Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

Tommy Gemmell

We are going to have the one and only Tommy Gemmell on the blog on Friday afternoon between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be available to take your questions and talk about life, football and anything else you care to bring up.  Tune in.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

GG / Masty, that is a great shout. Dont know much about him but I found out recently that he was great friends with my dad’s older brother. He also helped carry the coffin at my uncles funeral. My uncle was a catholic and a life long tim.

I think he’s got or used to have a pub in bucksburn?

Anyway, it would be good to hear about past encounters from the perspective of our old adversary.

  3. Billy bhoy I have just read back and found your post comparing those who would vote no to independence with the BNP.

You are utterly discredited and the mask of SNP nationalism has slipped.

    You are an utter disgrace.

  4. Glad to be of service 67 heaven. As I said before each must vote to their own conscience. But if billy bhoy is in any way representative of the bullying Nats and how Scotland will feel after independence then god help us all.

On the take up of Sevco tickets.

The chap who replaced the £1.5 million hedge fund loan was promised that the first £1.5 m of income would be used to repay him before any other party.

He was also to receive £75k interest on his loan.

As of last Friday he had not received a penny and the club are not answering his correspondence.

Purely amateur economics and just a suggestion but simplicity may be the key to solving the worlds imbalanced wealth structure

How about 10% tax across the board on incomes onshore and off and all other current taxables with 1% per cent of the sum collected put into a fund to be used to enrich the lives of those less fortunate across the globe

In the UK and most developed countries I expect any shortfall in workers PAYE contributions will easily be overcome by similar tax contributions from those with the luxury of choice on all their incomes off and onshore

  24. Re Tommy Gemmell – you may recall he wrote a blog post for us back in February and asked for your questions. Tommy took the time to answer every question and we have added these at the end of his new book All the Best, which arrives in Glasgow on Friday. Tommy is going to spend Friday and his weekend signing the books for us and he’s on the blog from 1-4pm.

SFTBs has had an exclusive sneak preview of All the Best and rates it very highly. Paul will post SFTBs review of All the Best by Tommy Gemmell on Sunday.

Willie Wallace is packing his suitcase at the moment and will be in Glasgow later this week – he has promised to let BRTH buy us a drink and to post on here. Apparently it is his round!

We had arranged for Billy McNeill to be on CQN last Friday as a wee surprise but the terrible news about Wee Oscar passing away meant that Caesar posted his condolences and we agreed that he’d come back on another day soon.

Big Yogi now considers himself to be a CQNer and you can expect to see him at future CQN events – probably sitting at Doc’s table! He’ll be posting before they head to Lisbon and if we can allow a swear box for the day we might even get Bertie on!

The only way I am allowed to invite anyone else to the CQN xxx Lions Night in Greenock at the CSC on Friday 6th June is if they were a Celtic player in May 1967. The event has sold out, squeezed more in, cancelled the ladies bingo the lot – and still has a big waiting list.

Willie is heading back to Australia the next day and is inviting some of his old Celtic pals along – he says one or two of us might recognise a few of these guys.

You can order All the Best at http://www.CQNBookstore.com and if you email your personal message Tommy will add this for you. The email david@cqnmagazine.com

Also don’t forget to read the new edition of CQN Magazine which features loads of great content on the Lions. They are special and it is a delight to have them exclusively on CQN!

Statements like yes /no f**nies do not do the blog any credit.

It is each individuals prerogative to vote or not. We are lucky we can say that. But nobody should forget the right to vote has cost and indeed still is costing many lives.

To this day in the UK females who literally had to die to get the vote are still fighting for equality. Equality means more than equalling the gender gap on tattoos.

This referendum in September will determine futures and as this is a football blog it is important to comment on the fact that it will map Celtic’s future strategy.
