Gang of 10 Arab Spring rebuked by Duff & Phelps

1001

Comments from Duff and Phelps yesterday that they were not in favour of changing the SPL voting system were intriguing.  Kilmarnock chairman, Michael Johnston, was pretty blatant about his agenda when speaking to the BBC on Saturday, suggesting the actions of the Gang of 10 was a “pro-democracy movement” similar to the Arab Spring, saying:

“It might make it easier for the [Rangers] administrators to get whatever they are going to try to achieve whether it is a CVA or new company to be informed and re-joining the SPL and SFA.

“The support of the 10 clubs might be needed at some point.”

Too right the support of the other 10 clubs might be needed at some point if a new company is to join (not re-join, for goodness sake!) the SPL and SFA.

Back in October last year we predicted Rangers would be liquidated, a Newco would be formed and would be voted straight into the SPL, with only Celtic arguing the need to maintain sporting integrity.  Everything we have heard since has reinforced this view.

The debate among the Gang of 10 has matured so far they see no issue in openly offering to support a Newco’s entry into the league in return for money (which we predicted earlier this month), mostly generated from Celtic fans, as it happens.

We await Johnston responding by sticking to his high-minded principles and telling any Newco they will not enjoy Kilmarnock’s support.

Duff and Phelps still have an enormous amount to achieve before they will even be in a position to apply for entry to the SPL on behalf of a Newco but if they do, they will surely offer the Gang of 10 a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. The Gang of 10 will take it. This debate is not about democracy, it’s about directors at clubs like Kilmarnock, who I believe now have debts of over £10m, finding a way to deal with their years of unchecked overspend.

The debate around St Mirren director, Ken McGeoch, would surely outrage sensibilities in any country in the world so I’m pleased his fellow directors have called for his resignation.  In November last year McGeoch invited Rangers company secretary Gary Withey to a meeting at the St Mirren boardroom where he revealed player contract details.

St Mirren are up for sale and could be purchased for what previously amounted loose change at Ibrox; McGeoch met Withey to discuss him purchasing the club from his fellow directors and shareholders.

For a Rangers director, influence like that should be impossible to acquire.

  1. I wonder what part of Neil Lennon’s comment , about hoping for a decent refereeing performance, does Vincent Lunny not understand?

What was also established some time later was that many of the children involved in these scandals were returned to seriously abusive environments.

The world of child protection is dominated by the views of powerful adults, including horrible abusers. The more power you have, the more likely your behaviour will continue unchallenged. When challenged, powerful abusers assume victim status and accuse the (allegedly) abused children of being lying manipulators. Rarely do convicted (sexual) abusers admit their guilt.

The child’s voice is weak and, when heard, is often dismissed as wrong or unimportant. Children rarely lie when they say they have been subject to serious abuse. We, as a society, dont encourage them to speak out and, when they do, we dont want to hear their story.

I meet abusers and their victims every day in my work so I am not just talking from a book.

I usually agree with what Ernie says but he sounds, on this one, as a person more concerned with protecting the poweful rather than the weak!

Having said that, I am unable to give a view about the detail of Hollie’s case as I dont knoe enough about it.

I refer those who are interested to.: The Cleveland Child Abuse cases.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_child_abuse_scandal

Drs. Marietta Higgs and Geoffrey Wyatt were responsible for the Cleveland cases.

Suspending disbelief, avoiding critical thinking, complex covert personal agenda and blind faith in what someone says without any corroborating evidence ruined the lives of hundreds of children. I expect that the court decisions dismissing them were also all cover-ups, and the litigation by those damaged children seeking justice for the abuse by … Higgs and Wyatt is discredited too.

Partial reading of Wikipedia ruins completely your argument:

Following the media outcry, a public inquiry was established, led by Elizabeth Butler-Sloss. The judicial inquiry found that the pediatricians had “acted properly” and the report supported the manner in which they had applied the reflex anal dilatation test. This finding contradicted the decision of the judges involved in the case, who had stated that the test was “controversial”.[1]

Best not to form solid opinions on complex matters via reference to a single, user generated an online resource.

  4. the most telling case about hollie greig was that she was found to be a reliable witness as found by the police or a psychologist. even though she has down’s syndrome, yet all that was ignored, even the case of her uncle’s death was overlooked as an accident, when all proof suggests otherwise.

Spot on, by which time the media had moved on and had no interest in these kids. The complexity and overwhelming sense of responsibility and stress of child protection work gets little mention and the workers little credit.

  10. Celtic really need to get the best legal minds involved in this vendetta by the SFA against our manager and our club.

As already mentioned by several people , where were the SFA when both McCoist and Butcher were saying far worse recently. Also why are referees not made to explain their honest mistakes on the Monday after the game , even now I have never heard collum explain the penalty decision last year at Celtic Park.

Just to finish off with , why did it take approx 30 mins after Cha’s sending off for the officials to send our manager off ?

  11. the glorious balance sheet on

I think it may be time for the Celtic fans to send letters of our own to the SFA compliance officer:-

    Dear Mr Compliance Officer,

I write to you as a paying customer of Scottish football, who attends matches on a weekly basis, to ask that you please explain the recent refereeing performances of Mr Collum, Mr Murray and Mr Brines and confirm the historical context of these performances.

