Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

the more desperate peple become..the more they revert to type..I’m really enjoying hearing the sectarian anti-catholic bile the Huns are belting out…the more they sign the deeper they sink..the deeper they sink the more they sing..until finally they disappear..singing while they drown and finally ..choke to death on their own bile.

    Let’s recap:

Last Saturday, 3pm, we’re leading the league by one point

    Last Saturday, 5pm, 4 points

Monday, they intend to go into administration

Tuesday, they go into administration, 14 points

    Saturday, they lose to Killie

Today, we win 5-0, 17 points

The only way it could have been better would have been if we had beaten them 5-0. Never mind. I’m happy the way it is :-)

    very very true

compare and contrast their big day yesterday, about not walking away, and showing the world what “The Rangers were all about”…4 minutes after kick off the sectarian bile was poring out

Last game of last season Paradise learned that Killie were 3 down after 7 minutes – and then we had our party – the huddle, song s about Celtic, Lennon, Mjallby, Parker and every other player got a mention that day

and yet Scottish football needs them

Spot on. We really need to start planning for all scenarios, but in particular how can we consolidate our own position in regard to European football while the huns are out of the picture………………………………………….

Agree with you on the press position too. Nothing to do with bias and everything to do with paying for the kids private school fees……………..

Cheers rico, In politics or corporate world they call it ‘war game scenario’ planning. I would expect the Celtic board to be ‘war gaming’ some of the main likely scenarios from the deliquents FC fallout. In fairness to the press I think most people would try and protect their livliehood and profession from reduced work or growth; I think the deliquents FC is a major blow to the media and is a real threat in terms of their self-interested motivation to rebuild the orcs when they hit ground zero.

I think Celtic need to gently start to build alliances with the other SPL teams, a fairers SPL with a radical 16 team league could inject a refreshing boost while deliquents FC regroup. As much as I would like them to go out of existence, sadly I think the ‘too big to fail’ mantra will save them from comple oblivion, so Celtic must have a very radical and innovative strategy during the years of reduced circumstances for the Orcs so that when they do come back, both ourselves the other city SPL clubs are stronger. This could actually dramatically improve Scottish football, and I think the Celtic board will have a major say in that.

  8. Tom English’s article on the attempted signing of Cousin has been much discussed today.

I’ve been sniggering at an earlier piece of his, in which he questions why Alasdair Johnston was so suspicous about Craig Whyte (from April 2011):

“Unless he’s a complete madman – spending millions on getting rid of Lloyds and Murray and then not bothering to invest in the business he has just bought – then we must assume that he is going to do what he says. He has hung his reputation on delivering what he has said. What is Johnston thinking? That Whyte will take control of the club and then go, “HaHa! Fooled ye all! I don’t have another bob to my name! We’re all going down in flames!

The financial assistance prohibition on public companies and their subsidiaries continues to apply.

Currently, and until 1st October 2008, subject to certain exceptions, private and public companies are prohibited from giving financial assistance for the purpose of the acquisition of its shares or shares of its holding company. Private companies can use the whitewash procedure in sections 155 to 158 to sanction the giving of financial assistance. This involves, among other things, special resolution approval, a directors’ solvency declaration and an auditor’s report.

In transactions this financial assistance is generally seen as:

A target group lending some or all of the purchase price to newco/acquirer

A target group providing security/guarantees in favour of deferred consideration

A target group providing security/guarantees to support finance facilities for the purpose of the acquisition

A target group discharging fees associated with an acquisition

Went to the shop to get ice cream. My daughter asked me to get her sweets – anything.

I picked up the stuff and went to the counter. The guy gives me a funny look and then when he sees I look puzzled, he relaxes and bags the goods.

It wasn’t until I left the shop that I had a look in the bag and realised I had a bag of jelly snakes and ice cream.

    ‘moonbeams of success’

  18. re Champs League Qualification…

We’ll be, as stated previously, in the Champions Route for qualification.

From those teams likely to qualify, the following have a better seeding than us:

    Basel

Belgian entrant (all 3 of Anderlecht, Standard and Club Brugge have better seeding)

However Steaua Bucuresti and APOEL Nicosia are still in Europe and can both overtake us if they get 6 and 2 points respectively (3 wins and 1) – both are 1-0 down from the first leg of their respective ties, Steaua have to go away to Twente, APOEL home to Lyon. I’d expect neither to overcome these obstacles and would remain happy for that to be the outcome. In any case, neither ‘look’ like winning their league this season.

    Anyway, what does this mean?

Well, in the first round that we play in, Round 3, we will be in with 19 other teams in our section, of which we’ll be guaranteed to have a better seeding than at least 15 other teams, but likely better than 17 of them.

We will be seeded in that round.

The fourth round is simply a further thinning out of the previous round, with no additional teams added to our section, i.e. no Arsenal, Benfica etc, like there is in Motherwell’s section. So, using the same seeding system, we will be seeded for the 4th round too.

    Who will we get?

In the 3rd round, anyone really from countries ranked about 45th to 18th or so (depending on who wins each league, the seedings will change) – no team that’s played in round one has progressed beyond round two since the new format was introduced a few years ago.

Clubs to look out for include:

    Helsingborg (already qualified)

    Shamrock Rovers (already qualified)

BATE Borisov (already qualified – BATE will definitely be seeded for this round after a few relatively successful seasons, so we can discount them)

Śląsk Wrocław/Polonia Warsaw/Legia Warsaw from Poland

MŠK Žilina/Slovan Bratislava (the latter is managed by Vladimir Weiss snr, who managed Artmedia in July 2005)

In the 4th round it will be a case of playing the same manner of teams, only the better ones – BATE Borisov might be unseeded for this round (would need Steaua to get another 3 coeff pts and win the Romanian League), we might want to avoid them at such an early stage of the season as they will be halfway through theirs. To qualify for this season’s CL, they knocked out Linfield, Ekranas and Sturm Graz in the Champions route and are currently going for 7 league titles in a row. I think they will be seeded anyway.

Full list of unseeded teams from the last three years in rnd 4:

2011/12 – Rubin Kazan, FC Zurich, OB Odense, Trabzonspor, FC Vaslui

2010/11 – Rosenborg, RB Salzburg, Partizan Belgrade, MŠK Žilina, Sheriff Tiraspol

2009/10 – RB Salzburg, APOEL Nicosia, Ventspils, Debrecen, Sherif Tiraspol

Whatever happens and whoever we get, even of those seeded, I expect us to be feasting, nay, dining on the most succulent milk-fed lamb with the rest of the hoi-polloi of European Football come the middle of September.

It would be illegal Financial Assistance if they granted security over their assets to help fund the purchase of its own shares. Eg if they granted security to Ticketus in exchange for the money used to buy the club.

However, purchase consideration was only £1 and I am not sure whether buying existing debt gets taken into account – Id guess it does, but am not certain

The administrators said the other day though that Ticketus does NOT have security as such. They have said that Ticketus actually OWN the season tickets, but not sure how that works.

The extract above suggests that 2008 was the end date for Financial Assistance being prohibited, but that date only applies to private companies.

It CONTINUES to be illegal for public companies eg der Hun
