Gerrard further adrift from Celtic than Caixinha

257

The response to Scott Brown’s SFA citation from Celtic, Neil Lennon, the support and everyone connected with the club has been so overwhelming, I had to check if the Celtic top the Pope held in St Peter’s Square this week had “Brown, 8” on the back (it didn’t).

Celtic will present a litany of precedents with players celebrating in a similar fashion without censure from referees or the Association.  I would also expect them to ask Judicial Panel members associated with their opponents last Sunday to excuse themselves from proceedings.

At this stage of his career, with contract talks still on going, the captain deserves this support, although let’s not confuse his stoic resilience for Player of the Year qualifications.  That subject is worthy of greater scrutiny.

There is a lot of anger at Steven Gerrard over his antagonistic remarks towards Scott Brown since the weekend, but I think we need to cut the Newco manager some slack.

With the many distractions since Sunday, it may have escaped your notice that Celtic are now further ahead of second placed Newco (13 points) than they were ahead of both Aberdeen (9 points) and Newco (12 points) at the end of last season.

The harsh reality facing Gerrard this week is that he spent significantly more money than Pedro Caixinha but his side is even further adrift from the champions than the team managed by Caixinha and Graeme Murty a year earlier.  Caixinha was given 229 days before being sacked.  Gerrard now knows his team is doing worse than before he took over.  He is not the first to lash out in the face of failure.

This is his first season in management, Caixinha was a manager for 14 years before arriving at Ibrox.  He has a long way to go to catch up with the Portuguese’.  Gerrard’s feelings of frustration are new.  A year from now he will be more accepting of reality, including his own limitations in comparison to Pedro.  Nine-in-a-row will not hurt him as much as this season’s eight.

Mmmmm ………….we won the first eight in a row at Easter Road – I was there!

  3. I think we all knew here was very little chance of us playing sevco before Morelos’ ban was up.

  4. AN DUN

It’ll no matter… what’s Buffalo brains ever done against us ? Aside from physical assault

  5. Looks like they set the fixtures for Morelos to play & Brooney to miss the Bigot Dome clash., but no

matter what way they set up things, no matter how many penalties they award the Huns , they still can’t beat us.

With all the fall out from the Hun game & the Banger with the Banger on Wed night, it will be good to get back to the fitbaw tomorrow. I concur with Ruggyman’s earlier post. Would love to see Tim ‘O & French Eddy partnership up front.

Lenny is getting through the games & we are winning. I understand that he will be rotating the squad, with a view to having his first choices available and well primed for the Cup semi.

However I just feel we could do with a champagne performance & a stylish win to get the Title Celebrations underway, hopefully we can kick off the party tomorrow.

  6. A very good Press Conference by Neil.

Telling the Truth is such a revolutionary act in Scotland.

  7. Brilliant Presser from Neil, and as I ( and maybe others have said) in the past, there were times BR FAILED to address matters in relation to Sevco and The SFA in a way that most Celtic supporters would have wanted, namely CALLING OUT the Cheats etc !

In particular the farce that took place at Ipox on Dec 29th 2018, when Celtic Players were being, stamped on, grabbed, and punched in the Goolies etc etc, and Beaton took no action against any Hun Thug that Day.

All BR said in his Presser after that FARCE, was mainly that ” Rangers were the better team on the day”.

I was ( and still am), very angry with BR since that Day, when he refused to call out the thuggery and Beatons biased, corrupt performance.

IF Neil Lennon had been Celtic Manager THAT Day, I truly believe that NFL would have went to town in condenming both the Blatant Thuggery by the Huns, and Beatons blatant cheating in his post match Presser…NO QUESTION !

Of course we will never know, but I feel very safe in believing that Celtic’s starting X1, Tactics/formation, Mentality would have been oh so different to what BR did that day, and perhaps the result would also have been very different.

I refuse to believe that Neil Lennon would have let the support and the Club down that day, in the manner which BR did…IMHO.

Again, FAB stuff from NFL in his Presser, especially when on reading what Big Yogi says in his piece on CQN Today, about Bob Kelly telling Jock Stein, ” that sometimes things happen, and there is nothing that Celtic can do about it”….or words to that effect, and Big Jock saying ” Aye, that will be right” !

Seems to me that Neil is akin to Big jock in THAT respect at least.

Tend to agree and we all knew that NFL wears his heart on his sleeve.

He’s had a week to calm down and his conference was immaculate and a refreshing change from

Mr Invincible whose pre conferences with the benefit of hindsight were always me, me, me ‘career driven’

at best, and chief dodger of the issues, at worst.

John Kennedy spoke well on Monday, and its time for all Celtic personnel including the CEO to let us hear

his voice, which is meant to be ours, – I think?

NL: “The only rational thing Steven Gerrard has said this week is that they played the best team in the country on Sunday.”

The truth hurts. For them it is death by 1000 cuts

  10. !!bada bing”

Could avoid that awkward moment where Celtic have to cite the er ‘Dean Windass Precedent”

  11. What I liked best about about the presser was there was no ambiguity it what Neil was saying, straight and to the point. Definitely will be a reply from seethin G which will be delivered in his usual cringingly embarrassing way.

Credit where credit is due …. NFL spoke honestly at the press conference, and didn’t shy away ….

    good on him…..

    Cheers mate.

    ……………….

As I posted on the previous Thread, assuming the League is Won by the time we are due to go to Ipox on May 12th, Celtic should REFUSE to play the Fixture, on the Grounds of Health & Safety for our Players and staff, and support. ALL Celtic need to do is present the recent evidence of our Players being assaulted by Batteries, coins, and Pitch Invaders etc.

By all means let THEM have the 3 points, and ANY Fine coming our way would surely be worth paying if need be, in light of the Money that Sevco would lose in revenue, IF we refused to fullfill the Fixture.

THAT refusal by Celtic and the lost Revenue would be a BIGGER kick in the Goolies than that Hun Mob could stand, including if they gubbed us 5-0 IF the game was played !
