Green and the interests of Scottish football

789

I’ve read yesterday’s statement from prospective Rangers owner, Charles Green, a few times now, without really understanding what the point was.  When someone issues an unexpected statement the reason is usually obvious.  Not on this occasion.

Published on the official Rangers web site it once and for all confirmed that Duff and Phelps were acting with the approval of Green when they took the SFA to the Court of Session, thereby bringing the entire Scottish game into a potential disrepute situation with Fifa.

Mr Green will now be fully aware of the ramifications of Rangers court action.  They failed in their attempt to have the matter referred back for consideration to the Judicial Panel and, as Paul McConville pointed out yesterday, cannot be ejected from the Scottish Cup.  They are not currently participating in the Scottish Cup, and suspension from a future season’s Cup is not an available punishment.

His legal advice is now likely to conclude that his actions will soon lead to suspension from the Scottish FA.  There is, however, an interesting theme through Green’s short statement that might indicate why his statement was issued:

“I nor my investors wish to see an outcome that would be to the detriment of Scottish Football”.

“….suspension or termination of Rangers Football Club membership of the SFA. That in our view would be a disaster for Scottish football”.

“Expulsion from the Scottish Cup is itself a very serious punishment which would also have a severe impact on Scottish football”.

We are heartened to hear the interests of Scottish football are so core to Mr Green’s heart.  This being the case, he will possibly protect Scottish football by asking the SFA to impose the now-illegal player registration ban on Rangers and beg them not to refer the matter back to the Appellate Panel. The horse has bolted on this one but it’s possibly worth a punt.

Hoyt Axton recorded his on a mixed (North & South tunes) album of CW songs. He was no racist but he was a southerner.

Mrs.thomthethim has just said that that show would turn any self respecting RFCIA fan, into a Celtic fan.

I pointed out the flaw in her thesis.

There ain’t no self respecting, etc…

  5. Hamiltontim, what game did you have in mind, the first time I heard it at half time was the game mentioned, think it might have been the game big Stark scored, but I am ready to be shot down.

Never know a Republic yet that voted to bring back the Monarchy.

The French make as much money showing tourists round Versailles as we do round Buck House but the French save money by cutting out/off extraneous extras such as the Royals and hangers on.

Got my dates mixed up, the time I remember it was in the 3-1 win over them at Parkhead in 1987. We were 2-0 up at half time thanks to two pens from Chocky when that was played over the tannoy. Sally pullled one back for the evil ones before Archdeacon scored the third when Woods and Nichol made a mess of a free kick.

I am pretty sure it was played at half-time durig the 1-1 league match which took place the week following the 1986 League Cup Final when Davie Syme, sorry Cooper scored a last minute penalty to win the Cup.

That would make it November 1986.

Brian McClair scored for us and McCoist for them.

I turned the royal party over as Cliff struggled to reach the notes, to catch Secret Millionaire. BTW how many series has this show ran for? I think its fair to say the dogs in the street knew she was minted. Anyway tonights episode centred on ‘East Glasgow’, and homed in on Easterhouse. I always like the way these programs show up the real social deprivation which has gone on in certain parts of what was once the second city of the empire. It was a wee bit ironic that millions of pounds were being lavished at the same time, 400 miles away in the same country. The camera shots of this East Glasgow wasteland must have been a depressing and embarrassing site for those political parties, MP’s and local councillors involved in creating another slum and Easterhouse is not alone. The 1968 Frankie Vaughan documentary at least showed the scheme as having some life about it, although rife with gangs. In 2012 its a ghost town by comparison. As usual some real genuine people were the one shining light.

At one point the show cuts to another part of ‘East Glasgow’ called the Calton. as we all know the Calton is five minutes walk from the city centre. Easterhouse is about 6 miles away. Just something thats always annoyed me.

Anyway we were then told by the millionaire from London that the Calton-Gallowgate area becomes a war-zone at night, and that Glasgow has 170 gangs, the same ammount as London which has 6 times the population.

Am I missing something? This show is same old same old, but worth it tonight for me as it showed up another of Scotland’s hidden shames.
