JOHNSTON’S STARTER FOR TEN

ALISTAIR JOHNSTON enjoyed his starter for ten after Celtic’s 2-1 triumph in the Viaplay League Cup Final at Hampden yesterday.

The Canadian World Cup right-back picked up his first honour at the Hoops – after only 10 first-team appearances for the club.

Johnston, 24, who joined the club in December in a £3.5million switch from MLS outfit CF Montreal, turned in a robust shift as he played his part in the team’s success with the prolific Kyogo Furuhashi claiming both goals – an action replay of last season when he fired in a double against Hibs in the showpiece showdown.

YELLOW PERIL…Alistair Johnston tussles with Borna Barisic as referee Nick Walsh prepares to book the Ibrox defender.

A delighted defender took to Instagram to announce a “just getting started’ message to the fans.

It was Johnston’s first-ever trophy success and he looked a stalwart after making his debut against Michael Beale’s team on January 2 when Kyogo struck late in the game to gain a 2-2 draw for the champions who are nine points ahead as they zero in on their second successive crown.

The international star posted: “A day to remember. First trophy of my career and we are just getting started. HH.”

Next up for Johnston will be the midday challenge in Paisley on Sunday when the team take on St Mirren, the only Scottish team to beat Ange Postecoglou’s men this season.

No doubt the tenacious, touch-tackling Vancouver-born performer will be hoping to make it heaven in eleven.
