Impartial executive, 25 years from Farry to Doncaster

153

I remember when football was all about what happened on the park and the only subterfuge we needed to worry about wore a black shirt.  Then came Jim Farry, Scottish Football League boss and then SFA boss.

Sure, the SFA tried to hammer Celtic for flying the Irish flag in 1952 and they promoted referees from a well-curated list, but that was the end of it.  Farry was a visionary.  He understood his predecessors in charge at the SFA were not thinking clearly enough.  Farry would change that.

Celtic signed Jorge Cadete from Sporting Lisbon in February 1996 but Jim Farry delayed processing the registration.  The player was not able to make his Celtic debut until April, missing crucial league games and a Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers.  Celtic complained, Farry was sacked, and we got to see what many of us knew all along.  The shock was the sacking.

Football has come a long way in the subsequent 25 years.  The real power in the game now rest with the SPFL, who consumed the Scottish Football League and see more control sit with top tier clubs.  For 12 years, the SPFL has been led by a former solicitor from Devon with no skin in the parochial nature of Scottish football.  Neil Doncaster supports Norwich, although he’s not even that bothered about them.

SPFL board meetings are chaired by former media executive, Murdoch MacLennan.  The curious thing about MacLennan and Doncaster is that neither favoured either Oldco or Newco versions of Rangers.  This irritates Newco no end, who would like both removed from office.

With 10 of the 12 Premiership clubs asking for games to be postponed instead of proceeding behind closed doors, we should be grateful for a firm hand on the executive tiller.  The executive will seek to implement the wish of the majority of affected clubs.  Power in our game was not always impartial and may not be so again one day.

Let’s hope for a positive result on and off the park today.

  1. I do NOT want Kyogo to go anywhere near a Sevco player, especially Moreloes if they are on the ground far less ” Pick One Up”…knowing those cheating Bassa’s that are Sevco. they will roll about and claim that Kyogo assaulted them !

At the very least they will push Kyogo away and start a rammy….and get Kyogo sent aff.

Big Ange and others should TELL Kyogo to NOT go near any of them in any game against THEM !

  2. Craig Whyte appears at court for failing to provide key passwords for seized devices

In a prosecution brought by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Craig Whyte has been charged with failing to provide passwords for various laptops and phones.

Mr Whyte appeared today at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court, having been arrested at Manchester Airport yesterday at the request of the FCA by officers from Greater Manchester Police.

The arrest is in relation to non-disclosure of key passwords for various laptops and phones, which were seized from him by a warrant issued under s176 Financial Services & Markets Act 2000 on the 18 April 2018.

Mr Whyte was charged with failing to comply with a Statutory Notice issued under Section 49 Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA 2000). This is the first prosecution by the FCA in relation to this offence.

Mr Whyte has indicated a plea of not guilty and elected for trial in the Crown Court. Mr Whyte was granted conditional bail.

  3. Off topic but I was just thinking that i associate so many old LPs with Christmas although they weren’t Christmas releases.

I guess it shows what I used to ask for at Christmas when I was a teenager rifling through the record shops.

Imagine having to wait for months to get records!

Think of one now, get on Spotify or similar and you’re listening to it, practically for free, within seconds.

I think I miss the waiting and I’m going to make a point if listening to some albums start to finish over the holidays.

Now, get back to winter breaks, masonic conspiracy, SNP good or evil, covid related football crazy surrealism. And be glad of it.

  4. The huns want to play games behind closed doors, can anyone work this out?? They should be asked why…..

Your reply is not based on fact – the vast majority (85%+) concern Celtic. I know why you and some others gripe – it’s the content, not, the quantity of some of my posts, that hits a nerve!!

Looks like you’ve ‘jumped on the bandwagon’. I post without fear, or favour. I stick to the rules and cannot be inTIMidated.

i was at a loose end the day after the Scotland v Israel game and went into Missing Records on Oswald St. Picked up an original of See You by Depeche Mode. I had wanted in at the time in 82 but by the time i had the cash, it was out the shops. Now i can pretend i always had it

  7. I sympathise with St Mirren if they are required to play tonight.

I believe the games should be curtailed thereafter.

Risk benefit analysis suggests we shouldn’t play on the 26th.

There is simply no argument for playing into early January.

  9. I want to play St Mirren tonight and I want us to win.

I doubt I would pass any Morality Test with those wishes but three points tonight are what I want.

