Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. I’m happier about departures than I am about the many loan deals and reluctant purchase we’ve made….

  2. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES

So for all this massive shift, at this stage in the game, it’s definitely going to be No?

    Have I got that right?

The academic research suggests that yes support will fall before the vote, and I have no doubt that will happen.

  3. Ernie

Yes your right, there is no comparison, but, there is a real split in The New Labour Party in Scotland as to where they go from here. Some long time members cannot believe how much they have cosied up to the Tories in order to get a NO vote. The privatisation of the NHS in England and they way it has been changed here to reflect a completely different viewpoint is sticking in a lot of left of centre throats por cierto.

  4. Ernie…

I’m pretty sure it will be Eck’s last stand but as for the SNP they have NEVER been stronger.

Just in case you wonder…I’m a Labour man.

There is no chance of the SNP splitting. Independence for Scotland once used to be the province only of their members and a handful of others.

Now it is a Scotland-wide political and social ideology which goes beyond their party and beyond its politics.

if you think the “lifetime opportunity” ends if it’s a no, you’re further away from the reality of this than I thought. It doesn’t matter whether it happens now or later, but there’s an inevitability about it now, and a momentum behind it which won’t be halted.

Next year, England will elect a Tory government, whether or not Scotland is independent or not. If we are, it’ll not be a matter for us. If we’re not, a lot of people are going to regret voting no. When the Scottish block grant is slashed, when the Barnett Formula is scrapped, you’re going to see one Hell of a backlash, because that government will not have a mandate for what it does on this side of the border.

We are in new territory here, and if you think we’re going to just pull up our tents and head on home … guess again. Everything has changed.

  7. ernie; I will leave the explanation of bookies odds to some of those better versed .

However there is a lot of empirical evidence of the unreliability of polls where (for whatever reason) the individual will tell the pollster that he will vote one way and vote the other.

  12. Didn’t think we would sign anyone , so pleased to be proved wrong, & if K C signs a new deal I am one happy bhoy

  13. I’m happy enough with the two signings although Stefan has a wee bit of work to do to convince me he wants to be here. What I can’t understand is how it is sensible to gamble on CL qualification before spending. Given that failure to qualify is likely to result in demands to spend to improve it seems like we are going to have to spend anyway, so why not spend and increase your chances of CL qualification.

Btw £3m for George Boyd seems like a reasonable buy for Burnley, could have done a turn for us, and replaced the Sammi locks, for those that like that sort of thing – like Mrs C :)

  14. Welcome to Celtic, Bhoys.. Welcome to Paradise.. Were still feeling the disappointment of missing out on the CL the way we did, but with a wee bit of quality, some confidence back in the side and the support of our fantastic family of fans.. we can make this a great season.. Lets get off to a good start v Aberdeen at home, then lets show the EL what we are really like !! To the bhoys that have left us.. Thanks for your contributions.. good luck and best wishes.. remember us fondly. HAIL HAIL.. COYBIG.

The one thing that keeps SNP together is the independence goal. If they get over 40% say, they would still Harbour that ambition. It wouldn’t be totally unrealistic that if there’s a no vote the snp could win a majority on the next scot parliament election and have a mandate for another referendum, that’d be a turn up!

If they win and get a yes that’s when I see them splitting up as their own disparate political beliefs will no longer be over ridden by that one bonding theme of independence, they’ll have it then

Well yes a bit embarrassing for him BUT

he’s the only one signed on for a term deal so yes got that in his favour!

  20. Tet,

I’m not sure fan pressure had anything to do with it. Well, maybe a little.

Displays on the pitch dictated the need for new faces. Not the ones in the stands.

Anyways….looking forward to the end of the international break already :)

  21. Now that the squad has finally almost been completed for the coming season, I think Denayer would be ideally suited to fill the position that Wanyama occupied.

  22. Noticed this on Twitter.

    “Southampton FC ‏@SouthamptonFC 1m

CONFIRMED: #SaintsFC beat the clock to complete a #deadlineday move for Sadio Mané from @RedBullSalzburg. #SaintSadio ”

Hope he is a big loss to them, unsure if he gets a regular game though. por cierto

  23. RecordSport understands John Guidetti deal has been completed. Needs rubber-stamped by SFA before Celtic make an official announcement.

  24. Southampton sign midfielder Sadio Mane from Red Bull Salzburg!

Is this also good news for us?

    Know nothing about him.

  25. ernie, The point I’m making is, they could hardly say we are going to hold a vote every 5 or 10 years. They have to say this is a one off opportunity in order to maximise their supporters. Once the referendum is over all bets will be off. Everyone in Scotland And Britain will examine the vote and plan future strategy. If its close the Tories, Labour, The Nats will all know that Independence is inevitable. They may even try to negotiate a deal around it.

  26. Feeling happier, but got to admit I know nothing about any of the players we’ve brought in and have only seen berget a few times and the young Centre half just the once against maribor.

Glad some have been moved on but still maintain the squad is too big.

  27. the glorious balance sheet on

Southampton have just confirmed the signing of midfielder Sadio Mane from Salzburg for £12 million. Good news for us as it weakens our Europa League opponents and its too late for them to spend the money on replacements.

  31. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES on

    Ernie 23.43,

As the old saying goes, ‘ Nothing in life is a certainty…. Except Death & Taxes ‘.

I have always been confident that the gap would narrow dramatically as we got close to polling day.

I will wait & see how much further it shortens & will then probably hedge my own situation & have a decent bet to NOTHING about a YES vote.
