Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

  1. I would like to know and we should have the right to know, how the SFA came to this decision, you just can’t come right out and say 7 games suspension without a summery surely?

  2. Tonev 7 game ban? I take it the SFA have cast-iron proof he committed a racist act? If you’re gonna ban a player there needs to be absolute proof – so let’s see it. If the ban is on the basis of one player’s word against another, then sorry but that’s not good enough.

    Also – Tonev is appealing the decision. SFA either need to confirm he is guilty based on hard evidence or acquitted – not a reduced ban.

  3. Disciplinary outcome: Aleksandar Tonev

    Thursday, 30 October 2014

    A Disciplinary Tribunal convened today in accordance with the Judicial Panel Protocol to consider the following case:

    Alleged Party in Breach: Aleksandar Tonev (Celtic FC)

    Match: Celtic v Aberdeen (SPFL Premiership) – 13th September 2014

    Disciplinary Rule(s) allegedly breached:

    Disciplinary Rule 202: Excessive Misconduct by the use of offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature.

    Outcome: Complaint established.

    Sanction: Seven-match immediate suspension applied.

    If the SFA have evidence to support this ban they should state that they do. If not, a dangerous precedent may about to be set. Anyone can accuse another player of racism in order to cheat.

    Imagine Mcshagger (liar and cheat) or thon lanky streak of pish from NI (uber cheating hun) having had the nous to have thought of this a few years back. Our whole team would have been suspended.

  5. When Viduka spat on the Dunfermline player there was clear evidence and in my opinion Celtic should have binned him but with Tonev even though a lesser player we should back him until absolute proof is given of his crime.

  6. Rule 202.

    A Low End offence – 4 game ban

    A Mid Range offence – 8 game ban

    A high End offence – 16 game ban

    “Pronounced guilty with no evidence of reasoning or justification”

    Well said SFTB, totally agree, shocking state of affairs, we need to hire in a top legal team to help us with this, around the world nobody knows or cares who Tonev is but they know who we are and its our name thats being blackened.

  9. Corroboration?

    I seem to remember that Aberdeen had the player who complained and another who backed him up, before they approached the referee.

  10. I’d send Tonev back to Villa because he’s pish

    Re the racism charge, let’s wait for the appeal.

  11. SFA will have evidence as they have given him a Mid Range sentence.

    The question will be what of the evidence is corroborated?

    They must have other evidence.

    If none then it is one persons word against another.

  12. We don’t know if Tonev said it, he may or may not have.

    However there is no proof, it’s the SFA trying to tarnish our name again

    Joke of a decision

    Glad to hear you can go to the Supporters Forum and would be interested in what you think works and what does not.

    I’ll repeat my post from page 2 later for others to have questions addressed.

    On the summit I think Celtic had no option but to attend. It was Politics and the argument we had done nothing to be ashamed of simply would not wash because we live in Scotland and would have set ourselves up for a fall as any failings would have been dragged up and used against us making us the ONLY bad guys.

    Such is the hostile environment the club lives in.

    Personally I would have said effoff but that would have affected me only. It’s a different matter when others might suffer from taking a fighting stance.

    The resistance to facing the truth about itself regarding the nature of Scottish society with regard to sectarianism is of Shutter Island proportions.

  14. I’m with TD67 on the Tonev debate. If it boils down to one man’s word against the other, why should we follow the SFA and back the Aberdeen man. I wouldn’t have a problem with sending Tonev or Berget back coz I don’t rate them but that is not the issue. Unless they produce compelling evidence that Tonev is guilty, the case is unproven as far as I stand. As someone said earlier would those calling for Tonev’s head be doing the same if Guidetti or Craig Gordon were the player involved.

    from the Miami Herald USA

    “GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

    Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev was banned for seven games on Thursday for using racist language toward an opponent during a Scottish league match”

    internationally this is bad news for us and could cost us plenty in terms of sponsorship if we dont defend and beat this slur on our name.

    That’s an assertion, not an explanation.

    Well they should have no problem coming out as to how they reached that assertion.?

    GerryBhoy:

    And neither should we accept anything – anything – ever – from the SFA, as being just and fair.

    They are corrupt, the game is corrupt, why do you think so many people have stopped going to the games….

    It can get more corrupt though and Celtic shouldn’t be party to anymore lynchings.

    Take it to a court, have them make a decision on the evidence, and if they find the SFA corrupt in malice then sue the feck out of the SFA. Oh sorry I got carried away in a wee dream there.

    I know all about the ethos and name of Celtic.

    I certainly never implied that you didn’t. I respect your point of view and your attachment to the Celtic ethos.

  18. Even if it is one man’s word against another, any disciplinary committee is perfectly entitled to weigh up the evidence and believe one party and not the other.

    In Tonev’s case there WAS other evidence in the form of TV footage of Logan’s reaction to the alleged abuse and the fact that he immediately reported it to various parties.

    I think it is very poor form for Celtic supporters to throw in the smokescreen of anti-Celtic bias and to claim that the whole thing is a fiction just to get at Celtic.

    Too many Celtic supporters seem to be suggesting that there is no absolute proof, so even if he did it, they cannot touch him. That to me is shocking.

    If Tonev loses his appeal, he should be sent packing, never to wear the hoops again.

  19. Auldheid

    Just quickly as I need to go.

    We won’t agree on this one. The summit was a sham which we should never have been a part of.

    I’ll let you know about Monday and my thoughts.

  20. As rock tree Bhoy said, internationally it could ruin us for very good sponsorships, we must get an open case hear and ask why they came to that decision and if they have proof, then that’s it he goes, if not, we sue the SFA and I kid you not.

  21. Jim White and Sky reports in indecent haste to besmirch the name of our club,so much so that they repeatedly show Stefan Scepovic as the guilty party on screen,cannae help themselves with White salivating at the thought and opportunity.,

  22. If Tonev loses his appeal, he should be sent packing, never to wear the hoops again.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    First of all I would like to see how they came to that decision, and if it is proven beyond reasonable doubt that racism was involved I’m afraid he goes, UNTILL then, I’m backing him.
  23. When I see you Celtic
    I’m going to the forum on Monday night as well , will text you nearer the time and meet up on Monday .
  25. I really cannot believe what I am reading on here.
    So we don’t care if one of our players racially abused an opponent. It is more important that we protect the good name of Celtic. Also, he’s pish so send him back anyway.
    Unbelievable.
    How low we have stooped as a support.
  26. Ultimately this will boil down to the burden of proof. In a court it has to be beyond a reasonable doubt. I’m not sure the SFA’s burden of proof is as demanding as a court. They may only have to form an opinion on the probability of something being said etc
    I would draw comparisons between Liverpool and Suarez but in that instance the accused admitted to using words which were for him culturally acceptable. I believe Tonev is flat out rejecting the claims and should be backed by the club on appeal.
  27. Dontbrattbakkinanger on
    I would have banned him for 70 games.
    He brings absolutely nothing to the team.
    The unCelticminded in the MSM have creamed themselves at the news.