Our team has suffered more than most via Covid.

Anybody know when we can expect the SPFL decision?

Hope they do the right thing . If they don’t it will only be further proof that Sevco run Scottish football .

  11. Compare the worst winter since 1946/47 tae a lethal life threatening virus. You don’t get vaccinated over cauld weather.

The winter of 1962-63 was one of the coldest Britain has known. After a week of catastrophic, lung-clogging smog in early December in which many hundreds of people lost their lives; snow began to fall on Boxing Day 1962 … and did not stop for the next ten weeks.

With blizzards, treacherous ice and temperatures lower than minus 20C, at times the entire country was paralysed. Airplanes were grounded, trains, lorries and cars came to a halt.

Animals struggled to survive. Many people, especially the elderly, were confined to their homes. Schools were closed. Families were separated, unable to travel to see each other in such exceptional weather. With an exchange of a lethal virus for freezing temperatures, the upheaval of 1962-63 is reflected uncannily

Sport was disrupted tae in the UK. Football matches in the English and Scottish leagues suffered because of the severe effects of the winter weather.

Some matches in the 1962–63 FA Cup with tie scores were rescheduled 10 or more times. Matches in the 5th and 6th rounds scheduled for 16 February and 9 March were played on 16 and 30 March.

A board known as the Pools Panel was set up to adjudicate postponed matches to provide the football pool results. From 8 December to 16 February, Bolton Wanderers played no competitive matches.

Both codes of rugby, union and league, suffered much the same fate. The delays in 1962–1963 occurred before under-soil heating became widespread at major venues.

When the thaw arrived, a backlog of fixtures had to be hastily determined. The football league season was extended by four weeks from its original finishing date of 27 April. The final league fixtures (scheduled sports events) took place one day before the rescheduled FA Cup Final. Some lower-level competitions did not complete the season.

National Hunt horse racing was also affected by the weather. Ninety-four meetings were cancelled during the freeze. There was no racing in England between 23 December and 7 March, although a meeting at Ayr in Scotland occurred on 5 January.

6 March was the first morning of the year without frost in Britain. Temperatures rose to 17 C (62.6 F) and the remaining snow disappeared.

Interesting tae note that the ponies were curtailed before other sports, as my da said at the time, there was more concern over the gee gees than the men and boys out there playing their sports.

  12. note that the snp always deal in 3 week periods

they think it sounds better then a month

they say they’ll review but really they just rubber stamp the additional weeks

  13. Glen D- votes in by 5pm,then lobbying and blackmail, be surprised if we hear anything tonight.

  14. Nobody had any sympathy for Celtic, we didn’t complain when we were told to play a team of reserves on the basis of one player testing positive. St Mirren have x number of players out, and they signed up to the same rules and are effectively contracted to field a team.

The winter break is a separate issue and nothing to do with breaching Covid guidelines

    IMO CSC

  15. Scottish football politics, that´s the game.

I am against knighthoods but Fergus McCann deserves recognition for his services to football in Scotland. His tenacity and determination in seeing off Farry was outstanding. I take my bunnet off to him.

SPFLers Doncaster and McLellan are an improvement on the SFA Ogilvies and others of more recent times. But they must always be accountable.

Celtic need to be pro active to engage with clubs, to do the business talking behind the scenes with minimum media meddling.

  17. when I mentioned the Union Flag Title gift from 1894

someone mentioned the Hibs fans having their own version the Green, White and Black

they have been flying them for years, easily since early 80s and the rise of the casual movement.

their crew being particulalry active and mental.

i asked a leither (celtic fan)i worked with in Livinstone why they flew it, his brother being a top boy for hibs.

it was as simple as a big piss take to hertz and rangers (and celtic) that hibs were the top crew in britain.

now moving on , having searched for celtic and union jack, this monstosity popped up in my adverts.

    So tonight goes ahead.

We need to stay focused and just win.

I genuinely have some sympathy for St Mirren and that will continue .. if we win.

    Ideal scenario for me ….

Vote carries to postpone league after boxing day

(I assume that is the preferred proposal)?

    Celtic win tonight

Their game on Sunday is cancelled.

PS – to the guys on here worried about the league being called now?

    Respectfully, I wouldn’t sweat it

    Too few games played.

