Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. the long wait is over

he was back to pretty much the player he was in his 1st season, last season after recovering properly from a bad injury.

    12th man?

The 12th man needs to get behind the other 11…..especially when some of those guys are down.

    Anyway….bawbaws for me.

    Pauls server is smokin tonight!!!

I got the 2 strikers i hoped for.

Feel like a big kid :)

The only thing is…..will they be as good in action….as they looked in that shop windae?

    Time will tell eh?

    Sleep well fellow tims :)

Good work to get rid of Pukki, Balde et al. Won’t rush to judgement on the new guys – know nothing about either. I hope they are better than the recent crop of forwards we’ve brought in. The Serb boy better be good after pissing us about. A personal redemption for Lawwell who would have been in trouble if nothing had happened tonight. A slick operator indeed. The breathless suspense of the window almost enough to distract the fans from Legia and Maribor. Almost, but not quite. Good luck to the new boys. Hope the departing lads have happier times where they’re going.

I’m not a betting man. All I know about it (and I learnt this early on) is that it’s run to suit insiders. I’m talking about horses but that was enough for me to steer clear for ever more.

But at this stage are the odds changing because more people are betting, or because the bookies think the outcome is less certain, or because the bookies want to entice more mugs to part with their money?

    Genuine question.

  5. Bada,

I bet that pained you there posting that;)

I’m same. Just correcting the ‘facts’ about the odds.

Clubs get a slight extension to confirm some transfers going through just past 11pm, for instance Southampton have just confirmed the signing of Alderweireld on loan from Atletico Madrid at 11.25pm. Guidetti will probably be confirmed in the next 30 minutes or so.

  7. Think we’re stronger. Last year was very poor – this feels positive. The squad looks better.

We need to manage the fitness of our top players better- Broony, James and Lustig are always getting injured. If we get and keep everyone fit we must have a chance at the quarters of the Europa, maybe even better.

Well done celtic and come on Ronny. Think Broony will sort out the midfield when he is back.

  8. Very happy with the outcome, should have been done sooner tho.

Good to see a few going out on loan, hopefully never to return.

Embdy else think Pedro crapped it, oot of the CL, dwindling crowds etc and pulled the finger oot ?

    Well done Pedro, now get the GB back, sort out the standing section, sort out the stewarding, the catering, the living wage, most importantly the referees, the sfa and a few other things, and you will go a ways to getting much of the support back onside, shouldn’t be too hard for a CEO like your good self, after all you are running the best ran club in europe, if not the world >}

  10. What’s the point of having a transfer deadline if everyone is getting an extension? What’s that all about?

Still time for us to get a left back in then.

1st September was my wee mums birthday

She used to tell me not to get too caught up in the fitba as ” they don’t pay your rent”

She was raised a proddie and her dad even trained with the dark sidera

She lived near govan cross and I used to park at hers and wAlk up broom loan rd to the matches .. She would often say ” I hope it’s a draw as there will be no trouble ”

I often pointed out that the Huns caused less trouble when they won but always caused it anyway

This year on 1st September I think she realised I was getting a bit down over the events at Celtic and influenced some good stuff

Thanks wee Ruby … My wee gem

  13. Now it wouldn’t take a genius to spot the dross but nonetheless credit to RD for off loading Temu and Amido as well as giving Dylan and the Fridge opportunities elsewhere…

The first two were only recent signings and I am glad to see a selfish and ruthless attitude by the boss.

I’m really uncertain about Rony but this is encouraging.

  14. the glorious balance sheet on

    itsabouttim 2335:-

From BBC: Clubs sometimes conclude deals at the last minute and it is not always easy for them to get everything completed and sent over by 11pm. The so called ‘deal sheet’ allows a club to confirm that a deal has been reached in order to allow for additional time to submit the remaining documentation.

The sheet cannot be used prior to 21:00 BST and needs to arrive fully completed before the transfer window closes. Once the sheet arrives, clubs have got until 1am in which to submit the full paperwork.

  15. “Embdy else think Pedro crapped it, oot of the CL, dwindling crowds etc and pulled the finger oot ?”

    The crowds aren’t dwindling though.

    Fear of them dwindling…..possibly.

  16. Nothing on Official site re Guidetti or nothing about Balde or Pukki either. Everyone appears certain that they are gone, How come ?

  17. Okay after today we have left the window stronger

Goalkeeper – swapped one top international for another and for £10m profit

Defence – Kept VVD, added Denayer

Midfield – Added Wakaso, Berget, Tonev. When Broony is back I’ll be happier

Forwards – maybe add Berget here, addition of McGregor, and now two good strikers whilst getting rid of Pukki and Balde thank God

    Sorry, no comparison.

The SNP have repeatedly stated that the referendum is A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity.

Where do they go when it’s a No vote? What do they do?

I suspect they’ll end up splitting.

Only money,.. & plenty of it, can shift a market which has remained so steady for over a year.

That 24 hour London trip thing is a horrible gig.

I did it for years and it made my hair stand on end.

Once or twice I only made it home by being smuggled on board the Caledonian Express from Euston which leaves around 9:25pm ( i’d missed the plane – in fact several planes ) and any search of train times is sure not to mention the express which goes to Edinburgh where it splits in two with one half going off to Aberdeen and the other half going to Oban.

You are not meant to get off at Edinburgh and if you do sneak off you have to avoid the train controller. Mind you in certain circumstances you have to avoid the train controller all night — like when you have been sneaked into one of the sleepers — but that is another story entirely.

The Oban leg of the train amazingly stops at Westerton for some reason which is pretty near home for me — although there is always the small matter of the car which I left at the airport but hey not all plans are perfect.

But the London gig sure does you in.

  21. But surely the deadline is to sign the player. There is no requirement for the club to announce the signing by 11:00pm so why is an extension required?

  24. “The SNP have repeatedly stated that the referendum is A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity.”

Ernie, you were claiming that they were saying it was a once in a generation opportunity.

    So it’s lifetime now?

  25. ernie, People say anything ahead of elections. If the vote is tight say 55/45 in favour of No, planning for next referendum will start immediately (unofficially of course), If its that tight, Independence will come sooner rather than later.
