Inter will know they’ve been in a game

865

Someone asked me a few weeks ago if this was a must-win game.  Clearly it’s not, the cup games are must-win, as is the coming league game against Aberdeen, but tomorrow night is an important weathervane, indicating if the club is on the road to recovery.

Since that great high against Barcelona, we have faced Italian opposition twice, both in 2013, losing home games 0-3 to Juventus and Milan.  You can trace the decline in European performances through a subsequent Champions League group stage which concluded with five defeats, and last summer’s abject qualification campaign.

Indications are we are a better team now than we were in August, or even when qualifying from our Europa League group, but there is still an almighty task ahead tomorrow night.  I suspect none of this recent history will affect Ronny and his players.  The manager has told the players they can win.  Most of them are playing like they have a point to prove, all of them are looking forward to the challenge.

Inter will know they’ve been in a game.

  1. Oh, and I’m aware that Swallex’s team played with 10 men for some of that game, but that was caused by them over committing too.

For the workers.. got new job today. Nothing fancy nothing great but thats the minor detail. One of the lucky ones again.. should be in bed but the tunes keep Coming .

Agree regarding wee Jamsie. Hope he’s

fit . Milan will provide a test on a level way

    above what we face domestically.

Team shape and positional discipline will

be vital. If the full backs bomb forward there

needs to be an end product.

Big challenge for the team, and hopefully

we have everything to play for in Milan.

    On Chelsea fans.

When living down there, most individually were fine.

I also had the misfortune to be on a tube train with the away Everton support traveling on a special from Chelsea back to

    Euston in 1986.

Train brought to a standstill at Kensington

when attacked by a large Chelsea firm.

    Carnage.

    They picked the wrong target.

Just don’t get that mentality, but Chelsea have a fair share. Most of whom have an affiliation with the dark side.

Hope to catch some of you in the BV at 6.

Aiming to get in to the Millenium for around 2.00 pm also to drop bag off. Do you fancy lunch at La Lanterna at 2.15?

Also Kickinthenakas (I think I saw that you will be with your son too?).

Let me know if it suits, and I’ll book online this evening and confirm.

Talking of technical players, the PSG game last night wasn’t the best in terms of goal-mouth incidents, but there was a lot to be enjoyed in witnessing the fantastic technique of players such as Cavani and Zlatan, and Hazard for Chelsea.

I agree, but my God the game, particularly the first half, was boring!

Is that down to teams not wanting to make blatant mistakes, not willing to accept the risk for the reward? I’m certainly not anticipating the second leg with any great enthusiasm.

Looking at all the negative on the site about tomorrows game. Was thinking how many times I’ve watched Celtic turn over better teams than us under the floodlights of paradise. From barca to Man United we stomped all over them. WALK ON THROUGH THE WIND

To me, it’s like evenly-matched boxers sparring as they try to get a feel for their opponent in the first couple of rounds.

The opening 45 minutes are the first quarter of a 3 hour, possibly 3 1/2 hour tie, with the home team anxious about away goals, while the away side are content to be drawing.

I thought the game was much better after the Chelsea goal, as PSG just had to go for it, and should have won.

But some great skill on display from the players mentioned, especially their touch and vision.

Any team would be happy with achieving a score draw at PSG, who’ve got a fantastic home record in Europe.

I think many of us are getting our excuses in early. I would not be going if I ‘knew’ we were going to lose.

Logically Inter has better players and a more experienced coach. So had Ajax in 82 , Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona ( twice) and Milan. My life would be the poorer without those matches and I could do with another such occasion.

Re lunch at 2.15 I don’t think I will manage that, I’ve told guys I’d be in the Blane Valley for around two. My plan is to have a late breakfast around 10.30am in my house, that should sustain me until four ish then have some lunch in the BV which will keep me going until after the game.

I’ll see you in the Millenium at 2.00pm I’m bringing some wine if you fancy a glass your welcome.

Haven’t read back. Been offline for the last two days. I hope all have recovered from the weekend’s partying in Belfast.

Ard Macha &Macanbheatha, sorry I missed you at the weekend would loved to have met you both.

