Illusive focus should return to Celtic

287

Highlights from Easter Road on Saturday suggest Hibs are very much in the hunt for second place.  Aberdeen have the experience to finish Best of the Rest, but it is disappointing performances like that against Hibs which have given Celtic carte blanche to experiment with the squad so regularly in the league this season.

While Brendan Rodgers will only have thoughts for Zenit right now, Derek McInnes will be planning how to deploy against Celtic on Sunday.  The Aberdeen manager has tried and failed many times to get the better of Celtic in recent seasons, which is not the inhibitor it might seem to be.  He knows what does not work and what not to try.  This week’s discussion matter at Pittodrie will be whether Aberdeen can do what half the teams in the league have already done and take points from Celtic.

As far as the Champions are concerned, stacking big games back-to-back will bring out the best in them.  An away game at St Petersburg before heading marginally south to Aberdeen will bring a focus to the club which has been elusive recently.

  3. Not usually one for sharing of personal grief but I’ve read others appreciating CQN responses to their losses and it does help.

Thanks so much for the kind wishes and prayers.

  5. If BR doesn,t get this team sorted we can forget 10 IAR . In fact 7IAR is no given . Make no mistake ,I am not bothered about them , but I am concerned about the increase in the effect of the MIBS . Clancy at Kilmarnock was at it , Beaton on Sunday was so blatant , I could tell early on we weren’t going to be allowed to win , although the performance from the team confirmed it . I am in the minority here but ,imho these euro ties are now a distraction , had we not been playing in Russia tomorrow we wouldn,t have fielded that team on Sunday , is this one hell of a gamble . I want to see our best possible team out on the park , I want to see more bottle from the team , broony excluded . And when fit a return of the griff . It would also be a bonus if our club to for once , took a stance and made themselves heard regards the ref involvement , the fat controller and his laptop loyal,s denigration of our club , Get them out and keep them out . We are told the club has proof of hampden help for Sevco . Doesn,t look like it to me , if your caught with your hand in the cookie jar , you don’t go back for a while , hampden are rubbing our noses in it , they are telling us we can’t hurt them . If that’s the case my 60 years of watching the hoops will end , rant over .

  7. Does anyone seriously think Gazprom St Gazprom are going out tomorrow night?

C’mon, you will be telling me Uefa is a straight organisation next. Just like the SFA.

  8. I see Firmino won’t be charged by FA over his abusing Holgate at the Everton game – lack of proof – not balance of probability

Watched a bit of the Man U game. Players from both sides going down with the slightest touch and rolling around, imaginary yellow cards being waved around too, every time.

Fitba used to be a right manly sport.

I expect the referee to earn his bonus early in the game.

Red card in first 20 mins should be enough to give Gazprom the edge.

The game is corrupt home and away.

I see Charlie (the thinker) Nicholas is predicting Celtic to go out tomorrow. Now there’s a surprise.

He predicted we would lose the first leg too. Willie Wonka.

  12. And I firmly believe referees are on the take.

    No proof.

Just canny believe what my eyes see.

  14. I quite like the split.

It’s certainly preferable to playing 17 teams twice (like during our 9) or playing 9 teams 4 times (like when the Premier League was initially set up).

These options led to far too many games against cannon fodder.

What has caused the issue here is that Sevco’ s fixture list for the first quarter in their first season in top flight football improbably gave them no away fixtures against Celtic, Aberdeen, Hibs or Hearts.

    Imagine that!

So, their first visits to Parkhead or Pittodrie weren’t until December.

This, of course, should have given them a great chance to make a strong start. However, they lost 3-2 to Hibs, drew 0-0 with Hearts and lost 2-0 to Celtic.

    Not a great start then.

They then lost 2-0 to Hamilton and 3-1to St Johnstone before the winter break.

Maybe next season the fixtures will be reversed – as it seems to have been disadvantageous to them!

Sorry for the long post, but I enjoyed typing out all those results!

I really hope Sevilla get a goal here. I’ve never heard such an arrogant and biased commentary in my life.
