Great times for Celtic

822

It’s always encouraging to read positive comment on your club, so the positivity from a sports brand consultant at Brand Finance was welcome.  Apparently we are something of a commercial miracle, reaching parts no one else from a small country can come close to.

It’s also delightful hearing about glamour preseason friendlies (not quite announced yet, but coming).  We are a club with more than just history, we have a team the best in the world want to play.  We also have a future.

We have the league championship trophy in the boardroom, Champions League qualifiers to look forward to, and the sun is shining on Glasgow!

These are great times for Celtic.

I agree with your view on the Greens, hurts me to say anything bad about greens.Patrick Harvie blamed Catholic schools for creating homophobia a few years ago, then retracted, obviously a change of heart.Labour in England have made anti catholic statements for years(Mary honeybell,Gordon should think twice about having catholic’s in the cabinet) who now??

Any mainstream party would be daft to include opposition to denominational schools in a manifesto, but if you want to know how a lot of Labour people feel, take a look at the Educational Institute of Scotland.

On a different note, did anyone catch Jazz Record Requests on Radio 3? There was a rendition of The Wearing of the Green. I hope wee Pat Nevin was watching The Voice.

    On a more serious note.

I think Italy should win the ESC.

Aiden showed his class today and answered Keane, Townsend et al, who continue to question his value to the team.

Too many pundits wanting to discard him for young Mc.Clean.

    No pressure there then, James.

I repeat. The only political party who have threatened to abolish Catholic schools in Scotland are the Greens, who are Salmond’s allies.

So Salmond was protecting Catholic schools from a non existent threat, and the Church hierarchy fell for it.

Fair comment, Ernie. Let me add two words …

Any mainstream party would be daft to include opposition to denominational schools in a manifesto … for now.

I don’t work in education, but I know that the Catholic bishops of Scotland have been very worried about the drip, drip, drip tactics of mainstream media, the EIS and some politicians with regard to this.

If their intention was to inspire indifference and, God preserve us, contempt in some Catholic parents for the schools our forebears fought for (literally, in many cases) they have been very clever, for this is the true threat. But God works in strange ways, and I know a growing number of non-Catholic parents are choosing Catholic schools for their children. Long may it continue.

The signs of contempt are everywhere: so many references to “segregated” schools, “divisive” schooling, schools “apartheid” (God help us), the apoplexy over Catholic head teachers seeking to keep a strong sense of identity and community among their own members of staff in shared campus arrangements (the “Catholic toilets” garbage) and so on.

    Well we laughed…..

  24. PS – Catholic schools would last about 2 minutes in an independent Scotland. The economic pressures to trim state spending, and the cultural factors we have seen emerge over the last few years mean they would be in the firing line early on…

    …despite what Salmond promises now…

  25. Gordon 64

In my opinion, I send my children to a denominational school because of the faith ethos provided there. They are taught there about all other religions and are taught to be tolerant of them. They can attend mass 3 times a week before classes start. There is a fair percentage of the pupils are muslim and at a meeting involving the local council and representatives from different faiths , the representative for the muslim contingency explained that they would always choose a faith school before a non denominational because it was closer to their teaching. It seems to me that people who did attend denominational schools are more tolerant towards those who did not than vice versa. If that’s the case is it because no RE is taught in non denominational schools.
