Illusive focus should return to Celtic

287

Highlights from Easter Road on Saturday suggest Hibs are very much in the hunt for second place.  Aberdeen have the experience to finish Best of the Rest, but it is disappointing performances like that against Hibs which have given Celtic carte blanche to experiment with the squad so regularly in the league this season.

While Brendan Rodgers will only have thoughts for Zenit right now, Derek McInnes will be planning how to deploy against Celtic on Sunday.  The Aberdeen manager has tried and failed many times to get the better of Celtic in recent seasons, which is not the inhibitor it might seem to be.  He knows what does not work and what not to try.  This week’s discussion matter at Pittodrie will be whether Aberdeen can do what half the teams in the league have already done and take points from Celtic.

As far as the Champions are concerned, stacking big games back-to-back will bring out the best in them.  An away game at St Petersburg before heading marginally south to Aberdeen will bring a focus to the club which has been elusive recently.

not sure plenary indulgences can be said to ensure that someone goes down, instead of up …. although, I am sure that, if they are available, they would probably be more expensive than the regular ones … and a very big seller.

This is one of those ‘Paul on the Road to Damascus’ moments!

I am feeling a new church has just been borne … The Church of the Eternal Damnation (for your mean boss, MiL…. whoever)….

Come in, say a few prayer, and pay the appropriate (not so) modest stipend of course, and ( MiL, boss ….. fill in as appropriate) goes to the firey place forever …..

I’m not sure if this makes me a counter Reformationist, or a counter- Counter Reformationist …. but, I bet a church like this would make an absolute fortune.

  8. BMCUW,

Sorry maybe I am not making myself clear.

It is not about just about Sevco.

It is about Celtic having to accept a league set up that can, and has, and will again produce a corruption of fair play, i.e. some clubs playing more home than away matches, while some play more away fixtures than home.

Having accepted that abomination as set up, with all the opportunities for manipulation, that you, BMCUW, seem to accept also, my point is,

What chance of fair play and transparency in the more subtle nuances of say referee appointments, decisions, honest mistakes, allegiances to certain clubs, that regularly seem to attempt to adversely affect our club’s dominance.

It is not by chance that Beaton performed as he did on Sunday, IMO.

Some on here can cite 50 years plus of similar examples.

Maybe I am just saying what Jock Stein knew those 50 odd years ago,

Celtic need to score more goals, more often, so the referee cannot influence our matches.

While not excusing Celtic’s ineptitude on Sunday, our significantly weakened line up allowed Beaton the opportunity to allow the St Johnstone agricultural approach to prosper.

And we can do here haw about it because we, as a club, have (been forced to?), accept this as a norm.

  16. TRT wrote yesterday…(they) want us to believe they sent a man to the moon in 1969 in a cramped spaceship, where the computer would have to had been at least twice or thrice the size of the wee spaceship owing to the computers they had at their disposal in 1969…

They also want us to believe that Charles Lindbergh flew a plane in1927, on the first solo non-stop transatlantic flight from Long Island, New York, to Paris, France. Imagine the size of the computer he must have had to make such a journey 90 years ago! It would have had to be the size of a Jumbo Jet considering the size of the computers they had back then. And planes were only 24 years old at the time, younger even than Lindbergh!

And Cook and Magellan and Columbus! Sailed the worlds oceans? Centuries ago? in boats driven by nothing but the wind? No chance! Their computes would have been enormous . . . and made of wood!

I’m being trite obviously but the topic is less so.

Carl Sagan wrote a book “The Demon Haunted World – Science as a Candle in the Dark”. Two specific chapters in that book deal with this topic: The Dragon in my Garage and The Fine Art of Baloney Detection. This book is one of my all time favourites. I would suggest that everyone get a copy and scrutinize it.

Good stuff but I feel you have overlooked the fact that Brendan is a Celtic fan, first and foremost. The guy has as much money as he and his family need, so why change. To use an overused phrase, he IS living the dream and to guide his and our beloved club for another decade or more must be a challenge and a half, one which could see him doing for us, the same as Fergie did at Man. United. There again , I could be talking crap.

who knows what the future holds?

But, if I am right, and he leaves, I think we still should be good enough to win 10 in a row. And if BR goes on to great success elsewhere, I will be happy for Celtic and fvor BR.

and if you are right, and he wins 10 in a row with Celtic, it will be what he wanted, and I will be happy for BR and Celtic.
