Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

Tommy Gemmell

We are going to have the one and only Tommy Gemmell on the blog on Friday afternoon between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be available to take your questions and talk about life, football and anything else you care to bring up.  Tune in.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

I’ve yet to hear a bad word about Kris , and indeed his good lady. They seem to have taken Celtic fc, Celtic fans and Celtic ethics to their hearts.

I totally appreciate your sentiments about KC and LH

    But

I have another opinion about getting Celtic

I think Celtic are a very lucky football club to have the calibre of human beings who support them

Guys like KC … As well as the thousands of good hearted kind and compassionate people / fans are what they are ,,,, not because they are Celtic fans .

Having said that … I’m happy they are all part of the Celtic family

    Just my opinion

  14. not quite a shameless repost,on the anniversary indulge me with this we tale that I posted on ‘don’t shrink’ a couple of weeks ago……….hi tony, charliebhoy from cqn here I read about your journey to Glasgow with great pleasure, I think that stories like yours, are very inspirational and after recovering from a near death experience, I often wonder why soldiers etc never tell their brave tales, it boosts the moral of anyone to hear how someone can fight the good fight. my battle started on may the 13th 1981 as a motorcyclis, I collided with a ford capri, resulting in among other things a triple skull fracture, I was only 20 then but since then ive got married had four kids and now a wee grandson charlie too, the date I mentioned is also the same date that pope jp2 got shot and he came to Glasgow bellahouston only a year later, to say mass and as the popemobile drove past, our eyes met and I thought : I bet he never asked “hows charliebhoy”? as soon as he regained consciousness ..you may be aware he was canonised at the weekend there.so the guy telling you this tale has actually looked into the soul of a saint, I will pray to him tonight for you and all the others affected with MND keep the faith tony and in a metaphorical sense, you know you’ll never walk alone

………………I attended the hootenanny but unfortunately the batteries on my hearing aids packed in on the train going through so in my wisdom I decided just to people watch, and you lot having a laugh was truly a sight to behold I did speak outside with hebcelt (where I could hear) but the noise inside just meant the odd nod and occasional hiya ……but I did enjoy my day specially getting to bar 67 and £2.50 a pint thanks lhads and lhassies h h

just a wee reminder of what happened on this day 33 years ago……

What it means above all else is never again shall we have a Conservative Government inflicting all kinds of social damage on us.

In the event of a YES vote the SNP may get one more term then it will be a loose coalition most of the time.

Salmond is there to serve as a catalyst for change…….much like Churchill had to step up to the plate in WW2 while Labour and the Liberals dithered.

Just an opinion………I’m voting YES. I’ll take my chances at the barricades with the OO ….LOL

  22. I find it increasingly bizarre that some people will vote yes on the referendum simply because some numpties in the OO will vote no.

Here’s the thing. This country, Scotland, has nurtured the OO and allowed their nonsense and criminalised Catholics.

And yet because they say no you say yes?

    Utterly utterly bizarre.

Vote with your own conscience but at least be coherent.

  23. ghuys someone posted on here the other week about one-way car hire to manchester, think company was based on broomielaw, can anyone give me a name of company and if possible if you can get same sort of deal to newcastle.thanks in advance.

You have the floor, so please answer your own questions.

You appear to be suggesting that a post Yes vote Scotland will pay for all the retained “free” services by opting out of any Trident contribution, so if you have facts then just let me know where I can find them and I will go and have a look.

Rhetorical questions implying you have the answers really do need to be challenged.

If, however, this is just your opinion, then…that’s another thing altogether.

As for the intelligence of posters or their snob co-efficient then I would NEVER judge anyone by words in a contemporaneous blog. Alleged intelligence is over-rated anyway :o)

  25. So….this is for you Mark Hateley.

Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has hailed the inclusion of Celtic’s Fraser Forster in the England World Cup squad.

“He has proved over the past two seasons in Europe he can perform at the highest level” – Gianluigi Buffon

Buffon is a big admirer of the 26-year-old shot-stopper since his Juventus side came up against the Hoops in the Champions League last year.

World Cup winner Buffon’s Italy actually face the English in their opening Group D game next month.

“Forster deserves it,” he commented in the Daily Record. “You can talk about him not being in a top league but the amount of clean sheets he has kept has been incredible.

“And he has proved over the past two seasons in Europe he can perform at the highest level.”

Where are the further devolved powers going to come from though? They won’t be on the ballot paper and none of the major parties support meaningful change there.

I don’t see any positive change coming via Westminster tbh. The major parties all still follow Thatcher’s lead and the unions are hopeless. They’re all corrupted by the City and/or scared of the right-wing media.

Ireland will be United in the coming years and the Ulster Scots will return to from where they came. Everything is still in place as they left it, still with their hands on the “Levers of Power”

Anybody else notice the big increase in the numbers of “Ulster Scots” banners?
