Haksabanovic makes no sense until you look deeper

354

As far as I am concerned, Liel Abada is not getting enough game time.  I understand why Jota is one of the first names on the team sheet and I see the value Daizen Maeda brings, but Celtic seem so much more productive when Adaba is on the field, so talk of Celtic chasing another winger was unexpected.

With James Forrest also in the squad, the wide attacking positions appear fully subscribed.  Jota will play, Abada will continue to develop, Maeda will contribute plenty and Forrest will largely provide cover.  Why then, are we linked to Sead Haksabanovic?

The Swedish-born, Montenegrin international will undoubtedly provide value for whichever club rescues him from his contract at relegated Russian club Rubin Kazan.  Without either Jota and Maeda, you would see the sense, but with both?

The only way this makes sense is if Celtic, three weeks into the season, are already coming under pressure for a prized asset.  Which, itself, actually makes sense.

  1. Jota wants away from Celtic, at the earliest opportunity, to earn a fortune, increase his net worth and participate in a better domestic league.

    Wow, there’s a surprise lol

If the posts continue in this speculative vein, by the bottom of page 3, Jota will have gone , we will know the exact sum…

    😂 😂

I give in. Who is JNPF?

Regarding the linked player’s flexibility, surely we’d need a backp centre forward (old parlance). Wee Kyogo will definitely get blootered enough for him to pick up an injury. As it is, I think Giakoumakis should also be getting more game time. Not to worry, as we’ll soon be in a Wednesday Sat/Sunday cycle that will utilise the full squad.

  5. Dear God,

They are all out in the open now,led on by Chairbhoys post from yesterday. You always notice after one of his ,past wallowing, anti Board, anti PL posts, all the ones who let this eat away at them, and let it colour their present view of Celtic, come teeming out of the woodwork.

Its gone,in the past.I don’t know any fans who are happy at what went on,but most I know, never mention it.What’s the point?.Some people just love wallowing in misery. For me,to be avoided.Life’s too short,to still be raging at what happened 10 years ago.The amount of success we have had in that period, just makes it more incomprehensible to me.

Ange is on record as saying,”We could do with another couple in,we hope to get them, depending on if they are right for the team”Does no one ever remember what he says?.Seems not.An excellent player gets mentioned, and the mob are out with pitchforks.”Jota,Abaca,JJ” will be sold.BOLLOX.

Only player sold will be one that wants to go.

Away back and wallow some more.

Maybe but not by me, so the question must be asked why you wish to conflate and confuse?

I found your article confused and conflated, at least, two main issues- The non-response and lies of the Celtic Board over the demise of Rangers AND the failure, as you see it, to spend big enough for us to get further ahead- whatever that means.

You have continued to use these two issues in your rebuttal.

I’d suggest the deludomal, take fholk down a long wyndy brae, take a few forks on the path, muddying any waters on route and it might give the impression there is some logic hidden in your comments.

My contribution cannot be described as either brief nor singular but it is around half the length of your contributions and the twists are just as prevalent as we both roam far and wide. That’s ok- I think we can both cope with each other’s styles.

Firstly the Sentinel Celts v CQN nonsense.

Some ghuys had an issue with the direction of travel of CQN, they go and start their own site – personally I was neither quick to jump on the bandwagon and I never have been a particularly regular contributor.

You raised the SC breakaway as relevant so I responded but SC was not and will not be bad mouthed by me. I don’t consider you as representative of SC anymore than I speak for CQN- my response Wass to your post not to the site.

Next you suggest I should have mentioned KevJ and Lionsroar. Why? Out of all the thousands of contributors to this site down the years why should I mention those two?

I stated why I mentioned them as they were more representative of the argument that you were advancing- that Celtic did not spend enough and had betrayed the support.

Then you go on to make the point that these posters are banned form the other site. So, what on earth has this got to do with my comments!?

