Hart here to provide organisation

384

Those who want Celtic to stop with all the ‘ones for the future’ and concentrate more on players who are ready now, will be delighted at the prospect of Joe Hart (yes, I know, they will never be delighted).  At 34, Joe has the prospect of three years in Glasgow, helping to put Celtic back into domestic contention and into Champions League group stages.

He is 11 months older than Fraser Forster, whose decision to decline Celtic’s contract offer, after agreement was made with Southampton last year, precipitated so much trouble.  Neither keeper is at their peak, but Fraser was an incalculable loss, Joe Hart could go a long way to filling the gloves.

After securing star status with Manchester City and being first choice for England for seven years, Joe found himself loaned to Tornio and West Ham, before signing for then-Premier League Burnley, who required stopgap cover.  Last season was spent at Tottenham, largely on the bench, although he played 10 cup games.

A high profile fumble against Iceland at Euro 2016 was the Saka penalty of the day, ending England’s participation in the tournament, the incident lives longer in the memory than it would have in a different game.  He could have done better with the first of Leigh Griffiths free kicks that sailed past him at Hampden in 2017.  These and other circumstances combined to ensure he did not make the cut for the World Cup squad a year later.

I cannot tell you where Hart will perform on the spectrum between Fraser Forster at Hampden in 2019 and Vasilis Barkas throughout last season, it feels over optimistic to expect error-free miracles.  Nor is Joe a sweeper-keeper – an element of his game that hampered his ability to move to another top English club after Man City.

His abiding attribute is organisation.  Who does what, where and when, has been Celtic’s Achilles Heel in defence for a year, we can be sure this particular element will improve.  This, is the reason Joe is currently undergoing a medical.

I did have a season book about 15 years ago for about 15 years but work a lot of Saturday’s and was finding I couldn’t get to every game. My shift pattern is changing now so should be able to see most of the games.

Genuinely had a buzz when I knew I would be going back this season.

  3. Just compare this superb season long performance with the output from Ajeti, Griffiths and Edwards put together. This guy wanted to come to Celtic, was at the park ready to sign, and Lawwell didn’t get the deal done, because of his petulance towards the Peterborough chairman. Unforgivable negligence. This guy attacks the ball, bravely meets crosses with his head, sniffs out 6 yard box opportunities, can shoot with either foot, everything our three did not do last season.

  5. Over the proverbial with the signings, pity it wasn’t done a while back, but better late than never as the saying goes.

Esp delighted with the McCarty deal, he has been fit….ish for the past couple of years, if we can use him wisely he will rejuvenate us big time, as for the keeper, aye as has been said he has a mistake in him, they all do, but more than anything we need a shouty keeper top marshal the defence that we hopefully will now get sorted.

I haven’t lost the faith, in Ange I believe, I also believed in Ronnie, pity the players and the board didn’t, but I do believe this time it’s different with the players at least, as for the board

Just compare this superb season long performance

4 goals from open play and 1 assist in his last 17 games in the championship doesn’t suggest it was season-long.

  7. hart and McCarthy both risky – both have experience and the responsibility to help the younger players could bring out the best in them.

I liked the way we played against hearts – we would have won the game with 78% dominance had it not been for booby madden and the linesman. pure and simple!!

we need left and right backs who can tackle and play comfortably in the inverted position.

PS Ralston has been MotM despite all the criticism , high character shown and would be a steady #2 at right back!

    Get rid of Ajeti

Get Johnson out on loan or into the gym (VERY disappointed that he comes back after a long lay off and didnt use the time to strengthen his upper body)

Get Ko in from Man city and Julien fit

Sort of Eduard situ and we’re closer to a team

  8. Hart and McCarthy are much much better than players playing in teams other than them

We’re slowly putting together a first team that should comfortably take care of everyone else

McCarthy in particular should be a very big player for us in the spfl.

Your response and timing to new Celtic signings is trolling plain and simple.

  10. So hart and mccarthy have officially signed for the hoops. Happy to see both come in and I reckon we will be a far better team because of it. A goalie who commands his area and organises and a centremid (no serious injuries in 2 years) who breaks play up and does the dirty work. Different level from any of those in possession right now. Oh and for the first time in a long time the players are here because of their value on the pitch only only value (no sell on value). Perhaps a change in stratagy and more balanced approach to team building.

Please, please, please sign up a rightback, leftback, centreback, left winger and forward. If possible punt eddie asap, he clearly does not want to be here anymore.

I mailed the compliance officer at the SFA this morning re Halliday, just in case others forgot to do it, he should be, it was a shocker, hopefully Madhun has done us a favour by not booking him, but time is gonna tell.

Personally I would string him up, but as I am not allowed to do that……….

  12. Two good signings today and neither breaking the bank – plenty more areas need investment so today is shrewd business.

McCarthy and Hart will go some way to plugging up the sieve.

The one thing we’re guaranteed with McCarthy is 100% effort every time he wears the hoops. So he’ll immediately up the performance of the team.

  13. TET

    Well done!

If Halliday is cited that will be 5 players Madden didny send of against us.

And the club say and do nothing.

    Shameful.

    Ach well.

CQN couldn’t remain an Ivan Toney free zone for ever.

But it was a nice couple of weeks while it lasted.

Think I’ll console myself with the two signings we’ve made today.

For those who wallow in “what might have beens” (in football or life) …. I’ll leave you to whatever gets you through the day.

Just as important as bringing in new signings , is sorting out the huffy McGuffies .

Ajer’s away , Ntcham’s away so now to get Eddy sold and get Christie to either commit or quit .

A harmonious dressing room will go a long way to curing our ills .

Oh , and nice to see the moneyball obsession being addressed too . A few buy- to- sell projects is fine and indeed sensible but it has to be balanced with experienced Hart and McCarthy types, regardless of sell-on value .

  20. i’d like to see Ryan and Eddy both stay – perhaps these signings will put enough of a spotlight on the team that some o’ the wantaways see the light.

  23. Welcome to the two new recruits as with all signings time will tell how astute this business was

Two things to take from the dealings imo

1- much needed experience has arrived

2- manager set to be more pragmatic in his vision of how we set our stall out

hopefully more players to come soon

I think there might be a chance with Ryan , his performances under Ange have been a huge improvement . Unfortunately with Eddie , he has just carried on from last season .

Two excellent signings, will bring much needed experience to the team.