With world cup taking place later in the year, there is no direct time pressure to extending this season into early summer to finish fixtures.

“Players would be knackered from continuous football” I hear you cry?

First thing you have ever posted I agree with. It is the content of your posts that annoys others, generally it’s the lies and racism.

Equating 50% of Scots with nazis certainly pissed me off.

Vote for the socialist / workers party with a leader and deputy leader that

100% of Celtic FC’s enemies are 100% terrified of professionally etc etc.

If you vote for liars, you’ll be lied to.

If you vote for assholes, you’ll be dumped on!

If you don’t think, you’ll be outthought.

If you don’t fight, you’ll be outfought.

If you serve yourself up as a doormat, then folk will wipe their feet on you.

If you offer yourself up as a mug, then you’ll be mugged.

If you paid £49 for a ticket in 2016 to seal the return of the oldfirm hatefest like 7000 of you did, all seduced by the [Brendan Bounce] then your interests will be put at the backseat of the oldfirm hatefest bus, if indeed your interests even make it onto the bus, and it’ll be your fault for NOT sacking a PLC board who dived into bed with the same club lie, and mutually nurtured the resurgence of the same club lie, a lie that is 100% establishment driven, and Celtic PLC, and the [kilted klown Klan] are mutual beasts who fuel that establishment.

    Its so simple.

If you don’t stand up for yourself then you’ll be stood on.

Kev J told you all of this for 10 years and you ignored mocked and ridiculed every word.

    Unvote the swamp at hollybrood.

Unvote the swamp on Kerrydale Street.

Only one political party, led by George Galloway, wants to “OPEN THE BOOKS” and show where all of your money has gone, for example, how much has the Scottish voting public paid to the Ibrox HMRC bill, and all of the maliciously prosecuted individuals, how much have you paid to ensure that your children ‘must’ be asked lurid private questions by edukation officials, how is Scotland’s ‘census’ countless millions ££££ over budget?

When Celtic fans replace thur “Old trench coats” with “Technicolor dream coats” then we really need to stop and think about things a wee bit more.

Kev J tried to flick a switch on in your minds, only for immature spiteful bile to be spat in his direction.

Now look how deep the hole full of dissing denials actually is.

Only one political party is offering hope and self respect.

All other political parties in Scotland, SNP, Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Labour, Scottish Libdems, Scottish Green Party, all of them turned theirs backs on refuse workers asking for a ‘going rate’ rise and these workers, most of them attacked by rats jumping out of bins etc, and yet amongst the dumping of the bad news for football fans, was the revelation that these already vastly over paid Scottish politicians who ‘collectively’ the new version of better together oh eye, received a pay rise of 3.4% announced as they try to ruin Christmas, these charlatans who turned their ‘collective’ backs on rat bitten refuse workers, whilst billionaire private jets and yacht parties were in full swing ‘off camera’ as wee useless sleekit Elsie MacSelfie spent 2 full weeks waving her CV in the air, at full pay, paid by all of us, to tour the billionaire Climate Change hoax, ABC, 123, 3=C, CC=33 freemason fake fidelity bullshitting the public pageantry bokefest jamboree, of mainstream fake news fueled turbocharged austerity for the 99% agenda!

All of these jiving junkets will only stop when Joe Public says “ENOUGH” and boots these thriving child corrupting monsters out of office, with a political leader who’ll ban fake news media, not by costly legal wrangles that we’d all have to pay for, but by simply NOT providing a govt approved broadcasting license.

    Simple. Drain the fkn swamp!

Only one political party will do this, for you!

No left, no right, no centre, just 100% working class socialism, no putting up borders and turning Scotland into a new version of the six counties, partition only benefits the colonisers, a party who’ll work for the 99% not take your vote then disappear till next election like every political party in Scotland does.

In fact that type of sleekit person would be sussed out by George Galloway’s more than capable party for the 99% and that person would be publicly trashed, for cheating the public, not covered up by a kult and a cowed compliant local media, which every Celtic supporter should have a PhD about, sadly those clued up Celtic fans are now a minority, sadly the majority fall for, read, watch, then post quotes from cowed compliant 100% anti-Celtic local Scottish, and UK, sometimes USA media, onto Celtic supporters blogs which were set up to escape the hostile media liars.

Get real, or you’ll be lead to and led astray by unreal fake deckers.