They were banned from AN other site despite advancing a similar anti-Board message to that advanced by both founders of Sentinel Celts. They became the Judean People’s Front to the SC’s People’s Front for Judea. It was a schism over how deep the betrayal had been and over how pure the boycott response was. The two posters, if they are indeed separate, were rightly banned for gross insult to their hosts and for posting extreme right wing nonsense. I applaud the hosts for their action in that regard, but I still assert that, they were prime proposers of the Board Betrayal narrative, much more so than Neg Anon, who just wanted more spent on players.

Nothing, it’s there to conflate and confuse….

You have been able to read it and make a response so not too confusing, it seems. The conflation was inherent in your starting point- Board Betrayal and Spending Big to Get Ahead/Not spending big to let them catch us

Of course, those pushing the deludomal love it, yet most I suspect see through it.

Well, we don’t take polls or use thumbs up likes, so you can imagine yourself as the winner of the debate if you like.

Why have so many well informed, smart and articulate posters left this site? They don’t zip up the back.

Posters have left for a variety of reasons, including death and boredom, and Sentinel Celts was not the sole repository of the Exodus. Both Boards can thrive along with the pre-existing Celtic Boards and other platforms on Celtic social media. I don’t regard any of them as the enemy as they all have Celtic at heart. I admire all those who take the trouble to set up a Blog and to take the trash and insults they do from the many angry inadequates you can find trolling places.

As for not remembering MiT on CQN, he was on here a long, long time, one of those informed, smart, articulate types.

He is a criminal Lawyer and saw with much greater clarity than most of us what was going down.

I know Mike’s viewpoint mostly from SC. I was genuine in not recalling if he posted under that name on here. You and others have assured me that he did so it is my memory that is at fault here. Yes, criminal lawyers on TV and media, with a script, can seem superhuman in their power to dissect and analyse. I have seen a few criminal trials in the flesh and have never seen any lawyer come close to being bound by the rigorous principles of logic- look at the edits in the US Supreme Court over the years. I accept that Mike is articulate and logical but those are his personal qualities and do not come from his profession.

Now, it was certainly a view that Celtic were curtailing their spending to ensure that they weren’t to far ahead of new Rangers.

My feelings were the situation was more complex than that.

Here we agree- it is a lot more complex than that. Which is why , if we are to hold the Board to account for their failures in handling the events of 2012, we need to park the less logical and provable wing of you argument- the “speculate to accumulate” wing.

My recollection of Neg Anons stance was not that of one who wanted to speculate to accumulate (as if that in itself has to be a bad thing), no my recollection was he warned us the Board were not being straight with us and had no intention of putting the money made back into the Club.

My distrust of the “speculate to accumulate” dictum is the proof that there are more impoverished gamblers than successful ones- I’d prefer an operational policy with a bit more rigour than speculation.

With respect, I believe you have a faulty recollection of Neg Anon. He did regularly praise the way Rangers did business and wished Celtic were more like them in that regard. Yes, he was anti-Board -and so are we all- we just differ in the areas and regularity that we disagree with.

That famously came to a head during the “Willo Flood”, transfer window, that famously cost us a League Title.

I have written often of this myth. We did not lose the league because we failed to recruit better- though buying Willo was a mistake. We lost our lead after that window but we recovered and headed to Easter Road for our penultimate game to beat a dispirited Hibs team to practically guarantee the league and we failed to score. The guy who we “should have bought”- Steven Fletcher played that day and was useless for Hibs. It takes a denial of logic to believe he would have won it for us. Yes buying Willo was a mistake but not buying Fletcher was not. We lost the league by doing what had won us the league before- sticking with a tried and tested first team. what was logical the previous year turned out to be not the right thing this year.

There are those that argue Rangers needed that title to survive and the Celtic Board gave it to them.

    Again I don’t think it’s that simple.

