Green’s failure to make an offer more telling than Doncaster drama

620

There are so many plot lines in the epic story that Scottish football has become it’s easy to lose track, especially when the chief executive of the SPL insists that he still doesn’t know if Rangers have a case to answer in connection with improperly registered football players  – a completely untenable position on week 11 of the inquiry.

He should know.  If he doesn’t, he should resign and allow someone else to pick up the baton.

While this drama has dominated headlines the important storyline happened off-stage.  11 days ago the Blue Knights consortium, fully aware of how time-critical events were, said their accountants needed to be place at 9am on Saturday 12 May for Rangers to achieve a CVA.  Even more importantly, they also said that a Newco would not work.

If the Blue Knights men were in place on 12 May creditors could have voted on a CVA this time next week.  As it is, creditors still have nothing to vote on, the prospective buyer has not been able to put a deal to them.

Green’s failure to produce an offer since being appointed nine days ago, alongside missing his own deadline to announce a creditor’s meeting on 6 June, are the most important acts in this month’s play, so far.  He has to find funders who are able to see a return on investment which Paul Murray and Brian Kennedy tell us does not exist. It’s worth noting that both of these men will be far closer to the financial realities of running Rangers than anyone Green will find in Bangalore.

Unless a consortium can be pulled together that will offer money for the assets of Rangers FC, the company will expire next week when it runs out of money.  No CVA, no Newco, no matter what Neil Doncaster does.

Don’t be surprised if Mr Green walks away soon.

It is also galling to see fans pay per match as pay much less than those who pay there money upfront.Celtic need to look at this.

I too pay for two tickets in the lounge ,and realise the huge expense that it is.

A stake through their heart would be extremely hard, as I doubt the Orcs actually have one ;o)

  5. Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said that James Forrest will not be playing for Team GB at the London Olympics.

Forrest had been tipped for a place in Stuart Pearce’s squad for the games and with FIFA rules stating that players called up would not be able to choose club over country, Celtic feared they would be without the Scotland international for crucial Champions league qualifiers.

Speaking to STV, Lennon said that he had been told that Forrest would not be selected for Team GB after discussions between Pearce and Celtic. The manager said that no Celtic players would be part of the united British team.

“Certainly not the British players, we’ve spoken with Stuart on that,” Lennon explained.

“James Forrest will not be going because he’s been injured. Stuart’s aware of that.

“As regards the rest of the [non-British] players, we’ll speak to the other federations regarding that and hopefully there will be some sort of resolution where they are playing with Celtic when the time comes.”

Lennon also confirmed that Forrest had been part of Pearce’s initial plans.

“He was in his thoughts but the fact that he’s been out for so long probably rules him out.”

Neil Doncaster’s position statements are exposing the SPL for what it really is:- A cartel of businesses that trade in entertainment industry. As head of the cartel his role is to maintain and grow the value of the cartel. He will see off any threat to the total ‘wealth’ of the cartel in whatever way he can, whether that is by proposing new rules, (And including arbitrary voting criteria for each vote – How did he get away with that) or peddling misinformation to help mitigate the threat.

He’s acting more like a pension fund manager than a sporting administrator IMO.

I heard the talksport pundits earlier today praising the wisdom of managers being put on a rolling contract. Guardiola, Mourinho, Hitzfeld and Ancellotti have all been employed in this type of deal. Funny how we were ridiculed by the LL for adopting the same policy with MON. Was WGS also on a rolling contract?

Why sign McCormack? Hes no better than who we have but IS another wee man. Dont get me wrong,. I like him, would have signed him 3 years ago and hes a better player now, good striker. But why sign someone who is the exact same dimension as the players we have at present?

If the worst should happen and we end up selling Hoops or Stokesy then yeah go for him.

We have to lose strikers before we sign more of tht ilk. Not to mention, signing players like that will hamper the development of the likes of Watt, who surely deserves a chance.

It does becomes a different story if our forward line sheds some weight though.

On other post: I was under the impression James was injured. But tht said I dont care if its true or not, as long as hes fit next year. Id say pulling out injured is the safe option, he has less games, doesnt risk repercussions on his international career for scotland but wont get vilified if he ever moves South.

James has dodged a bullet there. Pearce isnae fit to manage the fencing squad-and I mean the ones around the perimeter.

He is tactically inept, and fond of playing “name” players to the team’s detriment.
