Jack-of-all-trades

1699

I was initially surprised to hear we’re tracking a Jack-of-all-trades defensive midfielder-cum-central defender.  Neil Lennon’s clear preference in central defence is Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk, both of whom have been in excellent form this season, but he has backup in the form of Charlie Mulgrew, or even Mikael Lustig, who has played there before.

Defensive midfield, along with striker, is one of the key positions Celtic should be looking to strengthen; so a dedicated specialist would seem the better option, but our last outstanding specialist in that area arrived with exactly the same CV.  I remember the disputes here when Neil Lennon talked about Victor Wanyama being able to play centre half.  He could, but he didn’t.

It’s more important that we do our recon well than utilise everything in a player’s locker.  Buying from England is usually expensive, but at least if affords you the opportunity to solicit plenty of reliable opinion on a player.

The lad would be great cover for Izzy. I think he would be a decent signing.

    Annabel Goldie?? WTF?

It must be because her surname is a colloquial term for a dram, in which case you’re excused.

  3. A wee repeat plea from last night- does anyone know of 2 spare Celtic end tickets for Easter Rd on Sunday, for myself and a good Bhoy over from rebel county for the weekend?

If we sign a 30 goal a season striker people will moan that we are too reliant on one player for goals.

Ahh the strife of a Celtic manager!

    The HEAT in Seville.

Everything is relative. Living in Sicily me was habituated to heat . 50 plus is not unusual in Sicily. My pale skinned pal from St Albans really struggled.I kept him going by means of a supply of frozen pureed watermelon ice poles..

Mrs S of T went to Seville but did not go the game . The night of the game she went to a Moroccan hammam.I met her after the game, she was wearing a wee Cardi , she was worried about catching a chill.!

  8. I well remember when we signed Pat Stanton. Lovely footballer.

In that 1977 cup final he guided Mick Conroy through a tense game which we won with an Andy Lynch penalty. Who’d have thought we’d win a final against them with a penalty, even though it was a stonewaller?

Incidentally did you hear Lenny on Alan Brazil’s show this morning?

I only caught the last minute or 2.

Came across really well as always. Was talking about KC and his contract. Whilst Lenny didnt fully commit that we will take on the extension option that we have on his contract, he did say we almost certainly would. That would suit me fine.

Also mentioned his own contract saying that whilst he doesnt have a long-term contract he is quite happy with his situation as are the Club.

Pat Stanton was one player Stein should have signed around 69-70.

A great reader of the game and a leader on the park too, although we weren’t short of captains then.

  15. Anybody seen that Dave King interview in the Daily Mail? Hilarious!

It shows up the huns’ arrogance and sense of entitlement to a tee.

  16. It was BFDJ who handled on the line in the 77 cup final, the buffoon still denies it never touched him, but as we know he is a habitual liar- “both hands, no question” as Paddy Crerand memorably said in the commentary.

I think Conroy was a star of the 80 cup final, Pat Stanton mentored big Roddy McDonald in 76-77 season.

Sort of sacked TalkSport. Used to enjoy it but it’s too much on the cricket side the last time I listened. I think Brazil is a decent morning host.

Glad to hear Neil lennon was on though. I think anything UK wide is a good platform for our manager. He is a very good talker and always communicates well when given a decent interview by someone without an agenda.

I don’t understand why he is not saying definite to Commons contract but I guess it’s not the place to confirm or deny it. That should be done with the player himself.

Had a wee look on the Hibs forum ahead of sunday and they seem convinced that Griffiths is on his way to Celtic. The rumours have been round our office for a few weeks now. It seems to be a done deal according to most people I speak to. My thoughts on that are either it’s garbage or Griffiths can’t keep his mouth shut. I think the truth is near the middle. Him and his agent are desperate for a move. he hasn;t settled down South and wants to move back up the road. He shouldn;t have signed the new deal at Wolves in the early part of the season and went back to his boyhood heroes Hibs to be honest.

He would have been a legend there.

we must have already him because an earlier poster has already given PL abuse for signing him, so why would you give someone abuse for something that hasnt happened or isnt going to happen

the earlier poster must be right in the know and has some top quality inside source because theres no real word other than paper talk anywhere

im sure theres no one on this site would just give PL abuse for the hell of it
