Jack-of-all-trades

1699

I was initially surprised to hear we’re tracking a Jack-of-all-trades defensive midfielder-cum-central defender.  Neil Lennon’s clear preference in central defence is Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk, both of whom have been in excellent form this season, but he has backup in the form of Charlie Mulgrew, or even Mikael Lustig, who has played there before.

Defensive midfield, along with striker, is one of the key positions Celtic should be looking to strengthen; so a dedicated specialist would seem the better option, but our last outstanding specialist in that area arrived with exactly the same CV.  I remember the disputes here when Neil Lennon talked about Victor Wanyama being able to play centre half.  He could, but he didn’t.

It’s more important that we do our recon well than utilise everything in a player’s locker.  Buying from England is usually expensive, but at least if affords you the opportunity to solicit plenty of reliable opinion on a player.

Is it not the case that turning up to vote is compulsory ie you have to attend the polling station, but actually voting isn’t?

That’s always struck me as a stroke of genius as it allows those who won’t vote on principle to actually have a voice.

Why does anyone care what Dave King have to say anyway?

He is so far outside the picture, the MSM would be as well asking one of us our considered opinion on where Sevco’s priorities should lie…..

Still, I will get straight to the point.

If there is anyone on the board looking in…..Go out right now and sign Robert Snodgrass, no messing about, just do it.

Then….I wont be able to accuse anyone of having no ambition.

If Celtic as a club have pretensions to be a CL team, then its entirely logical to sign some quality players.

Nobody is asking for the moon on a stick, we all know Celtic haven’t the resources of Man City, but still, we need to be doing better regarding transfers

Doing it on the cheap wont cut it in the CL, and we all saw, what can happen when you sell your best players, bud don’t replace them with equal quality….its not rocket science.

  9. Top of the morning to you all from a fair and pleasant Fife where the rime is melting fast.

I am in a buoyant mood this morning despite yesterday’s statement by the Scottish Government (they agree with Lord Wallace that I am the only one with concerns about undeclared secret society members in the judiciary), as support for my petition has come from the strangest source. The Freemasons.

One of Scotland’s famous freemasons is calling for more openness and accountability! These are the very terms of my petition!

Surely we can do better than that.

    A couple more Seville stories..

Went a walk to find my son but with hoops everywhere it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I took a can of beer with me but after 15 min or so it was boiling. I passed a pub where four Porton fans sat at a table outside, looking glum, no beers in front of them. I offered them the roasting can I was holding and the poor guys nearly pulled my arm off for it. They guzzled it between them and thanked me with hugs and handshakes. They must have been potless.

An hour later I wandered into a wee park where I was approached by an elderly couple. They asked if I spoke English as they were from New Zealand. The old guy said to me ‘you know, the tour guide didnt tell us there was some kind of green and white holy festival going on in the city, but hey it looks like good fun anyway’.

‘Well not quite’, I replied….after an explanation about it being a Uefa Cup Final they were none the wiser.

  12. One week to go. Whilst everyone wants a striker hopefully we don’t sign one for the sake of it. If what we want isn’t available then leave it to the summer when there will be more available and of a better quality. What would be the point in signing the likes of Leigh Griffiths? No better than what we have. We would be better giving the players we have an opportunity (particularly Balde & Fridjonsson) to see what they can do.

We don’t need cover up front. We need to get more forwards out of the door. Sell Sammi, get Bangura back out on loan and we still have Stokes, Balde, Pukki and Commons who is playing more as a striker this season.

Only position we need cover in is left back.

That’s why football is so interesting. I would rather punt Sammy than Ledley and wouldn’t sign Griffiths and May.

I would however swap Pukki for either Griffiths or May.

I’d rather we spent £5m on Finnobagason and be done with it, even if we have to wait till the summer in the hope that he would slot straight in. He will be worth double that in a season or two.

Rest of season should give Holmbert, Atajic and some of the other fringe players a run to see if they have it. I would have added Rogic to that list if he was still around.

  19. The Spirit of Arthur Lee on

We understand Celtic forward Bahrudin Atajic is poised to join Shrewsbury Town on loan. The Bosnia and Herzegovina under 21 international is highly-rated at Celtic and scored his first goal for the club against Motherwell earlier this season. Celtic boss Neil Lennon is happy to loan out Atajic so that he can get some valuable first-team action under his belt.

    TSOAL……

If true, seems to perfectly encapsulate everything wrong with our efforts to land a striker. I’ll leave others to join the dots….

  22. Going by who we are going to signe in this last week of the window, I make it at my last count from the SMSM and the quallafide CQN laptop coaches NL has a pick of 23 players to choose from, and he has all these people to please too, all the usual suspects are circling around waiting to pounce on him, the amount of people who post in here waiting on Celtic to fall flat on there faces during this window is just plain daft, this place will be very busy with Huns this week, there are a couple in this morning up to there usual crap, Neil May or may not get a striker, but until he does I for one will not be tossing any names about, I trust his judgement, let the man get on with his job, lurking Huns? GIRUYs.

Looked good last season in lower division and carried on this season. Good going forward and if anything he is improving defensively.

  32. It seems to me that a few years ago if you hung about on CQN or a few other websites you might hear genuine signing gossip from friends of friends at the club.

No more it seems. If something is going to happen the other club/agent may leak it but we don’t.

Good business practice I’m sure…but no fun.
