How administrators can avoid redundancies short-term

1072

There have been many questions about the unusual circumstance in football of Rangers going into administration but not making any players redundant.  It is possible, and not totally uncommon, for directors of a company in administration to arbitrarily choose to provide funds from their own resources to pay any chosen creditor, including staff. In football, players’ contracts of employment need to be with the club, but the source of payment can come from anywhere.

In this instance, Rangers Group, the club’s holding company, or any other body or person, could be in sufficient funds to provide the administrators with enough money to not only pay players, but to continue operating in a relatively normal state.  Rangers’ administrators have already suggested Craig Whyte has guaranteed to make-good wages due to be paid this week, although it was not made clear which entity would be paying, or the source of such funds.

Administrators will only be forced into player redundancies if they do not have sufficient funds available to see them through to the timely conclusion of negotiations with creditors, or if they are unable to receive binding undertakings from another source that they will step forward to pay players next month.

Various sources over the weekend suggested HM Revenue and Customs were prepared to extend generous time to pay terms to Rangers.  This club is owned by Craig Whyte.  While we all know what a stand-up guy Craig is, how likely to you think HMRC are to believe he will stick to a plan stretching out years into the future?  It’s just not going to happen.

I hear a ‘We’ll take a few years to pay too’ campaign is set to trickle through the SPL if HMRC agree to this one.  Better using the tax man as a bank than using an actual bank.

Their defence might have stopped lesser mortals!!!

That’s true! Yes, Hooper and Stokesy up front are by far the best partnership in Scotland, and would be up there with the best in Britain IMO

Anyway, I’m off, see you later folks!

Btw, on quiz duties on Friday, I’m thinking a party theme??? Winner gets jelly and ice cream …..

  3. I have been reading with interest the debate about what would happen to Scottish Football if Rankers were booted out the SPL , and , the satellite channels decided to pull the plug.

I won’t pretend my research is 100% robust, but , based upon published viewing data, I decided to de a wee bit of homework using BARB

For the period , I reviewed, a typical EPL match attracted a viewing audience of around 1.75million e.g, week ending 8th January the viewing figures varied from 1.4 million on the Monday, 1.768 on the Tuesday and 1 .954 on the Wednesday. I have no idea who was playing in those games, mainly because I am too lazy to research , but I am sure you get the idea.

By comparison , the same week, figures for Scottish games were

Peterhead vs Celtic 298 k viewers

    Hibs vs Hearts 260k

    Arbroath vs Rankers 247 k

Also, the previous week’s game at Celtic Park vs Rankers drew an audience of 851 k , which was about 75% of the Average EPL viewing figures in the same week , and about 30% higher than West Ham vs Birmingham.

    So , my point is

I suspect we all know, that even a Celtic Vs Rankers game doesn’t achieve the same viewing figures as a run of the mill EPL game – no surprise there

What is of interest is the proportional viewing figures :The last time I looked Scotland had around 9% of the UK population

Here is where the maths and hypothesis comes in.

If approximately 1.75m watch a typical EPL game, then this equates to 2.8 % of the UK population watching an EPL game. Using the EPL viewing figure as an index, proportionally we should therefore expect .252 % of the UK population to watch a Scottish game.

But, and I recognise I am only looking at a snapshot, approximately .44% of the population watched the Scottish games ….excluding the Celtic vs Rankers game.

Indeed, the Celtic vs Rankers game was watched by considerably more than the ‘expected share’.

In summary, if the average EPL game was getting viewing figures of 1.75 m , then the Scottish games should get about 160k viewers, but, in reality the average was around 270k, and in one instance it was 851k.

Conclusion – we have heard lots of talk in the last week about the importance of Celtic vs Rankers to TV deals .

If the EPL Receives around £700m / season, by rights, based on the above, Scottish Football should be getting at least 5 times the current money….and that excludes the Celtic vs Rankers game.

Can Scottish football survive without Rankers – do the math !!!

I reckon EVERY school should work along the same ethos as an RC school.

I’ve worked in both, and the ethos in RC schools is phenomenal.

    A truly inclusive, supportive atmosphere.

Non denominational schools couldn’t do the religious worship bit, but could work towards the sense of community, tolerance and high expectations the the RC schools live and breathe

Is there any substance to this morning’s story in The Scotsman that the SPL Board will give In Administration FC a cash advance on TV money if they need it complete their fixtures?

    ____________________________________

More than likely they will – did likewise for Gretna to allow them to complete their season’s fixtures.

Would have meant clubs still to play them would have lost out on home fixture; gate receipts, hospitality, sponsorship etc.

Would be less disruptive to those clubs that pay their taxes!

    My tribute to voguepunter:

The quality of mercy is not strained.

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven

Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:

It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes

The throned monarch better than his crown.

His scepter shows the force of temporal power,

The attribute to awe and majesty,

Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings.

    But mercy is above this sceptered sway;

    It is enthroned in the hearts of kings;

    It is an attribute of God himself;

And earthly power doth then show like God’s

    When mercy seasons justice.

    No mercy to the huns!

    2 questions:

I love calling the huns for what they are: huns! So…

Why do the scarves with the “H*ns are going bust” message exclude the letter U from the word h*ns?

Why is awe-naw being nice to everyone?

My world has been tipped upside down in a nice way for a while now but I find his recent behaviour extremely disorientating and a trifle disappointing. I liked the angry, mad, bad and funny awe-naw. Please come back!

Not surprisingly, this was a poorly attended event at this particular location, but sitting in the flickering darkness I was captivated.

I would like us to look beyond the present stramash across the river and start to plan the kind of Celtic we want fr years to come. I think there is much to be said about returning to our tradition of raising our own players. I would like to see us with Celtic teams of 6/7 home grown talent and the rest of quality signings. We cannot compete with the Premiership in the transfer market but we have a positive global image and talented scouts and coaches who can compensate for that. Think of THE LISBON LIONS OF YESTERYEAR and Porto of to-day. It can be done!
