Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

Watching the mandela film, when he was released from prison and split up with his wife winnie the towns were complete anarchy.. Showed scenes of coloured guys attacking a fellow coloured village and killing people.

What i dont understand is what happened for this to occur ?

I understand that like in most war’s a time comes when people on the same side want peace and others want to keep fighting but this just seemded like senseless random killings.

Yes I would expect that to be so a la the Irish Republic model which did them no harm jobs wise.

Also there would be a shift in the socio politics to a more left leaning government as Scotland still is more working class than conservative

  7. Just read back, Eddiekirkmichael your post late last night was very moving and heartfelt. I have lost much of my family brothers sisters etc. but to lose a child must be unbearable. My feelings this weekend are a roller coaster. Wee Oscar, U20s, hootenanny, Sammi greeting, then carrying young Jay round the park, all this mixed with getting the trophy. Don’t know if i am up or down. So your post last night put my life into perspective. Also was a pleasure to make your acquaintance last Saturday. Hail Hail Sir. Frantic07

  8. My friends in Celtic,

Discounting the merits of right / wrong or relevancy of the UK honours system.

We are all aware that Robert Kelly got a knighthood and Jock Stein eventually got a CBE.

Bob Kelly was not everybody’s “cup of tea “but despite his flaws nobody can doubt his devotion to Celtic. ( Reminds me of an old fashioned frequent poster up until a few weeks ago )

Allegedly his reluctance to offer Jock Stein the managers position was indeed a religious issue.

Genuine question :- Does anybody know what happened to a petition or similar by MP’s Davie Marshall and Jim Devine to have Jock Stein awarded a posthumous knighthood. ? Probably about 5 years ago.

There is no doubt this “honour” should have been his and the clubs especially after the manager of the 2nd British team to lift the European cup got one immediately.

    HH, always in Celtic.

PS : Yes I am aware what happened to the discredited Jim Devine.

  14. BRTH,

You were giving information recently about the future of TV and how to watch its contents, specifically football. I am seriously thinking of changing from SKY to BT for my phone and broadband, partly because of its football output, which I will be able to enjoy. I read, however, that experts expect BT to start charging for their sports channels, probably from the season after next. Any advice will be gratefully received.

  15. Politics Alert, some facts;

In an Independent Scotland HM the Queen will still be our Head of State and form an intrinsic part of our Constitutional Platform, we will continue to pay for her, changing the “Succession Rules” to remove religious discrimination will be done through the Commonwealth (we’ll be members). SNP Government will vote in favour of keeping the Queen even although other Parties may want to get rid of Her. We will pay HMQ compensation for Crown Lands that we take and best of all “We will keep the Honours System”.

Now does that last one not tell what kind of Scotland it will be?

Catholics in Scotland have progressed over the years in Scottish Society but there’s still a long way to go and until “reasonable” people have their hands on the “Levers” of Power” Mayanman says Not in this Generation.

We are going to win the league next year whatever happens.

    Our priority is Europe.

The only player on the books who can make a significant difference in Europe is Samaras.

If he leaves we have to replace him with similar.

A suitable replacement will cost at least as much, and might not work out.

Or we could downsize, take our chance in Europe and hope that in a season or two we can get back to the good old days of a guaranteed income based on hatred and sectarianism.

I may be reading the runes wrongly, but the signs suggest that we’re going for the latter approach.

Sorry but I don’t know what the BT policy is on BT sports.

At the moment it is a perk of having BT Broadband (or at least that is the way it is badged) but I don’t know when they are going to start charging or how much.

I suspect that they will though in due course.

Small chunks, as Geordie Munro said. The new Scotland progressive people want to see won’t happen as soon as there’s a Yes vote. It’ll be done over decades but hopefully we’ll get there eventually. If the Yes campaign was built on too many changes they wouldn’t get enough votes to get over the line.

So we might keep the pound for a while, and the monarchy – but over time those things will go. Gradual change, rather than a series of shocks for the more timid among us, is probably the best way to do it just now. :)

I don’t think BT will charge what Sky do. Sky is an established company in sports broadcasting and BT are trying to break into that market. I think BT have exposed that Sky are overcharging the punters for the football coverage.

I would hope though that BT can get sole rights for the SPFL football as having two subscriptions for a league in Scotland is ridiculous. Surely they can bid for it outright and get all the people who want to view Scottish football on board and leave Sky to what is important to them. The Greatest most exciting league in the world!

  28. Whatever you think of Gary Locke and for what it’s worth he didn’t do that bad a job under the circumstances in my opinion. The way he left was shameful, no opportunity to say goodbye to his players.

St Mirren must expect miracles if they think Danny Lennon did a “bad” job. A trophy and Premier League survival every year is not bad for a provincial club.

Our Economy is too intertwined with the rest of the UK, we will always be tied to the BoE unless we join the Euro and once again Scotland will say No. We are progressing but i believe we will achieve our common goal quicker and fairer the way we are but with further devolved powers.
