Greatest fans in the world? You better believe it

1196

Some weeks ago I received a painting of Neil Lennon in the post from US based artist, Joseph Gormley.  We put it onto eBay this week to get our launch our 2012 charity fundraising efforts.  As well as a couple of local charities we will again donate to the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.  After so many Celtic fans have been touched by three kids, Oscar, Niamh and Vanessa, this year we added The Neuroblastoma Alliance who do research work into the childhood cancer.

The auction raised an incredible £5000.  When I contacted the winning bidder and discussed some of the stories behind the beneficiaries I had to insist he took the painting, he was so affected he wanted to return it for another auction to raise more money.  Joseph Gormley was so inspired by the success of the auction he has already offered to paint other subjects for us and I have a jersey signed by the Seville team in the pipeline.

So, if you were one of those who bid an incredible amount but were pipped at the post (and there were a few in this category), there will be another chance soon.

Running this blog gives me the privilege of witnessing so many great works, most of which come with the request of anonymity.  It’s a real honour.

Well done and thank you.

“I’d like to think there was a very strong possibility that next Sundays game is doubtful too.”

Aye. I’m a bit torn about it. I’d like the game to go ahead before they are liquidated, but then again – I don’t actually enjoy those matches because of the bile we are subjected to from knuckle-dragging Huns.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I had to stop the motorbike there. I nearly run over some numpty dressed as a chicken.

  3. Paddy – I really like Padraig (my middle name is Patrick). Problem is we live in Spain and, all being well, this is where the Boy will grow up. The Spanish would have no idea how to read or pronounce that name and I don’t want the kid to have problems with that type of scenario. Cheers.

  5. Hamiltontim @ 11:49,

We shouldn’t and realistically couldn’t quit immediately. The two years notice gives us all the more reason to resign at the end of the Season.

It gives us that time to weigh up the options while making a stand here and now.

The huns lie and cheat everyone in Scottish and European football for decades.

They have cheated the public by deliberately not paying their taxes for years and years.

    They have now been caught.

So Celtic should pack it in.

    Disney make sense te me!

I hope Celtic and Celtic people are working behind the scenes to make sure their punishment fits their crimes.

I suspect we won’t have to.

My hunch is the newco huns will start off in the first division.

In many ways that would be better for them than the SPL.

  10. Mornin’ all,

Any team news yet. Is Lukas getting a start? (he should IMO) is Tommy Rogne fit? Will Izzy make a return and allow Chas to partner Tommy in defense? Will Paddy McC get a game, will young McGeogh start, will Vic start in midfield, will we play Sammy on the left and will Lenny inisit on Wilson at CB?

The way I look at it is Celtic have played within the rules. Celtic did not do anything wrong. And Celtic have a proud history – with no shame whatsoever.

Therefore, I don’t see where Celtic should punish themselves by dropping to the lowest league in Scotland.

Such a move would delight many people in Scotland … all of them enemies of our club. And that is another reason not to do it.

  12. I wonder if all the teams in Europe whom failed to progress at a massive financial loss .. Are aware of the double contracts situation?

    Surely they can sue UEFA

And in turn UEFA counter sue SFA

After all the head of our organisation was secretary of the orcs when this was all going on !

    Agree .

  14. Good morning all,

Well – Scottish football – all of it stands on the edge of the abyss at the moment. Tomorrow will be a momentous day – the decisions made will tell us a great deal of what is actually going on and what the consequences will be.

If the Miller bid is accepted then its the end for Scottish Football. Because if it is accepted it means that the SPL and by default the SFA have accepted a newco Rangers with no or little punishment.

Now this will be ahead of any vote by the SPL – which means one of two things. Either the discussions with Chairmen across each club have already taken place and agreed or in fact there is no democracy in the SPL.

Assuming its the former we must ask ourselves what Celtic have been doing here. I posted earlier this week that the silence from our Board is troublesome. They certainly should have spoken out when the so called punishments for aa newco were proposed by the SPL. But they didnt.

So if Miller wins the bid and we as usual here nothing from Celtic we can assume that Celtic are party to it. That being the case then, in a bizzare twist, Celtic will be in more trouble than Rangers – because this will absolutely split the support and leave the club riven. The last vestiages of trust will have gone between the board and ourselves and god help us.

And how will supporters of other clubs react?

As I say the end of Scottish Football – because we may as well pack up and go home.

If Millers bid is not successful then we have the prospect of Blue Knights coming in – it now seems as though Ticketus may have security from Whyte on their investment which I would assume means Ticketus owning the stadium etc as part of their security. This will drag things on for a while while they try and agree a CVA – but whats clear is that creditors will get next to nothing – HRMC are the most important players here – what will they do?

As some others have pointed out Duff and Duffers statement on players and getting them their money back should be a red rag to a bull. Its also clear that Duff etc are sailing very very close to the wind here. Are they really acting in the best interests of creditors? Clearly no? There will be carnage in the courts from some creditors – carnage. I find unplausable that they will agree a CVA – therefore Blue Knights will lead Rangers into liquidation. And the Miller type scenario above kicks in.

Its also alarming that we are being told that the SPL and SFA find the Miller approach “intriguing” – I am intrigued right enough – intrigued that the SPL and SFA feel comfortable conspiring to shaft the creditors of Rangers.

But coming back to my central point – Celtic’s silence is extremely disturbing. I doubt the morality of our own Board in this never mind other clubs. They should have been making their position publicly known to ensure we influence the correct outcome. Silence for me says they are willing to do whatever it takes to allow Rangers to survive. They will be hoping that we will just accept it like the good old cash cow they see us as. In doing so they risk Celtic as a club. Who said the Board dont take risks eh!

As I said tomorrow is a massive day in the history of Scottish Football.

  16. Philbhoy @ 12:01,

This is based on the supposition that R@ngers are allowed to play in the SPL without proper sanctions &/or addressing their financial cluster.

We resign stating the SPL is not fit for purpose and apply to the English Leagues citing the copious reasons why we are an Exceptional case getting Uefa and FIFA on board.

Meantime we push for true and far reaching changes to the Scottish Authuorities that ensures if we stay in Scotland it will be on a level playing field.

Yes ——— big moral decision time .

Anything less than a Newco which has to scrape and beg to be allowed to start at the very bottom will be the end of my involvement in Scottish football. I am aware that such a decision will also mean the end of my 55 year long interest re Celtic and Scottish football.
