Instant gratification is no good for people, it gives our brains the wrong signals, but still, when it comes………. Within 4 minutes of making his Celtic debut Daizen Maeda opened the scoring against Hibernian. It was his first chance, his first proper involvement in play and pivoted the game away from Hibs, who should have already been ahead after Joe Hart and Josip Juranovic pondered in their six-yard box.
Such was the anticipation ahead of last night’s game that for some of us it brought back memories of Jorge Cadete’s debut against Aberdeen (delayed by maleficence at the SFA), or Paulo Di Canio’s against Kilmarnock the same year. Maeda’s impact was every bit as clinical. His 90 minutes was reminiscent of Kyogo; constant movement, gyroscopic balance, few touches and an outcome-determining performance.
If Maeda had a dream debut, Reo Hatate’s reached fantasy levels. When we first heard of Reo he was operating as a left back, with the cursed title of a utility player. The transformation he brought to Celtic’s play had to be seen to be believed. His role was to create and then utilise space, the former achieved by perpetual movement, the latter by ranging passes that switched play and swiftly pushed Celtic forward.
As a consequence, it all looked too easy for Celtic. They had options everywhere, a teammate in space, a forward pass tempting them into attack. Hatate’s movement impacted what happened everywhere on the field. It was a kind of omnipresence, even when he was 40 yards away (the limit of his distance from play), he was still consequential.
With so many playing their first game in over a month, the relenting pace of the first half could not continue. Celtic reduced their pressing after the break and saw the game out. With five substitutes available, it was curious that Ange Postecoglou waited until 74 minutes before brining on Yosuke Ideguchi, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Mikey Johnston.
Our third and final debutant of the night had a lot to live up to. Yosuke adopted the No. 6 role at the back of the midfield, with Callum McGregor moving one place ahead for the remainder of the game. He did enough to show comfort and competence on the ball, as Celtic subverted Hibernian hopes.
As I said above, instant gratification misleads our brains. My brain has already extrapolated last night’s performance across the remainder of the season. Let’s agree that at the very least, Celtic have embarked on an exciting road.

New main stand — 2016-18 we had everything in place to deliver such a project.

Regarding costs — the first figure I saw for the new Liverpool main stand was £80mill.
I haven’t seen any reports / figures that push it up to £110mill — however it would not surprise me.
The budget for the new stand opposite the Kop — £80mill — does seem high for what they are trying to build.
One thing about builds at Annfield is the lack of space — the budget would need to include property acquisition costs which we would not have.
My thoughts were a major upgrade to 67K regular seats — nice round number — with room for an extra 10K seats in an attic level for high days and holidays — CL games / TFOD2.1 games / tourists.
67K seats plus more hospitality / free pie seats = extra £10mill to £15mill in matchday revenue?
10K seats in the attic @ £30 a pop = £2-3mill pa.
Plus naming / conference / office / weekday income.

£100mill budget = £20mill cash investment and £80mill in bonds @ 3 / 4 / 5%.
Public sector investment subsidy — there is a lot of it about.

I never said Rangers are sectarian (some might argue they are but I didn’t say that). I said singing that you are up to your knees in the blood of another “tribe”, “community” or “faith” is sectarian. Equally, I am unsure if you can be sectarian “with” something. Should that not be sectarian against something?
It does take two communities to be sectarian but both do not have to evidence sectarian behaviour. India’s struggle for independence largely evidenced that. As did the 30sand 40s in Europe.
I still reject the definition of sectarian/sectarianism you sourced. I think the debate about the definition of “hun” and various interpretations of that word evidences the difficulty in obtaining a definition on subjective terms that all agree with.
I would bet we cannot agree on a definition for “sanctimonious” but I’ll let you have last word if you want it. No more from me. I’m not even going to ask myself the hard questions you asked me to. I’m comfortable.

Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Matt O’Riley from MK Dons for £1.5 million, The Athletic understands.
The 21-year-old, who moved to the League One club from Fulham last January, is expected to join Ange Postecoglou’s side in the next couple of days.
A former England youth international, O’Riley has attracted interest from clubs across Europe and in the Championship, where Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City were both strongly linked with the attacking midfielder.
With seven goals and five assists to his name for MK Dons this season, O’Riley has been one of the standout players in League One.
Fulham are due a sizeable sell-on fee, understood to be as high as 50 per cent, as part of the compensation settlement that was agreed when O’Riley signed for MK Dons last January.
O’Riley had spent the previous six months training with MK Dons after rejecting the chance to stay at Fulham, where he had been since the age of eight.
So, what can Celtic expect from O’Riley?
After spending six months without a club during the height of the pandemic, O’Riley is thriving at MK Dons.
O’Riley profiles as something of an all-action midfielder who comes alive in the middle and final third.
The right-footed midfielder has seven goals and five assists to his name, with his distribution, finishing and dribbling all catching the eye this season.

The fact is the sectarian issue in Scotland is confused because the Scottish Establishment refuse to acknowledge it.
You then have a situation where they only deal with things that are illegal or unlawful. It gives a highly skewed view of what sectarianism is and as SFtBs alluded to last night gives us strange outcomes like the OBaF bill.
They wanted to tackle it but weren’t prepared to do it properly and deal with organisations like the OO, so they picked on football in general and the OF in particular.
The thing is the Celtic support had cleaned up their act with songs of hate. Rangers hadn’t, many of their songs and chants were already illegal on a bigotry or racist basis.
Celtic support seen this Bill as a “levelling up”.
However no matter how confusing they make sectarianism in Scotland, how they brush it under the carpet Scotland’s shame remains. Yet sectarianism is what it is and many of the songs the GB sang on Monday were sectarian.

Suggestion that the fee for O’Riley is so low because of a buy-out clause in his contract. MK Dons fans are saying that makes sense because he’s worth much more than that (although they would say that)
