Jack-of-all-trades

1699

I was initially surprised to hear we’re tracking a Jack-of-all-trades defensive midfielder-cum-central defender.  Neil Lennon’s clear preference in central defence is Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk, both of whom have been in excellent form this season, but he has backup in the form of Charlie Mulgrew, or even Mikael Lustig, who has played there before.

Defensive midfield, along with striker, is one of the key positions Celtic should be looking to strengthen; so a dedicated specialist would seem the better option, but our last outstanding specialist in that area arrived with exactly the same CV.  I remember the disputes here when Neil Lennon talked about Victor Wanyama being able to play centre half.  He could, but he didn’t.

It’s more important that we do our recon well than utilise everything in a player’s locker.  Buying from England is usually expensive, but at least if affords you the opportunity to solicit plenty of reliable opinion on a player.

You don’t, simples, we are open to all, if you don’t like the politics who cares, you, like me are but a very small cog in the wheel that is Celtic, we are nada.

  9. St Patricks day 1956 on

On the topic of Seville, a true story about a guy I know…

    The Heartbreak Of Seville.

The baby is due, all is going well,

But Dad is worried, everyone can tell.

Tam has a problem, a real sticky wicket,

CELTIC in Seville, and he’s not got a ticket.

Convincing his wife the birth would be late.

Tam booked his flight, and phoned up his mate.

His schoolmate, his pal, his friend for life,

Kevin, get a ticket, I sorted it with my wife.

Tam, – the birth of a baby- a joy to behold,

A wonderful experience, or so I’ve been told.

Kevin, forget that, I don’t care what you say,

I am going to the final, come what may.

Tam’s search for a ticket was in vain,

As Kevin teased and taunted, again and again.

Then finally Kevin sent this message to Tam,

The Eagle has landed, try and be calm.

Tam’s plea for the ticket fell on deaf ears,

You’ll get it over in Spain, confirmed his fears.

They all thought that Tam would stay at hame,

If baby was born on the day of the game.

Glasgow airport was full to the brim,

But things then started to get really grim.

Ticket desks sent Tam from pillar to post,

Indicating his flight booking was probably lost.

    This information aroused Tam’s ire,

Blood pressure going higher and higher.

When the idiot admitted the ticket was there,

Tam caught his flight with minutes to spare.

SEVILLE, for oranges, paella, and the runs,

80,000 Celtic fans, but no any huns.

We’re gonnae win the cup, the choir sings,

Cos we’ve got Henrik, the King of Kings.

A call from Kevin, to meet at his hotel,

Tam starts to think, things are going well.

But in a maze, no hotel can he find,

Needle in a haystack, springs to mind.

Meet at the stadium, right away,

This is definitely not Tam’s day.

He takes a flakey, and starts to cuss,

He can’t find a taxi or a bus.

Tam jumped into a car, asked him to dash,

The hijack was quelled with the offer of cash.

A Spaniard, bewildered, as off he sped,

Amigo, you loco, was all he said.

The phone network crashed, contact was gone,

Low and behold, Tam met his pal John.

The look on John’s face, he didn’t need to say,

The words that Tam dreaded, his ticket was away.

    Traumatised, distraught, forlorn and defeated,

This paragraph ought to be deleted.

Full of expletives, not to be repeated,

Well maybe just one, – B******s.

Not enough money to satisfy touts,

    The dirty thieving Spanish louts.

Give us your money, your camera and phone,

Tam knew he couldn’t beat them up alone.

A young girl took pity, as she saw his despair,

My dad’s got a ticket, standing over there.

His price also too high, touts began to deride,

Tam’s only option now, was to commit suicide.

Take the money I have, Tam wailed pleeeeeese,

Ok, stop crying, and get off your knees.

Thank you, God bless, Tam said to the man,

He ridiculed the touts as off he ran ( ram the tickets up your arse as far as you can )

    ESTADIO OLIMPICO, a wonderful sight,

Everywhere was covered in green and white.

Tam starts singing with all his might,

And praying his wife won’t give birth that night.

A big ugly Porto fan accosted wee Tam,

Right in among them, he didn’t give a damn.

You in Ze Big Trouble, if Porto no win,

I hope its deep shit, said Tam with a grin.

Out you go, said a Polis with a gun,

Tam pleaded innocent, what have I done.

Into the Celtic end, beside your own kind,

A seat in the press box, Tam did find.

The magnificent Henrik keeps them in the game.

But blundering Rab, is mainly to blame.

Bobo’s sent off, into extra time,

A 3-2 defeat, it really was a crime.

Fans land in Glasgow, the media do grill,

First up to comment, was Tam from ” Harthill”.