Somebody last week recommended The Celt in Los Boliches, Fuengirola. I’ll be in there tomorrow night to watch the match. Currently in Tom’s Bar about two hundred meters away. Great bar and Seán the manager always puts on the Celtic matches when you ask him.€2.50 a pint is great value compared to Dublin.

I think Efe came on last week to plug the big hole we had on our RHS. Adam still has issues with positioning but I think he will start.

  16. Pat Nevin was on Five Live Tonight, asked to comment on the Chelsea racists.

The presenter played the clip … he said he hoped that those “purporting” to be Chelsea supporters were caught.

Stated he travels to many Chelsea matches and hadn’t heard racism at Chelsea for decades.

Then the presenter played an interview with an Ethnic Chelsea supporter, talking about the racial abuse he gets going to Chelsea.

“….. I got it going to our match at Leicester from fellow Chelsea fans …… I get it all the time …… I laugh it off but deep down it gets me ….. It still exists.”

Back to Pat Nevin…. NO. Condemnation.

….it’s a social problem, not a Football problem …. It exists on our society …. All over Europe .. The media are doing a good job lets embarrass these people (meaning the PURPORTED Chelsea supporters).

    Compare that to….

“I was driven from Celtic by IRA songs.”

    Then

Halftime at the Scottish Cup final with Rangers, the biggest Scottish Football TV audience….

After Rob McLean had claimed there was sectarian singing from the Celtic End…..

“I’m gonny mention it every time I hear it and I don’t care if it’s Celtic or Rangers or Hearts or Hibs or whoever, I will mention it and lets embarrass these teams”.

    TEAMs is it.

Not purported supporters manifesting a societal problem.

Turns out neither Nevin or McLean had heard the Sectarian singing nor had there been any sectarian singing from the Celtic End.

Contrast that to his woeful defence and obfuscation from what is clear racism from his Premier League paymasters.

  17. TimHorton – Been in hibernation with this weather since I got back from Victoria, I’m also due JM money so i’m keeping a low profile :-)

Working downtown tomorrow so cant make the club – Taking a few guys from work to experience the Celtic…

  18. work wise for my good self ,looking very dodgy I will be seeing the game live ..but taking that sad fact into account …my heart says a braw braw win …Griff the Biff…to score twice in the first half …a bedraggled Italian team…and Thunderbird 2 ..to saunter up and smack it past an already disgusted keeper……….

crowd are as always …the best…everybody happy ..

    awfy awfy braw

  19. Great game for the club tomorrow. Nothing to lose (almost a free go) and everything to gain.

We are in the best form of our season but Inter will be the best team we have faced.

So far from easy but hopefully the Paradise crowd factor will give us that little extra thing which has given us great nights like United 1-0; Milan 2-1 & Barcelona 2-1.

    Hail hail

  23. Historically Inter is the best team we have faced this season but in my opinion THIS SEASON Legia and Red Bull are both better footballing sides.

Agreed, the game was much better after the Chelsea scored. That was really only their first attack . . . jammy b******’s. And you’re right it’s really a 3 hour game split by weeks.

Individual skill no doubt, still not much team play. I’m just saying I wasn’t engrossed.

I’m enjoying the Real Madrid Schalke game much more.

  25. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Chelsea do have a horrible element in their support who have nasty right wing tendencies. According to the three chelsea fans I know, one is from Derry, the nasty element are slowly but surely becoming more isolated but unfortunately still present.

Both London based Chelsea fans I know loathe the syicky buns with a passion. One was at one of their games at Ibrox about twenty five years ago and wanted to leave after 5 minutes as they were a bunch of runts (he used a word that ryhmmed with runts).

The most racist fans I have been beside were Everton fans. Some of us were down in London for a gig and went to Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea play Everton to keep us out of the pub. We went in with the Everton fans so we could shout at Doug Rougvie who played for Chelsea then. When we were held back for half an hour after the game, a black Chelsea fan came out of the main stand and the racist abuse he got from the Everton fans was sickening. We couldn’t wait to get away from them quick enough.

Fortunately an Everton fan I work with has assured me, Everton fans behave a lot better and racist abuse has more or less stopped at their games.

Racism in football and in society as a whole will never be got rid of but the less it appears the better.
