was worth the risk. Unfortunately, non-abused children and their families were swept up in the process, and despite insisting that they had never been abused, the children were simply not believed, by the same powerful adults who should have been protecting them.

It is against that and other very complex backgrounds, that absolutes carry no real weight. Some children tell the truth, some children lie. Some children have been abused, some children haven’t. Some children are very suggestible while others aren’t. Some professionals remain focused on their real function, while others don’t.

I too have worked extensively with victims of crime, vulnerable adults, the mentally ill and children at risk. No testimony is disregarded, but when the consequences are potentially devastating, then some form of “checks and balances” are essential.

In all three of the cases in question, checks and balances and real consequence consideration for all involved appeared to be at a premium.

Anyway. Onwards and upwards. I have to be off and out.

    All Tims take care.

Dunfermline chief executive Bill Hodgins insisted finances are now back on track following the deal struck with the Ibrox administrators.

Hodgins said: ”We came to an agreement for a staggered payment schedule with the administrators and the first instalment was received into our bank account on Monday afternoon. We were happy to accept that agreement with the administrators and hopefully it helps to make their life a wee bit easier as well.

”I don’t want to talk about amounts — all I will say is that the other instalment is due in early April and we are happy with that.