The ref was a joke, I’ve no more to say,

I need to get hame, there’s a wean on the way.

A girl called Megan, born two weeks late,

She’s so beautiful, it was well worth the wait.

If Celtic can get to a final once more,

Tam will get his own ticket, before he leaves the front door.

PS Tam was not from Harthill, God forbid, he was from Uphall,

the media got it wrong, as usual.

Hope to meet up with you all at CQteN

I am not saying that the GB need the “permission” of the rest of the fans at all — but what I am saying is that a) the banner concerned was questioned and indeed argued against by members of the GB themselves as they knew it would cause both them and the club a problem on that particular night and b) the banner and the fine that followed were viewed by many as an instance where the GB put their own view of things and the need for the banner before the potentially negative consequences for the club.

Now, as you have rightly said — you believe the fine was a fine worth paying to highlight an injustice,

I will not disagree with you on the injustice and the wrong that needs to be fought.

However, no one else was consulted by the GB as to whether or not the likely fine etc was just to be taken on the chin — everyone else in the stadium was excluded in the decision making process — yet everyone else is lumped with the penalty through the club itself.

Also, you used the term “opposition” as if someone who is not in agreement with the green brigade on this issue is in opposition to them as a whole.

I don’t think that is so.

I have agreed and welcomed the GB’s radicalism and on other occasions opposed the way they go about things or when they don’t do something that I think they should — and I stress I am only one voice and just expressing a personal opinion rather than dictating at all.

However, I get the feeling that whenever you dare to disagree you are immediately deemed to be the enemy or the opposition– and that is not so at all.

I know that some in the trust find the GB hard to understand or talk to ( private conversation ) and some from CSC’s just feel they are ignored. Maybe there is good reason for that — whether it be ethos or whatever — in my view the GB needs better communication with the rest of the support — whether to agree with them or not!

I could lay exactly the same argument at the PLC board by the way.

I was told that there was division from two separate sources with GB links. They voted on it apparently and the majority view prevailed though the majority was a small one. The GB then took the stance that won and supported it en masse knowing that a fine was likely — that is what I am lead to believe.

My wife and i, along a friend of ours were booked into the Hotel that was originally

ment to be for the team! The team were moved to another Hotel, because this was a ‘Complex Site’, which had a Golf course (designer, one Jack Nicklaus), and a ‘Go-Cart’

racing track! Celtic thought that the noise from the track would be too much, so they

put the players ‘Families’ in to this one! Beautiful Hotel! Hugh outdoor pool facility, Chris

Sutton’s, sons’ and Allan Thompson’s boy gave it some wellie!

Heat!!! I had a shower 0815, came out after drying myself, was back in having a cold shower at 0817 ! The room temp at that time of the morning was 33 degrees, and that was

with the ‘picture window’ open to the max, door to the room wedged open to give catch any possible draught! I had a ‘heated’ conversation with the Manager about Air-Condition,

and he apologised, but he assured me it was fully ON! He asked to liase with the other guests as what to do at mid-day, when the temp would be in the region of 45 degrees!

However, we coped! wouldn’t have missed it! The Stadium was equally as bad that night,

just how our players performed that night, in that arena, in that heat, well, is something that will live with me forever, they were magnificent, to a man! The only thing that really irked me about that ‘forever’ experience, was the fact, that the player for Porto, who scored their winner, had been STRETCHERED OFF, on three occasions!

    =========================

How about my principle that I decide what principles I pay for? Does that not count?

If the rights of others are ignored then there will be trouble ahead.

That is the problem bringing personal rights into the stadium. We are asked by and large to leave some at the gate because they may infringe on others rights and when a group of supporters appear to put their rights above others then the consequences are conflict and in such circumstance’s he with the biggest stick wins.

I suppose I should have another look to see what the GB’s proclaimed aims are but whatever the are, getting themselves removed from the scene could not have been one of them.

  26. I’d love to see the not-guilty GB back for the atmosphere and passion.

The Zombie outrage would be phenomenal.

The GB were colourful, controversial, interesting, and smart – that Milan banner was a pointed comment on Scottish society and government policy; probably THE most pertinent banner ever seen inside a football stadium.

BUT. . . There’s also a pointed difference between smart and clever.

The GB were never clever enough. Understand the difference, become a powerful, influencing force. Fail, get binned as troublesome neds.

The GB need to get clever.

UEFA Media Centre (Nyon) record every CL game – pre & post match including crowd scenes (banners/ pyros etc).

Reports are drawn up (post match) and subsequent action is taken when there are any perceived breaches. Downloads are available on the UEFA site.

Trust me – we are not unique – there are a multitude of sins committed by other clubs (their fans) and each is dealt with accordingly!
