Sometimes it seems there is a constant struggle underway for the heart and soul of Celtic. It is incredible that for 125 years a community has managed to retain the conviction to help the less fortunate which drove forward those who formed the club.
Scarcely a day goes by without me receiving a message from someone offering to help those in need. This week it was tables for the Wayside Club Gala Dinner (Saturday 27 April, check it out here), someone send in a box set of the Byrds, to raise money ‘for the homeless’, and a reader parted with a precious top signed by the Seville team, which I’ve to collect in Glasgow.
Much of this goes on below radar but when a call to arms is needed it goes out in impressive clarity; the Wee Oscar campaign slipped into an infrastructure established when Kano took ill a few years back (hope you are doing well, Kano and we hear from you soon). Believe me, some of the work, and many of the discrete donations, would blow you away.
None of this is random. At some point each and every person who has stepped forward did so, knowingly or not, because of the way the Celtic Movement infected them.
A number of Celtic fans, and one former treble winning captain, are helping the Celtic Charity this year with the objective of encouraging each Celtic fan to raise £125. It feels like the right thing to do and if you’ve not brought yourself up to speed with the project yet, do it this weekend (more information here).
There will be formal events throughout the year but if you want to do a sponsored run/walk/cycle/jig, this is your invitation. You are reading this stuff because of your link all the way back to that hall in the Calton; get involved and earn your place in that 125-year-old story.
The next major event is a mass huddle at the top of Ben Nevis, check it out here.
Enjoy your Easter holiday – but not before you get involved………

MON played a crucial role in the history of of our club.

MON a tracksuit manager, maybes on matchdays.
There was a standing joke when he was at Celtic……if MON was seen at training he must have gotten lost >}}}

The full version, which I’m sure I’ve posted before, was of him driving his Volvo estate to his holiday home in the Highlands.

I think that tells you more about the jealousy of those who made the comment than about MON. Making European Finals is obviously not enough for some people.
Not that I’m surprised, Andy Murray won a Grand Slam and still gets dogs abuse from the racist little Englanders for failing to be Tim Henman.
EL
Re the wronging of sevco ( according to Speirs) …
Stretching it IMO to suggest that this referred to the mismanagement of Murray & Whyte
Maybe it was a loose statement he felt necessary to explain away as innocuously as possible
SFTB
An excellent description of Speirs

Why should it make any difference if a jurno works in scotland or not ?
I know scottish jurnos are working to an agenda, well most of them are, but say, mark daly to a degree isn’t, are they all feart ?
Any would be jurno could really make a name for themselfs had they any balls, the truth is out there.
Mon … Thanks for what you did while on our payroll… good luck in your next post
Don’t think nfl wants or needs an older ” director of football” …. neither do I

”the racist little Englanders”
Is the irony intentional?
EL
Thanks again for your post.
Unless i missed something
Stuart Cosgrove is Scottish and working
for a Scottish medium.
Your anti Scottish agenda has now become
tiresome and a bit ridiculous.
HH
Given the players they have Sunderland have massively underachieved this season. MON seems to have lost whatever it was he brought to us, Leicester & Villa.

Could still be apocryphal given his humour. You are right about the vehicle though.

Because there’s a dominant culture in Scotland and it favours the huns.
It’s nothing new.

of course
as there are plenty of ppl from England who support Andy but a reasonable % don’t and don’t purely for reasons of geography, class and social status which is in itself ironic as Andy Murray is about as middle class as you get in Scotland.
pggtips2
I was always under the impression that it came from inside the club, could well be wrong mind you.
Not casting any aspersions on MON, he did good for us, always will be eternally gratefull for all he did for us.
I well remember the day he stood outside the front door when he was appointed manager, tears were streaming doon the face, I knew then he would turn things around.
I don’t agree that SC did not explain his position clearly. To quote from CF’s summary:
Cosgrove: All these clubs are equal. You’re saying they should be invited in. If there is an invitation extended to clubs, it should be to those who have shown themselves on the field of play to be the top clubs.

OK so you’re a nat and I’ve touched a raw nerve.
Tough.
Cosgrove is a commissioning editor for Channel 4. They’re not Scottish based. They’re not going to sack him because he says what he does about the huns.
I appreciate it’s difficult for you but there’s a reason why the MSM in Scotland haven’t dealt with this story.
There’s no way this would happen in England.
Go figure.

happy birthday FGF…

Thanks anyway .

I know fine well about the culture.
Are they all feart ?
The msm in scotland has over the past say decade shot itself in the balls, they have pandered to the hun, is there not an editor out there who is not willing to tell the truth, or are they all in the pocket of the cabal….maybes it’s time for a new publication that has the nous to tell the truth, it would work imo, and it would make a living, scotland is crying out for the truth.
Sorry to hear that MON has gone from the Sunderland job – kind of feel that it has all just petered out from him after the highs of Seville 10 years ago.
Don’t think he ever found a club that provided him with the passion and intrigue that we did – I wish him well.
FGF – happy birthday, auld yin! :-)
Actually hope the Makims get relegated now. What a panic decision that was.

I listened to the show and feel that his point (about sporting integrity) did not come across clearly enough. It was lost in the heat of the debate. He could have been more pointed and explicit. Easy for me to say mind you – I wasn’t taking part in the discussion!

Agree, hope they go down, same stupid decision made last season by wolves and look where they are now. O’Neil, as with McCarthy last season, were probably the best bet the clubs had to get them out of their predicament.
MON
Absolute Celtic legend
Remember where we were just before he arrived?
Remember where he took us?
His time as a manager might have passed but he was the best since Mr Stein
He also helped destroy the Huns – remember the 6-2 game?
Remember Tore Andre Flo?
Yes perhaps he should have won more but look what he was up against?
The biggest sporting scandal in the history of the game anywhere in the world – or would have been – except this is Scotland!
MON gave us some of our best times EVER!
Good luck in the future Martin
HH
one thing is inexorable
however many teams he’s been in who’ve been relegated
Steven Fletcher’s market value still goes on the increase
Seems to me that ROI managers job would be tailor made for MON – plays to his strengths.
Re Spiers wants to appear a liberal and decry some of the sectarian aspects of the Huns but fails to investigate the deeper issues involving Sevco now and the previous cheating.
MON, not for me, let Lenny get on with the great job he is doing. MON had his day left us with great memories and debts, same as the next EPL clubs he had. He is a bank manager and not a tracksuit manager.

Most of them probably think that sooner or later they’re looking at redundancy.
That’s not an environment that’s conducive to going against the grain.
A brilliant picture on TCN on twitter of Man City players holding a banner for Wee Oscar. Superb.

K33 – MON had Sunderland punching well above their weight last season, but they’ve really struggled this year. I think Martin deserved his chance at one of the big EPL clubs, one which would have bankrolled his ambitions.
Liverpool would have been the perfect match for him.
Sadly, I think his future now will be as a media pundit. He’ll always be a Celtic legend though.

True he was shouted down at times, but I think he did the right thing by making the point eloquently, goading Speirs into raising the decibels and making him seem desperate.
IMHO of course :-)
Listening to the shortbread show just now,..interesting stuff.
