Has this been our most successful transfer window ever?

288

It is not like Celtic to have no one to parade on deadline day, just as it is not like Celtic to have us glowing with contentment at the business they did early in the window.  Reo Hatate (24), Daizen Maeda (24) and Yosuke Ideguchi (25) arrived from Japan, where today Daizen made a 68th minute appearance from the substitutes bench in a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia.

Matt O’Riley (21) arrived from MK Dons, in the third tier of English football.  Matt has played one year of first team football, clearly a productive one.  His early Celtic performances reinforce the encouraging signs we heard from EFL watchers.  Johnny Kenny (18) arrived from Sligo Rovers as a development prospect.

Maeda scored within minutes of his debut, then watched Hatate steal the show and deservedly grab the Man of the Match award.  Ideguchi came on as a late sub against Hibs before being brutally injured at Alloa.  The early form of all three is encouraging, especially as they cope with living on a new continent, among new coaches and teammates.

We retained all first-choice players, with some on the fringes going out on loan.  The major disappointment was that none of our well-paid bench sitters left.  Has this been our most successful transfer window ever?  Stay tuned to find out.

All the noise in town yesterday came from across the city, where Newco acquired a midfielder who has made seven 90-minute league appearances since August 2017 (only one since going to Italy in 2019).   A friend suggested this was a classic Hail Mary move, although I’m sure that is not how they look at it at Ibrox.  Not all intercessions happen.

Later this month we face Raith Rovers in a Scottish Cup tie.  As things stand, they will field David Goodwillie, whom they signed last night.  Goodwillie was found to have raped a woman at a civil trial in 2017.  Fair play to Rovers fans for their overwhelming opposition to the signing.  They have a fight on their hands for the character of their club.

The Japan – Saudi Arabia game is due to finish around 12:10 UK time.  Hopefully by the time you finish reading this Daizen is in a taxi on his way to the airport.  There will be a good hour in his legs tomorrow night.

  1. just caught up on todays news.

i wouldnt be suprised if bojo comes out the plane cabin waving a bit of paper shouting we have declared war on germany

  2. Don Robertson looks to have denied Hearts a very good pen shout against Hibs.

Scottish referees have to be among the worst in European football.

  3. Definitely would not risk CalMac tomorrow. He has a serious injury and needs requisite recovery time. And the Huns would target him.

What date is on the Hibs scarfs. They started as a reincarnation, of an older club that went bust, in 1893. No one ever complained about that and that is the problem for our club calling out the reincarnation of the huns. The president was already set!! That’s why we focus on our unbroken history.

Res 12 if followed to a natural conclusion would have Scottish clubs banned from Europe at a time when new rangers were no in Europe!! Why cut off our nose!!

The 5 way agreement is a standard process which allows a reincarnation of an old club to proceed as long as no football debts are left unsettled. It happens under FIFA guidance all over the world. The only difference in our backwater is we set up tribal sides – same club/new club – and anyone questioning that – reincarnation of an old club – is a hun or fenian. Depends who you talk to!!

Were Celtic aware of the five way agreement?

    ================

Not only were they sent a copy to accept at end of July 2012, its contents were rehearsed to Eric Riley as an SPFL Board member in October 2013. The issue was collecting the £250k LNS fine on Rangers. The possibility of Rangers taking the matter to CAS was mentioned. That was only possible because of a clause in the 5WA Celtic accepted.

A month later when agreement was reached to adjourn Res12 at the 2013 AGM PL insisted that all questions be put to the SFA with no approach to UEFA (that was only agreed in 2016 because the SFA did SFA).

This insistence seemed fair enough at the time but after it was revealed in 2019 that PL was aware of the 5WA the question naturally arose why not tell shareholders in 2013 that the 5WA might prevent any investigation into compliance by SFA?

He probably never thought in 2013 the matter would get as far as 2019, but again Celtic’s insistence at the 2018 and 2019 AGMs that the SFA be left to investigate without Celtic interference rings hollow knowing about the CAS clause in the 5WA, which became public when Rangers were charged with non compliance in the monitoring period in May 2018.

Being a lot closer to the action I have no doubt that the Res12 narrative, A Story of Duplicity from Cradle to Grave covered below by Phil Macgiolla Bhain is correctly titled.

Read that and decide if the title : A Story of Disingenuous Behaviour from Cradle to Grave is more apt.

There were no comparable insolvency laws in 1893 so there is no precedent or indeed president from 1893.

    This one is total bollox!

It goes against natural justice to punish others for the crime of someone else. There is no provision in UEFA rules to take such a step.

At the very worst UEFA would have entered a Settlement Agreement with the SFA like they did with Serbia , Albania and Kazakhstan .

The one with Serbia can be read at https://editorial.uefa.com/resources/0258-0e2decb4cb2b-0f2205436fc5-1000/football_association_of_serbia_-_settlement_agreement_-_october_2018.pdf you can google for the others.

Or maybe he knew that if the SFA sank we went down with it!! in Europe we are the SFA – every kick we represent the SFA.

Every CL pound we have earned is only because the SFA choose us as their representative and if they are found out we might be liable to pay back.

  8. Watching the Hibbees-Hertz foulfest hoping Maloney gets his first win and that Somebody-Anybody ( that sounds familiar ) cements Devlin and Halliday. Still 0-0 after 60 minutes.

Thanks for the spelling correction but you may have noticed I got there first. My ASN teacher checked it for me – just as well.

You don’t realise this but you are no longer able to view this dispassionately. You are too invested. That’s why you use the very recent admin/ liquidation laws to dismiss the good old “bankrupt” Hibs. Same thing and you know it is.

  11. I’ve always been sympathetic to Raith Rovers ever since their previous Chairman courageously denounced the Doncaster/Regan attempt to shoehorn a Zombie Club into his league as “Corrupt.”

Their action yesterday on Goodwillie is breathtakingly blinkered. How on earth did they expect the directors in opposition, their sponsors and ladies team captain to react? Thank God for people with some principles.

  12. Ewan Henderson coming on for Hibs ( Oddly, Hertz have a sub with the same name ).

Hope Ewan doesn’t get injured. Euphemistically, this is a full blooded contest.

Livi losing. Would love them to be relegated, and for Hamilton and Killie to stay down.

Alternatively,as a professional league we should make it a prerequisite of entrance to the league that all football is played on grass.

  14. I recall years back having discussions with Auldheid, sometimes heated, about how the Celtic board were as bent as nine bob notes, fair play to him, till they showed their hand he always gave them the benefit of the doubt, but he always had a niggling feeling in the back of his mind that they were at it.

Eventually he saw the light and knew beyond any shadow of doubt that they only cared about the OF brand, and were truly at it, harsh but true.

Keep on keeping on Auldheid, if there is a more striving for justice deserving Celtic supporter in this realm than yourself I have yet to see or hear of one.

  15. Enjoyed that His game.No prisoners taken. Not much football, but the effort was immense.I like big Ryan.Good big Tim as well.Fair result.Referee Don Robertson refereed it well, showing its not bad refereeing with us,just bias.

  16. The time wasting by Hearts was noticeable by its absence. Hmm…

Also, quite like Atkinson, the Hearts right full back who came on as a sub against us and did pretty well against Jota. An Aussie too.