Can you please explain why Mr Collum ignored a tackle from behind on Anthony Stokes despite tackles from behind being illegal and punishable by a red card when committed by a defender in his own penalty box?

I note Mr Collum`s award of two contentious penalties the previous weekend (Saturday 10th March) and would be interested in your views on Mr Collum`s different handling of two consecutive matches in which he officiated.

    http://www.scotsman.com/news/falkirk-1-1-partick-thistle-decisions-decisions-for-willie-collum-1-2166442

Can you please confirm that Mr Ian Brines was the 4th Official on duty when Celtic played Rangers in October 2010 and that it was Mr Brines who, via the microphone system, instructed Mr Collum to award Rangers a penalty when Mr Collum was looking in the opposite direction as Kirk Broadfoot threw himself to the ground?

Can you please explain why Mr Murray deemed Lee Wallace to be denied a clear goalscoring opportunity when he fell under little contact when running alongside Cha to the left of, and some 25 yards away from the Celtic goal?

Can you explain why the referee issued red cards immediately to two Celtic players but took a full minute to do likewise to the Rangers defender Carlos Bocanegra?

Can you please explain why the referee blew for both half time and full time when the ball was in play within 25 yards of, and heading towards the Rangers goal? Also can you advise why the stated minimum of 4 minutes of additional time was not observed before the referee blew for full time?

Can you please advise why the referee took no action in relation to repeated illegal challenges by Lee McCulloch and Steven Whittaker throughout the entire match but booked the Rangers substitute, Salim Kerkar, for his first foul?

Can you please explain why the Celtic manager was sent off and please explain the apparent change in Mr Murray`s approach given that he has previously spoken in defence of Rangers players Diouf and Bougherra who pulled his arms during a match last season. Indeed Mr Murray gave evidence on their behalf at their disciplinary hearing.

Do you believe that it was appropriate for the Fourth Official, Mr Brines, to aggressively point at and make contact with the Celtic manager in full view of 50,000 spectators in a charged atmosphere?

Also, can you please advise me when the various SFA investigations into Rangers FC will report or will I be quicker waiting for the North Pole to melt?

  14. Butcher rant part 2

Terry Butcher has launched an incredible double attack on referee Craig Thomson and the SPL .

The Inverness Caley Thistle manager was speaking after his side lost 1-0 to Rangers to a hotly disputed goal from Steve Davis.

Just over a day after Neil Lennon’s was severely censured for mild criticism of Willie Collum’s eyes-on-the-back-of-his-head performance in Celtic’s 3-1 defeat from Rangers the Caley Thistle boss let rip in an incredible interview on Radio Scotland.

The General Purposes Committee of the SFA will be in for a mammoth sitting to deal with Butcher’s comments despite the former England skipper articulating the views of most supporters in the country about reconstruction of the SPL.

During the explosive interview Butcher spared no one!

    * He accused Thomson of not allowing his players within Vladimir Weiss’s magnetic field

    * Said that he wanted to finish as high up the SPL as possible to stick two fingers up to the authorities

    * Said that his chairman was being bullied into reconstruction by the SPL

    * Claimed relegation cost ICT £1.5m and ripped the heart and soul from the club

    * Claimed that the SPL don’t want his club

    * Claimed that a ten team SPL was a return to the dinosaur era

Asked about the Rangers goal Butcher said: “Adam Rooney was fouled clear as day right on the touchline, right in front of us, right in front of the linesman, fourth official and the referee.

“No-one else around him that could block his view but he doesn’t give the foul and Rangers break away and score.

“I know that we have to defend from that situation but there’s a sense of injustice from the players point of view because the referee has stopped any sort of contact on Weiss, every time one of our players went within his magnetic field a foul was given against us.

“We couldn’t believe it that Adam wasn’t given a foul, it was a clear foul, he didn’t give it, Rangers scored and the injustice was there.

“I was really pleased with the players. We were down at Motherwell on Saturday, travelled back and travelled down again today against our will.

“We do feel a sense of injustice, we do feel that we’re not wanted in the SPL. We’re damned as hell going to be in the SPL and we’re going to finish as high as we can to stick two fingers up at the authorities.”

Good social workers speak out on behalf of the weak and oppressed (children often living in abject poverty).

In the main, people dont want to listen because the children’s stories can be summarised as: ‘we, the majority, dont want to hear about the misearable lives of these children as it makes us uncomfortable and to change their lives for the better might cost us more money (in taxes)’

    so

Let’s blame the undeserving families themselves and, just to make sure, as a back-up, we’ll slag off their useless, bloody social workers.

Definitely any professional or anyone can be wrong in any walk of life. As Merseycelt highlight the permanent discourse is social workers bad families good, the alternative appears unpalatable for society to accept.

In the case of Cleveland, you are wrong. I would advise you read the facts re: Cleveland before reaching a Thugs and Thieves conclusion. At least differentiate between Pediatricians and social workers.

I know social workers who, with scarce resources, save kids and adults everyday from abuse you could not imagine , they get no credit and you will read that in no tabloid.
