Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

  1. I find it absolutely hilarious that Alasdair/Alastair (Cheeky Chappie ad infinitum) has gone (Surprisingly quickly) from…

“He has a battle plan. I don’t have any doubt he’ll tell me what it is as he has a plan for every scenario whether we win the tax case or lose the tax case…

“We both have different ways of trying to achieve that. I can totally understand his position and I understand my position but we both have the same target.

“His way is to ensure it isn’t to the detriment of the club and I completely agree as the club’s welfare is the most important thing.

“I can understand why giving me the money from the sale of Jelavic isn’t in the best interest of the club. I’m not daft…

  2. Nephew plays with Glasgow band called The Meatmen but they are doing a couple of months playing clubs in Morocco. This is what happened to them. There are photos and youtube stuff but just posting this as yet another example how The Hoops are welcome wherever they are seen.

“We went to the Casablanca Raja match yesterday and this is what happend…..

We were treated like superstars, all because we had Celtic shirts on. Applauded by fans on our way into the ground, then when we took our seats, a chant of ‘Celtic Glasgow’ spread round a huge section of the stadium. We spent the whole of half-time posing for photographs, people wanting pictures of us holding their flags, parents wanting pictures of us holding their children. It then took us over 30 minutes to exit the stadium at full-time as we were asked to pose for yet more photo’s and then finally we were even interviewed for T.V. Absolutely unbelievable! “

Looking forward to press revelations this week….

and enjoying a change in media views already!

Suddenly the herald/ scotland on sunday/similar broadsheets seem to be gathering a storm against the sectarian singing yesterday – about time!!!!

Wasn’t it recent enough when they were all turning a deaf ear to it all.

Celtic fans were in top voice today!!!

A massive result all round – the players, the fans and oor Lenny…… all showed themselves as they are – real Gentlemen, committed to the Mighty Glasgow Celtic.

  5. LPF yet…..?

Hard to judge given the way we set about them from the off today.

Thompshun really couldn’t do much about that performance today.

Even they all know the games a–bogey.

With such a dramatic change in the officiating of yesterday’s match tho at the IRA, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that those wretches have screwed us over bigtime these past few years [as if I ever doubted it]

Could somebody explain why Ticketus have lent the MBB 24 million with season tickets as security?

If Rangers are liquidated, then these season tickets must be worthless.

    Pete,

it’s not a loan. Ticket released a statement via the PA two days ago clarifying the position as follows:

“Ticketus does not lend money; Ticketus is the owner of assets – the tickets, Octopus Investments would like to clarify the position of Ticketus with regard to the current Glasgow Rangers coverage. Ticketus is one of the many entities into which Octopus Protected EIS invests. Ticketus has purchased tickets for Glasgow Rangers games for a number of seasons in advance, as it has done for a number of years previously with the club.”

Ragers have effectively sold the rights to issue season tickets for the next few years to Ticketus.

Best ever away game for me was Love Street 86, Celtic absolutely battered St Mirren and a man called Albert Kidd

was making himself a hero to Celtic and Hibs fans alike. That game also included one of the best goals from a flowinf team move I’ve ever seem.

I have enjoyed the past week so much. I love looking back and remembering all the hard times we have had in the past few years, and other years.

Getting beat at CP for them to win the league and doing the Huddle in front of us, getting beat at Motherwell on Black Sunday to hand it to them, getting beat up at Inverness to hand it to them, listening to them singing about Lenny, feeling utterly horrible every time they won the league the last 3 years….

    ————————–

HI CB, Totall agree.I have been enjoying this so much, but also in the context of so many painful memories from various Orc regimes of the 90s and noughties.

    Some of the worst memories:

    1. Neil McCann cupping his ear in celebration when scoring at CP in the league decider (late 90s)

    2. Agree, the mock huddle celebration was especially noxious and arrogant

    3. Gaza’s breakaway goal at bigot dome following a missed chance from celtic

    4. Cadete’s dissallowed goal (I personally know that the linesman in that match chopped it off cause he was a hun)

    5. The overall impression of Thatcherite rigth wing arrogance thought the Souness years

I could go on… but yes I think all Celtic fans especially those who suffered through the 90s and had to watch them make big signings makes the present time so enjoyable. I’m a reasonable man, but that lot put us through too much for us to be like sympathetic.

Spot on. We really need to start planning for all scenarios, but in particular how can we consolidate our own position in regard to European football while the huns are out of the picture.

Agree with you on the press position too. Nothing to do with bias and everything to do with paying for the kids private school fees.

I don’t think this current squad, good as they are, will take us any further than say WGS’s teams did. The problem for our board is judging investing the right amount to push further in Europe, with out over stretching ourselves, especially given all the adjustment that will take place post delinquent FC (in administration).

Focus will need to be as strong at home as a abroad. We need to contribute to helping other teams move up a notch as a weak league will be counterproductive to our European ambitions. Just look at The Little Genitals big spend strategy to get minty the big cup and that’s a major contributor to where they are now. Perhaps if TLG didn’t have such an easy ride domestically and had to fight for every win, his team might have gone further than they did? For a club our size to make it into the upper echelons of Europe then we have to fight and work hard to get there. Strolls in the park ain’t proper preparation for that competition.

We are in a fantastic position, no matter what happens to the delinquents now, so let’s get planning.

Thanks for the repleis about Ticketus – I assume they know what they’re doing!

My take on it is – the fact they dealt with Rangers makes them suspect.

  13. The room is almost dark. Almost. The glow from the CD player’s display seeps out. If you were to look closely, you could make out the fact that a track is on repeat. James Blunt’s Wisemen. The tune haunts the room. Over and above the tune there is a constant drone. Domestic familiarity. A hum. An incantation of sorts. The ‘bing’ of the bell interrupts. But the drone soon follows again as Ally places another Rustlers microwave burger in. He has eaten seven already. There are six more ready to be heated. But he smiles knowing he has four boxes in his garage. He stands like some atavistic bhudda wearing only a pair of socks and clad in his fleecy robe. His phone, on silent, vibrates across the worktop. He grabs it quickly, expectant of the tag Whytey. But no. Darryl King. Ally sighs and bites deeply into his burger…

Sky would usually show you the crowd or outside on the pitch before kickoff while the pundits talked – but they never went outside the studio of Collins (still a Celtic man), mCCann and Wishart? Could the sectarian singing angle help prevent title decider, another 10-15 point deduction?

If they keep deducting points, we will need to let them spread the reduction over the next five years.

Oh maybe not, there is an obvious flaw in that plan.