It sure ain’t simple. The Celtic Board drew in their financial horns at two points this century. First, to pay back the debt post Seville and second to accommodate the drop in our finances when they went bust. People credit Brendan with bringing our finances and attendances back to a more healthy position. Brendan certainly improved the team- mostly the players here before him rather than ones he bought- but they fail to mention that Brendan’s arrival also saw the arrival of Sevco in the top division. We just loved toying with them with the better players we had. It was always going to be a closed gap someday- it needn’t have been the 10 war year but it was. And that was a year where we spent to retain- where we speculated and agreed this was the best thing to do. Football and logic, eh! Maybe those two things confuse and conflate themselves.

  7. I appreciate it is a risky old business but I honestly struggle to see how selling a prize asset which we have just secured on a long term deal makes sense when he is about to have an even bigger platform to perform on.

I get that we have revenue banked and we have a model which is sustainable and not dependent on an individual but surely £20m today vs £30m in 6-9 months would be a simple equation we might want to make in deciding whether to let Jota go.

If it is Leil then I really do think the lunatics have taken over unless it is Frimpong money.

So for me it has to be JJ and hopefully the new guy can play as an inverted fb or similar.

He wanted the liquidated club kept in the SPFL.”

    ——————————–

I did- this is not news. I have always stated this. With the caveat that we stripped their titles once the HMRC case was proven.

Now- maybe that wouldn’t have happened ( the problem with speculations) but it certainly didn’t when we allowed them to go and have their continuity accepted outwith our jurisdiction.

  10. McCarthy ,Ajeti & Julian will be sold or loaned ,so of course we need a couple more players in.

No player that Ange want will be sold HH

  11. If Jota does well in the CL, his value will double.

    Plus, he’s a pretty boy.

Must be able to sell a lot of shirts and stuff with his name.

  12. Tom McLaughlin on

It’s on afternoons like this you find out who the real Celtic supporters are and who are the shitebag panic merchants who savour every bit of negative speculation.

This morning we had the mad man complaining that in his opinion the budget was spent and there would be no more signings. Then we hear we are close to spending a few million on a new forward and it means Jota is being sold.

Isn’t it fascinating? Every time P67 posts an article positive about or defending the board, he is pilloried by posters right, left and centre for talking shite. But as soon as he posts negative news they’re swollowing it ravenously and all of a sudden Jota or Abada are being sold and P67 is a soothsayer.

What a shower of fearties. Saying Jota is to be the first player to be bought and sold in the same window and another claiming he wants away to make his fortune. Just listen to yourselves.

  13. Looks like forward planning to me,Haksabanovic is a player Ange has kept an eye on,can play anywhere across the front line, a good deal to be had,we would be back to the PL Deadline Day loans in previous years, only a fool wouldn’t realise that we will get bids for Jota,G Mak,Abada, O’Riley next summer ,so getting quality players in now makes perfect sense to me.

  15. Crystal Palace were looking at Abada last season, maybe the interest is still there…..

  16. Tom McLaughlin on

Dear God now it’s Josip Juranovic being sold. P67 suggested we have enough wingers, so bringing in a new winger means a other winger leaving, and in the madness, that somehow translates to oue right back.

    Jesus wept.

  17. Greenpinata

Fair point last night. I accept your critique.

I was trying to accentuate how good I thought SFTB post was.

I still think that and that view is heightened by the bitter and unstructured anti board and emotive follow up we are seeing. In my view of course.

  18. An T / Tom Mc

I don’t think it need be anyone.

I mentioned JJ and the inverted fb to emphasise how ridiculous it is as there is no logic in anyone else going.

Not sure if maybe that was too subtle for some.

  19. Dexter P. Bampot on

If this rumoured winger is coming then surely it’s Abada rather than Jota who would be the more likely exit. Liel has been excellent and probably feels a bit disappointed not to be starting ahead of Maeda right now but there’s definitely a case to be made for Daizen.

  20. Two weeks to go — then we will have some form of reality.

I think we will sell an active player — hope we don’t but everything points to AP is having to scrabble to improve the squad.

Spend currently looking like £15mill to £17mill and counting.

