Greatest fans in the world? You better believe it

1196

Some weeks ago I received a painting of Neil Lennon in the post from US based artist, Joseph Gormley.  We put it onto eBay this week to get our launch our 2012 charity fundraising efforts.  As well as a couple of local charities we will again donate to the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.  After so many Celtic fans have been touched by three kids, Oscar, Niamh and Vanessa, this year we added The Neuroblastoma Alliance who do research work into the childhood cancer.

The auction raised an incredible £5000.  When I contacted the winning bidder and discussed some of the stories behind the beneficiaries I had to insist he took the painting, he was so affected he wanted to return it for another auction to raise more money.  Joseph Gormley was so inspired by the success of the auction he has already offered to paint other subjects for us and I have a jersey signed by the Seville team in the pipeline.

So, if you were one of those who bid an incredible amount but were pipped at the post (and there were a few in this category), there will be another chance soon.

Running this blog gives me the privilege of witnessing so many great works, most of which come with the request of anonymity.  It’s a real honour.

Well done and thank you.

  1. Doncaster is right not to comment on this. There is nothing he could say that wouldn’t be reinterpreted and misinterpreted to death.

I’m surprised though that he would talk to someone who has no status in football at present, other than as someone who has a plan to put in a bid that might then see him negotiate to buy a club that might not exist.

I haven’t believed a word the Express has said since their sports editor Andy McInnes, Minty’s glove puppet, indulged himself in a Beggars headline directed at Celtic- the irony in that

Who said anything about enjoyment, it’s watching Celtic we’re talking about here :-)

With respect you claimed a while back that I would be a ‘joke’ supporter following a ‘joke’ club if I continued to attend games in the aftermath of a hun re admission to the SPL.

As I’ve already said why did you continue to watch Celtic in the full knowledge that we were participating in a league with a club which operated a policy of religious apartheid?

I wish i could write a post like that when sober, never mind drunk. Heart warming.

I closed my eyes & thought of my favourite moment, it brought a tear to my eye.

Seville, behind goals, with my son & daughter (12& 11 at the time), Henrik’s 1st goal, everyone celebrating, my daughter keeps pulling at me & tells me to look at her brother, he is in floods of tears (tears of joy). That memory will stay with me forever.

    HT, your pain will ease.

  8. If true about FF then good luck to him in the future, He will be England number 1 within a year or 2. Had hoped he would sign a long term contract as this guy is only going to get better and better. He has improved dramatically since he arrived.

So where do we go from here…I’d be happy with either Boruc or Gordon.

I fear that may be a one off. My brother paid for Jersey, I’m taking her to Millport!! :-)

Doesny matter what laptop loyal say

Our hero whytey own Huns and wants about 10m for his huge investment of 1 pound

Any newco who wants a training ground or ground to

Play has to pay him :)

Without paying him, newco has to lease hampden

With no income mmm. Interesting how that can be done

  11. seems everyone is bending over backwards to help the bigots, that’s cool, keep on helping, keep on digging.

i hope a newco going into the spl triggers celtic’s move out of the SPL and gives us legitimate grounds to petition footballs governing bodies for a move. the SPL will be a league that promotes and encourages cheating and dishonesty for the benefit of one club.

if rangers cannot be relegated or go bust does that not mean the competition is set-up?

how does that sit with fair play?

what if they decide they actually need to play in the CL every year, do we just step aside and say o.k, because we need a strong rangers?

what if they say we need rangers to win at least one cup every year, do we get every other team to compete then at the end just give them the trophy?

    spl newco = game up

Tune in for this weeks episode of the soap ‘JQB’.

  13. I can only see Forster going back to Newcastle if Krul is sold. FF must want regular first team football. But if he is willing to sit on the bench at Newcastle rather than sign for Celtic then good luck to him.

On top form Craig Gordon is a fine goalkeeper. If he is over his injury problems then he would be a great replacement.

  14. Can I just say a genuine thank you to all who have taken the time to comment on my post in the early hours, it is greatly appreciated.

Wasn’t gonnae submit it, it was more a personal expression of gratitude but after about 2 hours and another 4 cans, I thought that I might as well post it :-)

  15. hamiltontim 4.48- An amazing very heart warming story, thanks for sharing it.

It never ceases to amaze me the muticultural background among the Celtic support and we are all accepted as equals, which makes me immensely proud and humble.

  16. They might have operated a policy of religious apartheid but it was us who creamed the benifits.

  17. An interesting quote from Paul Clark in the Herald:

“Ticketus have always told us that they have the ability to get Whyte’s shares. They have said, ‘You don’t need to do anything Duff & Phelps, we’ll deal with it’. I believe they are still talking to [Whyte] and they are close to a solution.”

So is there a deal in the offing between Whyte and Ticketus? They get his shares to sell – is that his “personal and corporate” guarantee against the money they put up?

  20. Kit. How did we get the benifits

We had Danny mcgrain , but top

Right back in world sandy jardine played for huns, must of as he had all the caps at right back

We had 2nd rate jimmy johnstone , but Willie Henderson was top winner in Scotland and he got all the caps,

    True eh kit

  22. If the newco deal goes ahead with minimal or no penalties, then the most shameful period in scottish football will have been presided over by two Englishmen, Doncaster and Regan.

It is the wonderful posts like yours that make this site a great place to be.

Agreed but we continued to supplement and by our silence, support that policy.

Jeezo I’m not slagging Celtic here in fact it’s the opposite. My point is that our policies and decision making should be completely separate from the huns.

If we truly are an entity on our own and not just one half of a commercial cow then we as a club and a support should be making our decisions based on our own mission statement regardless of what they do.

  25. Philbhoy

    Thank you for that.

You still up for Continuity CFC along with Estadio and me?? :-)

  26. Gene's a Bhoys name on

    Inspired by J Milton Hayes

There was a blue-nosed Orange Monster

    To the south bank of the Clyde;

    There’s a Big Hoose standing on that side of town;

    Now a broken-hearted Ally

Tends the grave with Duff and Phelps,

While the owner Craigy Whyte he gazes down.

He was known as Minty Murray

By the Huns that frequented there,

He thought he was smarter than he felt inclined to tell,

But, for all his foolish pranks,

He was worshipped in the ranks,

And the Establishment smiled down on him as well.

He had thought this all along

With the passion of the strong,

And decided to employ the EBT.

It was cheating by the Hun,

    And arrangements were begun

To save tax and to defraud old HMRC.

    Well Craigy came to save

With a pound and a plan so brave

With Ticketus in tow to foot the bill

Pay no further tax to the nation

    Will lead to administration

Then he sat and waited to have his fill

    They asked for final bids

And along came a bunch of dids

But no money was put down on the table

There was Kennedy, Ng and Murray

But none were in a hurry

And to satisfy the Creditors they weren’t able

So what is left for the Nation

    It’s only liquidation

And we’ll take their tainted titles when their done

    No Newco in the SPL

The authorities think would be hell

But for fairness it’s better when their gone

The Celtic Board could stop a newco huns being admitted to the SPL. It therefore follows that if a newco huns is admitted straight into the SPL it will be because the Celtic Board want it.

For your argument to have any substance it would require the Celtic Board to have wanted the huns to have adopted and maintained their anti Catholic signing policy. I don’t believe that and I don’t think you do either.
