  1. After last night I have flippin Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker from the movie Officer and a Gentleman stuck in my head.

To be fair the imagery of Kolo Touré in his uniform carrying the entire Celtic team out of the Turner Stadium last night seems apt…

  2. Not been that nervous watching us since the Boavista game after Henke scored, cannot be good for the heart.Tremendously beneficial to the soul, though.

Not going to blame any individuals as the whole team were poor, win as a team lose as a team.I would imagine Brendan learned a thing or two about some of them and will do what’s required.

All that matters is we qualified,I didn’t think at the end of last season that would be possible so Brendan deserves great praise for that.As well as the financial boost the games will help improve our players and management team on top of giving us,the support,at least 6 special games to look forward to.It’s all good.

The gravy,of course,is the effect last night’s qualification will have on Sevconia, both on and off the field. They will actually need a real wizard’s titfor now.La la loving it.

Can I add that JNPs post describing watching the game with his bhoy and the after match c(h)uddle was brilliant.Could totally relate to it. :))

holy ship , we made it. it’s sunk in.

last night was all our faults. we make cp what it is on euronights and endow the players with a believe and drive to beat anybody and the results show we can beat anybody.we then take that away from them away from home and the drive and determination dissappears. we need a new mantra – CP on the move, CP anywhere

Good post. For a national broadcaster BBC Scotland is an absolute disgrace. Flood their complaint line with, well, complaints. HH

Pretty benign dessert. Good pitch, pleasant 26C, no wind to speak of. If we’re quoting last night’s conditions in mitigation, we’re in more bother than I thought.

  11. “Mjallby looked back at the display against Be’er Sheva in Israel and said: “It wasn’t a good performance at all.

“It was a wise move from Brendan Rodgers to change to a back three. Saidy Janko was struggling really big-time in the back four because he can’t defend.

    Don’t hold back there Johan!

    Oh,indeed. Get you on that.

Tonight I will be adjusting the timers on my 120W Pioneer multichanger downstairs and my 160W Technics upstairs, the one with Bose speakers driving the main system and the original speakers in Surround.

House isnae big enough for either but I won’t be there anyway. Work at 9pm. Pioneer to kick in around ten minutes later for one hour. Technics similar around midnight but for twenty minutes.

Harsh, but they’ve been asked often enough. And very politely too

  13. Absolutely delighted to be in the CL proper after what feels like an age. The status and finances of it should see us out of sight for years to come.

But, and it is a big but, personally I think that was a shambles last night. Throughout the team we looked like back to the worst days of Ronny. Cowardly play in large periods of the game where players would not make themselves available or put the work in for their team mates. We look like we don’t know how to sit back and hit on the counter anymore which is a huge problem but until we can do it why not just play our own high pressing game (while staying compact at the back). Particularly against opponents like that who I truly believe we are better than.

While there was barely a decent performance out there there was two things of note. When the pressure is on the central midfield collapses and gets bypassed. And Saidy Janko. I said last week he was raw but could be a weapon but I’ve changed my mind. I’ve never given a player a 0 out of 10 until last night. Can’t defend, can’t pass, has pace but shows too much of the ball, positioning is poor and his crossing isn’t the best. There’s plenty of athletes out there who can’t play football. I don’t want to be harsh on the boy, people have off nights going forward or make some mistakes at the back but last night it was everything, the simplest of passes, even under no pressure. How he stayed on the park is beyond me, his last kick he had the ball in acres of space, didn’t look up and punted it forward straight to their player to start another attack.

Right back a priority as Lustig is starting to lose his legs for that position.

  14. The johnatron,

Also the black strip is very flattering.

If you pull it over your eyes I appear much slimmer. :)

  15. Phil Macgiollabhain ….”Spoke late last night with a source very close to James McCarthy.

Loan deal to Celtic very possible.

    Not over the line yet”

  16. It’s funny how we all see things differently

It was the No.9 of Be er Sheeva that impressed me most.

He stood out at Celtic Park, and was equally impressive last night.

When he received the ball to feet it stuck. Strong as an Ox, and terrific close control and skill to match…

As for the person on the last page stating McGregor is better than Armstrong, Rogic etc….

    Nah. Have a lie down

Rogic is head n shoulders above our other contenders. He has more skill, more vision, goals, etc compared with the alternatives for the same position

  17. Saor Uladh on 24th August 2016 11:42 am

Mjallby said the same about Janko when he had just signed for us. Said they had him at Bolton and whilst he was good going forward wasn’t a right back as he couldn’t defend. He said he was a wing back or wide midfielder.

  18. Somebody should take Andy Walker’s temperature.

I was very surprised that Celtic chose not to appeal the yellow card given to Leigh Griffiths by referee Craig Thomson in last weekend’s 4-2 win at St Johnstone. There was clear contact between attacker and defender and sure, debatable whether it was a penalty or not but it certainly wasn’t worthy of a yellow card.

Maybe his tiring of sticking the boot in?

    Unlikely.

Last nights performance was all about fear.

    Who can conquer it…who cant.

We need a few players, no doubt.

    Craig Gordon’s scabby blue top……Noooooo

    Ditch the blue rag.

Much as I’d love to see him in the hoops, unless its a loan with an option to buy then no thanks. Permanent deal would be ideal.

  22. Paul was mocked on here weeks ago for suggesting we need a right back.

I might have even had a wee chuckle myself at the suggestion.

I hope he’s not in an ‘i told you so’ mood today.

    He was frightening last night.

He constantly lost the ball, his first touch is great, it’s his second and third touch that lets him down!

  27. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

    Ive said this before.

When we play away…..the mental strength needs to come from the goalkeeper.

Once the goalkeeper starts flapping, or does something unpredictable, the uncertainty spreads through the team….this should be obvious.

Try Dorus….see if there is any improvement.

I reckon Brendan sees the problem.

Craig Gordon may be a good keeper, but in big games, he flaps imo.

Scott Brown going into his shell again last night

    Janko…..Felt sorry for the bhoy

    We need more.

We need a Neil Lennon type player, and a Paul McStay type player.

We need strength and guts….the talent is there, but it takes more than ability.

  28. Young Boys, Rostov and Dinamo Zagreb 150/1 to qualify for the CL stages tonight which would Celtic in pot 3.

Still recovering from the stress of watching last night’s game. I think the humidity rather than the temperature was the problem. Sinclair displayed an incredible engine. Seems a real bargain in the crazy world of EPL transfers. We really do need a right back as BR seems to want athleticism to get up and down which Lustig (who I really think is a solid defender) lacks. Toure screamed at Janko a few times after he had been posted missing. Still, who remembers how we got there, warm after glow time! HH.
