Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

Tommy Gemmell

We are going to have the one and only Tommy Gemmell on the blog on Friday afternoon between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be available to take your questions and talk about life, football and anything else you care to bring up.  Tune in.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

The treatment of Gary Locke has been deplorable.

I have a soft spot for the Hibs but I’m starting to hope they go down to make life difficult for Sevco and their wee cousins.

Hope if Hibs go down Celtic loan them some of our under 20’s:-))

Whatever you think of Gary Locke and for what it’s worth he didn’t do that bad a job under the circumstances in my opinion. The way he left was shameful, no opportunity to say goodbye to his players.

St Mirren must expect miracles if they think Danny Lennon did a “bad” job. A trophy and Premier League survival every year is not bad for a provincial club.

My buddy neighbour says that Tommy Craig only getting the gig because he is on half what Danny Lennon was on. He has heard that all the tesco money is nearly done at st Mirren , get your dough on going down next year.

I think Sammy was well worth the 20k plus bonuses that sandman spoke about.

You really are a nasty little man who hates anything Scottish and doesn’t have the balls to declare who you are.

You called me a liar before but it is you who is the liar. You stated you didn’t have a vote and you recently contradicted yourself. To lie successfully you must have a decent memory, yours has obviously gone. And if you had the bottle to declare yourself you would soon find out that your other insult, ‘ Coward, ‘ was definitely not true.

Continue with your nasty remarks and ignoring just about every question asked of you as you sit at your googlebox show how clever you are. You have my sympathy Ernie.

None of this is free, absolutely none of it.

It is just paid for other than at the point of delivery.

I do not think there are many Scots people who would really prefer to have less say in their own future, or be governed by a remote out of touch chamber…(London or Edinburgh)..but…

When you only deal in abstracts, rhetoric and campaign sound bites to force your own agenda ( of either hue) then the electorate are being treated as lemmings. It is an important decision and therefore should be considered fully and fairly. Nothing about this campaigning strikes me as remotely comprehensive or informed – just my opinion.

In the land where a Yes vote will take Scotland, the economic realities will bite. Free school, university, prescriptions, elderly care, elderly travel, childcare… will all have to be funded by taxing our industries or our working adults. An independent Scotland has to attract industries or businesses, and a high tax rate will not achieve that. Retaining our young adult workers will also prove a challenge if our income tax rates are high in comparison to England or elsewhere. Promising to retain all the vote catching services without accounting for how that will be funded or what will be given up to make way for them is at the very least disingenuous – this goes for all politicians.

Personally, I have seen nothing emanating from Edinburgh that would inspire any confidence that the post Yes vote Scotland will be any better off than it is now.

However, such a vote would mean that we could at last take full and honest responsibility for the mess our country gets in, instead of blaming on a big boy who did it and ran away.

Nothing for the disadvantaged will change for the better under a YES or a NO vote.

Just opinions of course, so knock yourselves out if you want.

  24. Turkeybhoy, I suspect that you may be misplacing your worries. Don’t forget that the Orange Order is largely a Unionist order – I don’t see many of them voting to give away their Union Jacks and homage to the Queen, etc. I think that they see themselves as safer in a largely Protestant UK.

Of course, this will mean little to most No or Yes voters, quite rightly.
