Israeli recruiting anchor

965

Anchoring to a distant geographical base is not intuitively how you would expect a football club to recruit but Celtic are clearly working their contacts in Israel these days.  Beram Kayal has worked out well in the two and a half years since joining from Maccabi Haifa, as has Nigeria international, Efe Ambrose, who joined from Israeli club Ashdod in the summer.

Neil Lennon recently mentioned he needed cover for left back (despite right-footed Adam Matthews performing heroics there against Barcelona), so it is no surprise that Israel international Rami Gershon is in town today.  Gershon has played less than a dozen games for Standard Liege since leaving Israel three years ago, although he was a regular pick for loan club Kortrijk.  Should he sign he will be a low-risk addition to the squad but he has almost certainly received commendation from the same sources who recommended Kayal and Ambrose.

Best of luck to Rabiu Ibrahim, who left for Kilmarnock after promising much but delivering little as a prodigy at Sporting and PSV Eindhoven.  He was the low-risk addition of last January.  You’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs……

Robert McElroy wrote that piece on Hugh Adams. never heard of the fella.

    —————————————

He is “the Rangers historian”, the hun equivalent of someone like Tom Campbell. Hardly an impartial journalist. It’s common practice to delegate obituary writing to people with expertise in the deceased’s field of operation, but this is a very slanted piece, and bizarrely fawning towards “Sir David”.

The huns can’t even respect their dead.

  3. Im sure that halfwit McElroy was on Newsnight during the meltdown. He was a huns “historian”,he had a pair of white socks on.No doubt minging from last years marching season.

  4. The obituary for Hugh Adam is an absolute disgrace , a piece of Hun propaganda .

Whatever happened to dignity in death, for Gods sake all the man did was criticise Murray !!!

To me, sums up journalism in Scotland . The depths it will stoop to knows no bounds . The Hun tentacles are far reaching.

McElroy, hang your head in shame !!!

  5. Dreadful piece re Adam …fourth estate continues with its Orwellian approach to Huns and their progeny

    Banking collapse…my erchie

EBT ….seems that it has been forgotten that they accepted the use of a large number if these

Murray the despot fraudster continues to avoid due criticism even at the expense of defaming the dead …..shameful

Mental dream requiring help (part 3)

So I’m playing in the English league cup final against Liverpool. I know this because Liverpool are playing in the black away strip and we are playing in red. Although I don’t know who “we” are.

There is a large oak tree in the middle of the park where I play a one two off to go round Steven Gerard.

Meanwhile Suarez keeps running to the crowds as if he scored a goal with his thumb in his mouth. I explain to him that he hasn’t scored a goal, he’s only put the ball out for a throw in. He apologises to me in what i only can think of in a French accent?

I score an own goal similar to the one that Tom Boyd scored against Brazil in the 1998 World Cup. Ourgoalkeeper goals in the huff with me as I apologise to him.

The game finishes and Extra time is played which finishes so we go to a penalty shootout.

Two members of our team who are not selected for the penalty shootout decide to hire a light aircraft and take to the sky to take photographs of the shootout. I mention to them that they will miss the big jump on at the end if we win the penalty shootout. They seem oblivious to this.

The score in the penalty shootout is two each as we reach half way. Travelling Folk then invaded pitch and start putting up their “shows”

I think I recognise someone in the crowd with a large tattoo down hisleft-arm and long black hair. I think he may work for Scottish water. However the friend he was with, wearing a hat,was trying to dip his pocket.

So in summary could anyone tell me what the final score was?… and if anyone knows this chap from Scottish water tell him his friend is a thief.

  7. Not having bought a copy of the Herald for years I’ll now not be clicking on the Herald site again after that hatchet job on Adam.

I don’t see why I should contribute in any way to any publication with that sort of agenda.

    Hell mend them.

  9. That McElroy piece of crap,’Mr Adam offered no proof over his accusations – his opening comment to his interviewers of “my memory’s not what it used to be” perhaps saying it all.’

Obviously another hurting hun with a swinging brick for a heart.

    Disgraceful.

The fact that the transfer ban was accepted but with a delayed start date as opposed to the immediate introduction imposed originally still irks me …

Due process of law just doesn’t seem to apply …

  11. Steinreignedsupreme on

Mullet and Co 10:13 on 5 January, 2013

The transfer window closes in August. So any players they sign on September 1 will be free agents unwanted by anyone else.

The media are constantly naming Sevco in transfer stories despite the fact they can’t sign anyone. It’s a rather lame attempt at pretending it’s business as usual at Ibrox and that they are major players as opposed to a fourth-tier outfit with six months of history.

Some people seem to fall for it though…

Within the last month SevCo tried to get McGowan + Murphy to see out their contracts and then join them on Sept 1st

I am led to believe McGowan’s agent in particular, laughed his head off at the offer.