Was hoping that we were if for £25mill to £30mill this summer.

CL awaits and we have a few gaps.

At least AP seems to be fully engaged.

  21. Sad to see ex Celt Jim Dobbins daughter Beth upset at her false start in tge European champs. A lovely lassie who gives her all every race. Good she got her commonwealth medal at least last week.

Jim was at Celtic at the wrong time. Maybe might have made it. Did well in Yorkshire. Very Well thought of in some parts of South Yorkshire.

  22. Ange has form in thinking ahead, Hatate for Rogic,

If we are buying hopefully it is something similar,

Being realistic if we unearth a gem like Jota we only have a Loan of him,

If the EPL come calling and the player is offered multiples of what we are paying him, he will want to go,

If a player wants to go, his contract is not a barrier, He will go and it is a matter of how much we get for him,

It will be an almighty lick in the Haw Maws if he goes this window, normally I’d say no chance but the Pic of Jota with Tim Williamson which was circulating yesterday is haunting me,

I don’t think we’ll sell anyone this year. As others, like Bada, have said, next year might be a different story.

  24. The returnof weeron on

Oh dear. You have really caused a stir, Paul…..

Let’s reflect on the rules of the game in which we find ourselves:

As long as we are largely influenced by DD, we will be an organization that insists in breaking even every season, rather than investing and and redeeming in cycles.

We are also in a game where players get what they want.

We have stinking rich neighbours peering over our fence, waving their ill-gotten gains in our faces.

ANY player that we develop or acquire who is particularly good, will be sought after, will want to go, and will be readily sold.

We will then go hunting for another prospect. Rinse and repeat.

There is also another cycle: The managerial cycle. Everyone knows how this one works:

Hire a manager. Promise him the world. Let him buy (a portion of) the players he wants. Then bring the honeymoon to an end. (MON, BR, anyone?).

All of which to say, we will continue to sell our most sellable assets – or as fans would say, our best players.

So…the optimist in me says that this is not the end of the honeymoon. I prefer to believe that Jota will not be sold (until next summer). I prefer to believe that the player that we are supposedly about to buy is one who can play in several positions (as AP has said that is the type of player he wants).

So, we are fine. Nothing to worry about for now.

Unless….maybe…Ange meant it when he said he has no interest in the defensive side of coaching and just wants to collect all the attacking players he can afford.

    Who knows…?

Moral of the story: Just enjoy your day, folks. No sense in spluttering about something that hasn’t happened (yet).

  25. The photo from Ross Hall last night is definitive proof

We are selling the guy in the picture.

I have links down south who reliably inform me that they want this guy and are willing to pay for him.

So, take it from me- when have I ever let you down?

Our Physio, Tim Williamson, is heading for Everton for a huge fee.

Jota, just accompanied him to the Medical as he’s just that kind of guy.

  26. My friends in Celtic,

Facing facts is not anti Celtic.

We have a lot of good, some very good players and so speculation is naturally rife.

We have all witnessed lesser players going for mega fees. Do our player’s agents not see this too.?

Nobody is definitively stating we are losing this player or that player. However:-

We have 14 / 15 days left on the transfer window and we have a very entertaining programme dedicated to this ” entertainment “. A sports channel counting down each second of the Transfer window and fueling every speculation.

This is the dedicated job of the sports transfer program., they are after all promoting and financing huge TV deals.

Their parent company is influential, financiers and promotors of the ” beautiful game” and we are just pawns.

We must face reality, but we must also praise the Celtic regime who have to compete with such noisy neighbours.

Ange is pragmatic. He is building a team for European success. He knows that our aspiration must be to put down a marker in Europe but he is clever enough to know that every single one of our players has a price. But hopefully not yet.

European football and our passionate support is our only weapon. We must optimise both.

    HH to all.

  27. Personally I can’t see Ange allowing any of our top players to leave in this window, I also can’t see the board, who as is well know that I have no time for selling a player from under him, the repercussions would be just too much IMO.
