Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

    You’re a bit of a conundrum aren’t you.

You seem to be towards the mineshafter end of the footie spectrum yet much more conservative and implicitly more content from a political perspective.

An unusual combination in my experience.

Still. Broad church and all that.

  9. Info on new Southampton signing from Red Bull.

Has to be a plus for us.

Mane has made 88 appearances for the team, with an outstanding return of 46 goals.

He has been capped 15 times for the Senegal national side, while he also represented his country at the 2012 Olympic Games.

  10. Hoop hoop Hooray on

The opinion polls and the bookies both. ‘said’ tories had no chance of winning never mind with an overall majority on the eve of the 92 election,

The opinion polls and the bookies said SNP had no chance of an overall majority the day before the 2011 elections.

The bookies said james buster douglas st 33/1 had no chance of beating mike tyson. Dont think there were opinion polls on that one.

Regardless of what side you are on the yes odds right now in a two horse race are mighty attractive

    Kojo 0003:-

You say that it was too late to bring players in for the CL qualifiers but signing players tonight is fine as it gives them plenty of time to gel before the EL group stages. This isn`t true.

We had weeks to bring in players before the CL qualifiers and played five friendlies before the Legia Warsaw game – plenty of time and scope for players to gel.

However tonight we are just over 2 weeks away from the first Europa Group game. Players are away on international duty until next Friday; 6 days before the first Europa group game and we play only one match between now and the first Europa game.

So I`m sorry but I don`t buy your argument on this one.

we subsidise the EPL teams via our SKY subscriptions.

Looking forward to seeing these new players soon.

Hope they’re here to stand their ground and play grown-up football. We’ve been too soft-centred this season so far.

Been in and out of here for news updates today. Thanks to the poster ( apologies, name not remembered) who reported scenes of chaos and consternation at Lennoxtown earlier today.

I find it odd the normal rules of football economics don’t seem to be in play at the new club. Clubs skint = sell players. It has always been thus in the lower leagues.

It’s costing them money to borrow to stay alive, while they have assets they could sell and gain income.

The only way I can rationalise this is that buyers are scared off by the stupid levels of wages being paid to the likes of templeton, lack, sheils, law etc.

  25. Express reporting that Celtic have been fined again by UEFA:-

CELTIC and St Johnstone have been sanctioned by UEFA for flying Palestinian flags at European matches.

Both clubs were reported to the governing body after games in the Champions League and Europa League in July.

The Premier League pair have been warned about their future conduct by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee after delegates mentioned the flags in their reports.

Celtic were reported when it was seen at Murrayfield during the game against KR Reykjavik, while Saints were rapped after a fan flew the flag at McDiarmid Park when they faced Spartak Trnava.

UEFA deem the Palestine flag political because of the conflict in the region.

A UEFA spokesman said: “Celtic and St Johnstone were sanctioned for infringement of Article 16(2)(e).”

UEFA’s disciplinary regulations state: “All associations and clubs are liable for the following inappropriate behaviour on the part of their supporters and may be subject to disciplinary measures and directives even if they can prove the absence of any negligence in relation to the organisation of the match.

“The use of gestures, words, objects or any other means to transmit any message that is not fit for a sports event, particularly messages that are of a political, ideological, religious, offensive or provocative nature.”

There is something appealing about cricket but life is too short to find out what it is.
