Gerrard further adrift from Celtic than Caixinha

257

The response to Scott Brown’s SFA citation from Celtic, Neil Lennon, the support and everyone connected with the club has been so overwhelming, I had to check if the Celtic top the Pope held in St Peter’s Square this week had “Brown, 8” on the back (it didn’t).

Celtic will present a litany of precedents with players celebrating in a similar fashion without censure from referees or the Association.  I would also expect them to ask Judicial Panel members associated with their opponents last Sunday to excuse themselves from proceedings.

At this stage of his career, with contract talks still on going, the captain deserves this support, although let’s not confuse his stoic resilience for Player of the Year qualifications.  That subject is worthy of greater scrutiny.

There is a lot of anger at Steven Gerrard over his antagonistic remarks towards Scott Brown since the weekend, but I think we need to cut the Newco manager some slack.

With the many distractions since Sunday, it may have escaped your notice that Celtic are now further ahead of second placed Newco (13 points) than they were ahead of both Aberdeen (9 points) and Newco (12 points) at the end of last season.

The harsh reality facing Gerrard this week is that he spent significantly more money than Pedro Caixinha but his side is even further adrift from the champions than the team managed by Caixinha and Graeme Murty a year earlier.  Caixinha was given 229 days before being sacked.  Gerrard now knows his team is doing worse than before he took over.  He is not the first to lash out in the face of failure.

This is his first season in management, Caixinha was a manager for 14 years before arriving at Ibrox.  He has a long way to go to catch up with the Portuguese’.  Gerrard’s feelings of frustration are new.  A year from now he will be more accepting of reality, including his own limitations in comparison to Pedro.  Nine-in-a-row will not hurt him as much as this season’s eight.

I don’t think Celtic will ever refuse to play a match and certainly not against the Huns. We are their worst nightmare. We are brave and know we are better than them, Never a backward step

  3. Just an observation….

Gerrard and his staff were Celebrating when they got the equaliser on Sunday, near the Dug Out and most of his staff LEFT their seats to jump around and RAISE THEIR HANDS in the air…immediately in FRONT of the Celtic fans in the Main stand, and a LOT feckin closer to those Celtic fans, than Scott Brown was to their Hun Support, by the letter of this “new” Rule by the SFA, shouldnt Gerrad and his staff also be Cited for ” NOT acting in the best interests of Association Football” ?

Maybe thats another question Celtic FC SHOULD put to the SFA on May 2nd ?

I fully accept that Gerrard and his staff were/are entitled to be in that particular vicinity….AS WAS Scott Brown, when raising his hands in celebration as thats is where he happened to be when the full time whistle went.

    SAINT STIVS,

    Cheers mate.

    ……………….

and I agree with that as well.

I spoke to a Motherwell fan today who discussed his experiences of going to the toilet block with a few hundred fans, scariest experience of his life, vitroil, objects thrown, sectarian abuse, assaults outside, and that was when the huns won 7-1.

    he said never again.

i also think there would be a great way to not fulfil the fixture, and that is, to take the tickets, dont sell them, and dont tell anyone anything, let them prepare for the fixture, paying police and stewards, and then just dont turn up on the day.

  5. Ross County v Dundee Utd about to kick off on BBC SCotland. Mon The Arabs, it’d be great to see them back in the top flight.

As I posted on the previous Thread MANY Celtic fans including My Da, didnt want Celtic to play Racing Club in that “Decider” in 1967, after their previous thuggery in the Two earlier matches.

Remember, PREVENTION is better than Cure ! God forbid, but IF any of our Players or Staff get seriously injured at Ipox, MANY Celtic supporters will be asking WHY we didnt just Refuse to fullfil the Fixture, if the League is already won ?

Wouldnt you like to see the Huns LOSING Big Bucks in revenue..I know I would.

  8. Hi Paul67,

That’s an interesting one re: Steven Gerrard, he seemed to start bright enough and if anything over-performed in Europe. Yet it seems the season has taken it’s toll, he reaĺly is looking every inch the rookie.

The issue is exasperated by the Ibrox PR machine.

My thoughts is regarding football punditry in England is that the guys are assigned “roles”… like the caricature Robbie Savage has to play… For me Gerrard got the consummate professional role… one Club man, ex-England Captain, the voice of reason.

We are seeing a different side to him in Scotland, his real persona seems nearer the guy the despotic coaching and verbiage that the Ibrox PR creates. It presents him as a very unpleasant, out of his depth, not in control, stressed, contrary individual.

Great Press conference from Neil. He was measured, accurate but hit the target… over and over, while not being dragged in to slippery areas. Awesome!!!

    Hail Hail

  9. DD, I know the subject has sporadically been discussed on here but Dundee Utd have always been my least hated other Scottish team after Celtic, EKFC and Scotland ;-). No real reason why but probably stems from their reasonably successful European campaigns in the 80’s.

    Jobo

If Celtic did a Belfast Celtic?

I would be a Dundee United fan I think? Or Ross County if Marcus was still there. ?

  11. DELANEYS DUNKY, might be mistaken, but did Dundee united used to be called Dundee harps or Dundee hibs sory the old bonce is wavering.hh.

Ffs no wonder the refs are corrupt and shite.

  17. DD – too right. I loved nothing better than the tough, rough and tumble against a Hun centre forward.
