Good Friday is just another Friday for you

1828

Sometimes it seems there is a constant struggle underway for the heart and soul of Celtic.  It is incredible that for 125 years a community has managed to retain the conviction to help the less fortunate which drove forward those who formed the club.

Scarcely a day goes by without me receiving a message from someone offering to help those in need.  This week it was tables for the Wayside Club Gala Dinner (Saturday 27 April, check it out here), someone send in a box set of the Byrds, to raise money ‘for the homeless’, and a reader parted with a precious top signed by the Seville team, which I’ve to collect in Glasgow.

Much of this goes on below radar but when a call to arms is needed it goes out in impressive clarity; the Wee Oscar campaign slipped into an infrastructure established when Kano took ill a few years back (hope you are doing well, Kano and we hear from you soon).  Believe me, some of the work, and many of the discrete donations, would blow you away.

None of this is random.  At some point each and every person who has stepped forward did so, knowingly or not, because of the way the Celtic Movement infected them.

A number of Celtic fans, and one former treble winning captain, are helping the Celtic Charity this year with the objective of encouraging each Celtic fan to raise £125.  It feels like the right thing to do and if you’ve not brought yourself up to speed with the project yet, do it this weekend (more information here).

There will be formal events throughout the year but if you want to do a sponsored run/walk/cycle/jig, this is your invitation.  You are reading this stuff because of your link all the way back to that hall in the Calton; get involved and earn your place in that 125-year-old story.

The next major event is a mass huddle at the top of Ben Nevis, check it out here.

Enjoy your Easter holiday – but not before you get involved………

CRC – Mrs TTTT was showing me some great pics from Twitter of Oscar and Izzy at the ice hockey in Belfast. Think they had an absolute ball.

SFTB – I agree with a lot you say there and it’s no coincidence that WGS suffered most at the hands of those who hankered for MON’s return. I love them both for what they did for our club, but Martin would never have tolerated the fiscal challenges set by BQ & PL.

  5. Funniest drunk on a bus.

My boy just described how a very drunk

man from Cambuslang took offence to everyone

    on the bus.

He proceeds to take a swing at the

    driver, misses, loses his balance

and falls back out the open door onto the street.

    Just another Saturday night.

  6. MON did not leave Celtic and go directly to any club. Somehow this fact is being overlooked in the guesses and assumptions being made about his departure.

How long was he out of the game? 14 months?

  7. The name is Gavin Masterson,

    Already the name sounds suspicious,

Master, Son, ffs could it get much more duplicitous.

Speirs, he is an agent, not quite Orange but from the Klan,

Deep down he hates the Great Architect of Celtics revival, Fergus McCann.

Regarding your posts earlier today, I can’t help but assume they were directed at me – as I was pretty astounded to find I was the only one being “vociferous” in their defence (although it would be appreciated if you could name those whom you’re aggrieved at – why would you not address directly the poster who annoyed you so much?? Is this not a good place for debate on the things that matter to us?? ).

Either way, I didn’t read any “strong political views” in support of the Green Brigade, nor did I think my own views were as such. My argument was in defence of a group of Celtic Supporters, clearly suffering undue harassment, and disappointingly being blamed for it by some posters on CQN, with whom I engaged in debate. I was never abusive to them, nor was anyone else. However, those that were attacking the GB did seem to take quick offence as soon as they were questioned in my opinion.

Assuming I’m on the right track here, there’s the issue of what you call “hypocrisy” to deal with.

When an element of the Celtic Support is under attack anywhere, let alone CQN, I’d like to think we would all put in our tuppeny’s worth, and even discuss it passionately. But it seems this isn’t acceptable to you now if one is too “vociferous”.

I put it to you, that you are the hypocrite. That you fail to understand why, might show your ignorance.

Was it your intention to put off future, new CQN posters from voicing their support of the GB unless they can be on standby to join a meeting whenever you or someone else calls it, to “prove their worth”?

To be blunt, I’m depressed and saddened after reading your posts today. We should be uniting behind the GB, yet you couldn’t resist the chance to express a personal annoyance to dictate the day. Re-think the word hypocrite.

  10. Afraid it’s a very definite NO to the Blessed Martin returning to Celtic.

Always loved the man. Always will.

Martin does not need the job. He is a made man.

NFL does not need a baby-sitter. He is very capable of making his own decisions.

Any advice that Neil would ever want from Martin is already available to him without any pressure or commitment.

Both these men are capable, stubborn individuals who would eventually come into conflict if, .. & when, they would inevitably see things differently from one another.

Neil is doing a great job.

Let him get on with it.

Sorry to hear that MON has gone from the Sunderland job – kind of feel that it has all just petered out from him after the highs of Seville 10 years ago.

Don’t think he ever found a club that provided him with the passion and intrigue that we did – I wish him well.

  14. Gordon 64,

Read your bit about the bus driver.

Whilst it is amusing, I am sure you agree , it is sad that some guy, doing his job, presumably trying to pay the bills like the rest of us , has to put up with that sort of nonsense.

  15. Richie

Correct it was 14 months after he left us that he joined Villa.

But add to that he had discussed a contract to leave us in 2003 to go to Leeds and you will see that MON wanted an EPL club.

OK, if Celtic were that EPL club, he might have stayed longer.

Anyways, I’m off to bed now before I disillusion any more lovesick MON fans.

  19. Mon came to us when we needed him.

He gave us his passion, we gave him our money.

    Both were finite.

He reached his pinnacle in Seville, we had to balance the books.

It was a natural bresk, when his fiscally driven style, conflicted with our need to become fiscally prudent.

We all gained from the experience.

I’m afraid, Martin’s style of management is becoming obselete and he has reached his shelf life in club football.

International management is his level now, I think.

  20. Martin O’Neill????mmm

Good riddance, about time he was exposed!

And, before any cnut says different…

Why did the shit about him leaving, and his missus just, SUDDENLY, appear on the morning of the league decider?

    Go forth and multiply Martin,

    You won’t be missed.

CRC – we’re away on holiday when the Kano Foundation end of season bash is on. Think it’s the same night as the Wayward Club function P67 is advertising.

    Both very deserving causes.

Carolyn posted on FB that Martin isn’t too good due to low blood pressure and is going into hospital for a few days. He’s probably feeling quite low about not being able to attend his dad’s funeral as well.

I’m sure Martin & Carolyn would love to hear from all their friends, it would certainly lift their spirits.

  24. MON was another in a long list of Tims that came along at just the right time. One might call it Divine Intervention…or Karma.

Either way, MON has my thanks not only for a great time in football, but also for his great words of wisdom.

I don’t know – did he deal with the MSM satisfactorily? It seems the list of does and donts for Celtic Managers is growing by the year. Is it fair to say, it doesnae matter what you do Neil, even after winning the CL, you’ll still be subject to criticism on CQN? You should have lifted that SPL trophy with your left hand last year ya daft bollocks !

Cannot argue with you mate ,we know the huns done the dirty ,but MON (IMO)

was going through the motions in latter part of his time with Celts.

  26. Final comment on the Sportsound revelations.

If it emerges that Longmuir is working to Green’s agenda, then it looks like an action replay of Murray’s interference of placing Calderwood at D unfermline, with the promise of coming ” home”.
