Gruesome elements attached to the game

285

The testimony of Gary Allan, QC, to Channel 4’s Alex Thomson, on the threats and intimidation he received after sitting on the SFA tribunal which imposed a 12 month player registration ban for various financial misdemeanours while the club was in administration, is stark.

The details of what Mr Allan went through is available on the Channel 4 website, it is so gruesome I’d rather not bring it here, but these are not the action of football fans.  This is a criminal subculture which has attached itself to elements of the game.  It would be an enormous mistake for anyone to pander to those elements, only chaos will result.

It is painfully evident the damage which can be caused by inflammatory comments but unfortunately I predict further incitement ahead.  A great deal of wrong-doing went on in the Scottish game over a long number of years which subverted our competitions.  This has now been disclosed and disciplinary processes are underway.  It is too late to stop this process, nor should it be stopped.

Those who subverted the game are entitled to a fair hearing but the rest of Scottish football are entitled to demand processes are followed.

Gary Allan is a mere water carrier of the Rangers-group-of-clubs troubles.  The architects are being protected, as best they can be, by their former lieutenants.

It’s been a good week for the broadcast elements of the mainstream media.

1-Leave Kev alone (the offending comment has gone,so cannot comment) He probably had too much Irn-Bru and made an ill-judged comment. It happens. I doubt he meant to impugn Tommy’s memory.

2-Kev,you might be well advised to apologise.

3-The Exiled Tim is right;we will only see justice being done if it suits an agenda, and it won’t be real justice. It will only be another battle in a war where the aces are held by those who have always held them.

Had a laugh at the local bigot the other day (fortunately, not too many of them where I live)…

Called him a ‘necro’ …. he looked puzzled, so I explained that sevco fans are ‘fawning over’ (I’m being polite here) something that I said in my best John Cleese voice, “is no more”, “has ceased to be”, is “bereft of life, it rests in peace” … took him a second, then his face went like thunder, and he stormed off. Me and Derry (my dog) had a good laugh all the way home.

“I know this has probably been done to death, but what are the likely scenarios with UEFA if The Rangers win the Scottish Cup?”

It’s straightforward. As a new club they are not allowed to play in European competition for three years.

Uncomplicated – and clarified by a UEFA spokesman on Sky about six weeks ago.

  18. Lennon warns Celtic players

Neil Lennon: ‘At this club we see everyone as equal’

    .

Neil Lennon has warned his Celtic players that they will be sacked instantly if they are found guilty of any form of discrimination.

The issue of racism is back at the top of the agenda in England and the Professional Footballers’ Association, after criticism from some leading players, have come up with a six-point action plan which includes making racism-related offences punishable by the sack and the introduction of a scheme to boost the number of black coaches and managers.

Asked about the football version of the ‘Rooney rule’, which was introduced by the NFL in the United States in 2003 to ensure qualified ethnic minority coaches are on interview lists for job vacancies, the Celtic boss said: “I don’t have a problem with that at all.

“We are an open club and we have been since the club was formed 125 years ago.

“I have a zero tolerance rule. I have spoken to the players about this before.

“Any sign of any sort of racism against colour, religion, background will be an instant sackable offence.

“I don’t have to really speak to my players about that. The spirit and respect they have for each other is tremendous but they have been made well aware of that before.

“There is no place for that (discrimination) in the game and there never should have been.

“At this club we see everyone as equal and all I see are footballers and men and we treat them that way.”
