    Big Tommy Gemmell

Hard to express a thought beyond gratitude and deep sorrow .

Those of us privileged to have watched you and who loved the huge contribution you made to some of the best years of our lives can never forget how much you gave us .

Probably you never really realised that.

It was only a game of fiba` , after all.

Sorry indeed that I never had the opportunity to thank you personally , big Tam.

Difficult to see beyond Dembele ( who I am sure will win the award along with the Young POTY gong) but for me, Scott Brown has been the most influential player in Scotland.

    Winning Captains

Stay strong. You did a great deal to make Tommy`s final years more bearable.

  7. Good Ol Tommy gemmell, he put us on the level.

Ronny, Bobby & Jinky are with you in paradise, you will never walk alone.

    Sleep tight big Tam.

  8. My joy at last nights performance has been sadly tempered by the news of Tommy’s passing.

Tommy that goal in 1967 lit a flame in my heart that is burning as brightly today as it did half a century ago.

If there is a Paradise and I believe there is, may you rest there forever.

  9. I’v was in Tommy’s company many times, and was proud to shake his hand every time, a lovely guy and a true icon/ legend, and Celtic man, may he RIP. And Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him. It’s been a very very sad week.

A true Celt and a gentleman.

Prayers offered for Billy McNeill and his family in his illness and for all in the Celtic family who have requested prayers and messages of support as they, or their loved ones, battle illnesses.

Thanks to those on CQN who have kept us up to date with scores in recentgames. HH

Terribly sad news to wake up to this morning. RIP Tommy Gemmell.

The word “legend” is regularly used inappropriately and attributed to footballers who in no way should be termed as legends. In your case Tommy, you are indeed a legend. The word was created for you and your like. You have given us memories which will forever be etched in Celtic folklore, and which can be passed to our children and grandchildren. many years from now people will still talk of Tommy and his incredible left foot thunderbolts! Thanks for the memories Tommy, and may you rest in eternal peace.

    God Bless you.

Thoughts with all of your family and many friends at this sad time.

So sad to hear of Tommy Gemmell’s passing. What memories he has given us, and that moment in the sun in Lisbon will never die. A man of stature, in every sense. May you rest in peace, Tommy.

  16. Tommy played right-back in the first Celtic game I ever attended, 6-1 v St. Johnstone, October 1966. In my second, in May 1967, he was in his normal position of left-back against Dundee United, and opened the scoring with a penalty in a 2-3 loss.

I can’t remember any of the 12 goals in those 2 games, except for Big Tommy’s penalty blasting into the net, and my late father saying to me, “That’s how you hit a penalty, son!”

It was great to get a chance to talk to Tommy and ask him a question when he did a Q& A on here.

Some life you had, Big Shot.