Murphy was offered £3k a week basic plus £5k appearance money to join

The Herald has descended into a Hun rag over the last few years …might have something to do with the number of former employees of the Rangers News who currently work there

  16. Sevconians…….they really are a despicable , venomous , hate riddled shower.

My contempt for them grows with each passing day .

    Sewer people!!!

  17. Steinreignedsupreme

I think what the media are suggesting is that they are going to set up players to sign on the 1st Sept …

I wonder if they are entitled to engage in any form of transfer activity during their ban …

What security would players have if they decided to wait for the 1 Sept ….ie can they engage in ore contracts…or is that deemed to be signing players

All in all I do think you’re correct …it’s just media BS ..to pretend business as usual

  18. Mullet & Co – The transfer window closes on 31 August which is when I believe the sevco transfer ban also expires. Like any other club sevco can sign any player who was a free agent prior to 31 August outside the windows, ie from 1 Sept.

The article in the Scotsman today suggests McGowan is signing a 1 year deal with the Chinese club, then will sign for sevco as a free agent on 1 Sept. How this will work I’m unsure and the article doesn’t explain. Will McGowan pay up 6 months of his contract to release himself from his contract in August? Presumably with the 6 months salary he just earned, thus leaving him penniless for his 6 months work. Or will there be some financial incentive to the Chinese club from sevco to release the player?

Or will ally and charles “doc” green use their flying DeLorean time machine to return to a period when McGowan was a free agent, sign him, and bring him “Back to the Future”?

    I think the last one.

  19. tomtheleedstim on

“Many with some justification accused Mr Adam of having his own agenda. There was no doubt that the club’s level of liabilities was at times at an uncomfortable level – but it was the collapse of the banking world, something wholly outwith Sir David Murray’s control, and the merger firstly between the Bank of Scotland and the Halifax Building Society and later between HBOS and Lloyds Banking Group that created the real problems for Sir David and Rangers.”

I am astounded that this could appear in a person’s obituary. The writer should be ashamed of himself.

“All in all I do think you’re correct …it’s just media BS ..to pretend business as usual”

There is a strong case to suggest Sevco are a bigger club than Rangers ever were – certainly on media attention they are.

The amount of coverage Sevco gets dwarfs what Rangers ever received. I reckon they have had more live games shown than any other British based team.

The coverage they receive in the media is wildly disproportionate to the level they play at. None of it can be justified.

  21. Steinreignedsupreme

The MSM and Sky are desperate for Sevco to get into the top flight ..

The MSM realise that the majority of their readership are Huns and are playing up to them

Whereas Sky in their time hour honoured mercenary style are only interested in the benefits they will gain from bring able to televise Glasgow Derbies

Some advice wanted. Any insights on the pros and cons of the Samsung Google Chromebook? I have read mixed reviews. I really only use the home computer for browsing the web, CQN, online shopping and e-mails and occassional internet banking and the odd letter document. I am not a big gamer or streamer.

It appears to be quick for browsing and is only £229 but everything is stored on the google cloud very little on the computer. Has anyone else got one and how do they rate it?

    Thanks for any feedback.

  23. Just emailed The Herald to complain about that obituary. Absolutely disgraceful and a slur on that mans life. I have never read such a disgraceful obituary in all my life. I suggested that they should apologise to Mr Adams family.

Is it little wonder that they are losing readership, when they are becoming more and more like the old rangers news?

  24. PFAyr

Hugh MacDonald (Chief Sports Writer of the Herald) is a life-long Celtic supporter and an excellently balanced journalist.

Graeme MacPherson is a life-long St. Mirren supporter and not in the Chick Dung mode.

Nae doubt Richard Wilson is a blue nose though.

  25. tomtheleedstim @ 10:53

It is a breathtakingly contemptible piece of writing.

He later refers to an interview Mr Adam gave. I suspect he is referring to the one given to Alex Thomson.

Maybe someone here who twitters (or whatever you call it) could point Alex Thomson towards it.

His take on this disgraceful thinly-veiled attack in the guise of an obituary for someone he has recently met would be interesting.

Amazing isn’t it? In the case of the broadcaster – they continue to peddle the lie of ‘rivalry’.

The truth is there will never be another major Glasgow derby. Sevco are a new club with no history. They have never had any dealings with Celtic and are no more rivals of ours than Eastercraigs Boys Club are.

Kilgore Trout – there may be grievances between the two parties, real or imagined, but the man’s obituary ffs. Dignity personified indeed.

  29. On McGowan who I think is a very decent right back, would he not need a visa to play again in Scotland. Would Sevco not need to prove that they could not find a player in that position from Europe before they could now employ him taking up one of the visas foe Scottish footie.
