Having Scott Brown in your corner

395

Over the weekend, Erik Sviatchenko spoke about Scott Brown as Celtic’s “fine minister” as the captain had authority to fine players who broke discipline.  In Erik’s instance, it was lateness.  Scott Brown has been Celtic’s first line of discipline since Neil Lennon’s first period in charge.  Young players were led by example, as more experienced players were given clear guidance of what was expected from them as a Celtic player.

Reprimanding a player for hitching a ride on a buggy intended for an injured colleague, as I once witnessed, requires oceans of respect from players and coaches alike.  This takes pressure off the manager, who can ration his use of discipline for more select matters, when its rarity has more effect.

Controlling a squad of several dozen well-paid athletes is a challenge when results are not going your way and there are campaigns against the manager.  Players cultivate all the wrong feelings when reading social media and pester their agents.  At these times, the manager’s voice can lose effect.  Scott Brown could not prevent our collapse this season but you do not need to think too hard to figure how heavily Neil Lennon and John Kennedy have relied on him.  Not that you will hear any of this from Scott.  I would have him in my corner before anyone else in football.

Yes I think our local CSC would be at war if Thierry Henry was even considered cheated Ireland out of a World Cup place, want him nowhere near Celtic Park!

Yes the Church Lane project, part of the Cathedral Quarter as well, we’ve become very posh now! It’s great the work done there to ensure the buildings survive, all we need now is for them to open up again, would love to see it as a crafts centre, similar to the one in Derry, we also need visitors, hopefully you and many others will return soon!

    Hail, hail!

On a similar if different response to the question, I was asked for an in house, works magazine which did profiles on staff each edition loads of questions and the last question was,

‘if you could invite any 4 people, living or dead, to dinner who would you ask?’

My immediate response was my 4 grandparents, I’d answer the same now and also ask for my wee mammy to join us! I only remember one of my four grandparents and she died when I was a wee boy, I’d love to spend time with them and also hear what they sound like! Nobody famous, just family…

“Bolingoli has to be the most scapegoated player in Scottish football. His forced punishment to appease seems so unfair now.”

I never really thought of that before but I totally agree.

As in Glenveagh National Park? If so, no. I do know there has been a public consultation on the use of the Park and its amenities recently but I’d imagine that the National Park legislation (I’m open to correction) would not allow a golf course to be built there even if they if they wanted it?

  15. Imagine signing a manager that had 2 teams relegated in the same season, no even sevco would have done that.

  16. SCULLYBHOY on 30TH MARCH 2021 8:59 AM

Not sure. I think this must be one of those rare occasions where Nicholas has a point.

I agree that we need to take our time to get the right appointment but surely that’s within reason.

It’s been said that Lennon wasn’t removed in October/November because there were no other suitable candidates so it must’ve been on their minds since then. That’s nearly five months. If it’s taking this long, it’d better be worth the wait because I already make Sevco solid favorites for next year and that thought becomes stronger with each passing week.

Is Scott on a Sabbatical to look and learn

And come back as leader or large part of our new management team

thanks for the kind words fellas

Maybe but from what we know of Broonie, I don’t think he’ll be looking at it that way. He’ll give Aberdeen and the role respect, be fully professional and get his teeth into the new job. Us supporters and the media will be speculating on “stepping stones” but for now, I’m not sure that’s how he’ll approach it.

I take your point and the MSM are having a field day toying with our frustration. But, maybe the new football structure being set in place is part of the delay. ‘Just guessing like’.

Took the SFA 10 days to ban Bolingoli

Rangers 5 it took the SFA 45 days to conclude the case, consistency is the byword for SFA governance, any suggestion that the following was taken into consideration is just paranoia, Rangers were still in E/L, Club Captain Injured, hadn’t clinched SPFL title.

Celtic FC need a new aggressive approach to SFA governance what do we have to lose

    Very good, factual post. Respect.

Sevco kids inevitably banned from dead rubbers following a lengthy gap between violation and punishment.

The contrast in treatment of rule breakers in these instances couldn’t be clearer.
