Judge King plan by those who father it

950

I’ve no affection for Real Madrid but was delighted for them, and Carlo Ancelotti in particular, last night.  It’s getting to the stage that it’s impossible to figure out who the best team in Europe actually is.

Bayern Munich’s season has been historic.  They swept aside German competitors with record-breaking ease on their way to what looked like them becoming the first team to retain Europe’s top crown in its Champions League format.  Real were irresistible.  Let’s hope for a Madrid final before the Lions in Lisbon next month.

After yesterday’s blog I heard that more journalistic allies from Anderston Quay have flocked to Dave King’s camp, including that Leggat (sp?) guy, who used to entertain many.

I’ve heard more theories as to what the Sevco board and the group trying to run their club into the ground are planning that I care to remember, but when you look at the team King in particular has pulled together, you would be forgiven for concluding there is no masterplan worthy of the name.

We can’t always judge a man by the company he keeps but we can just a strategy by those who fathered it.

Prediction: King will kill Sevco then fall on his arse.  Bump.

Here we Go for 10 In a Row!

Applications for the 10th annual CQN charity golf day, which will take place in Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 4th July, will close this Friday, 2nd May.

As ever it will be oversubscribed so if you would like to attend, email BlantyreKev and Taggsy at cqnopen10IAR@gmx.co.uk before Friday.  Cost for the full day’s entertainment including golf is £80.  There are a very limited number of non-golfer evening places at £45.  Further detail will be released nearer the date and when places confirmed.

Over the course of the season I’ve read lots of comment about the values we should aspire to as a club, specifically when it comes to alleviating poverty, both in our own community, and abroad.  CQN’ers responded incredibly to our Malawi school kichen(s) appeal, which dwarfed our work at home.

The Charity Foundation are selling badges (£1 each) before the Dundee United game on 11 May to raise funds to feed the poor and hungry in and around Glasgow.  I have volunteered as a coordinator on the day and have offered to help recruit around 100 to sell badges before the game.

This will be trophy presentation day – but the trophy isn’t coming out until after the game, so you’ll not miss any of the flesh-on-silver action.

If you are able to get involved in this initiative, which strikes the core of what we think of ourselves as a Movement, email your details to cfcfvolunteer@celticfc.co.uk .

Thank you.

I’ve tried to comment a couple,of times with no luck.

I saw a remark yesterday about choosing a drop down anonymous profile.

    I don’t get that.

Having been a mainframe programmer many eons ago, I consider myself computer literate, but my comments somehow disappear into the ether.

I hope you are well away from these storms and high rainfalls.

I heard the Panhandle and Alabama received over 20 inches of rain over the last couple of days.

Taken from the Diddy Ranger………….The time now has surely come to ban all these molesters of the truth from Celtic Park.

CELTIC striker Anthony Stokes has been caught on stage with a pro-IRA singer at a republican pub in Belfast.

Stokes, 25, who has already been warned by boss Neil Lennon over his conduct, was pictured at a notorious bar on the Falls Road with his arm around musician Alan Quinn.

A picture taken at the Rock Bar shows a smiling Stokes at the
microphone with Quinn, who faces trial over video footage of him leading a crowd in IRA chants last year.

Dublin-born Stokes was carpeted by Celtic in 2012 after he attended a memorial for m murdered Real IRA chief Alan Ryan.

He was fined, told by Lennon that he had damaged the club’s name and was urged to stay away from similar events.

And his appearance at the Rebel Sunday night held by the bar every week is sure to incense the club.

A Celtic source said: “A lot of people at the club will be infuriated Stokes has disregarded the manager’s advice and turned up at an event like this.

“Why has a Celtic player turned up in Belfast – on the Falls Road of all places – at an event called Rebel Sunday and gone up on stage?”

Stokes visited the Rock Bar on
April 6, a day after scoring Celtic’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Dundee United.

On stage with the footballer and 48-year-old Quinn, from Glasgow, was singer Gerry Og McConnell, whose
repertoire includes songs such as Provo’s Lullaby.

Two nights earlier, the bar had hosted notorious singer Brendan “Bik” McFarlane, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1976 for murdering five people in a pub bombing.

Quinn has been charged with breach of the peace over an incident in the Foggy Dew bar in Gallowgate, Glasgow, last April – just after the death of Margaret Thatcher.

Footage of him conducting a pro-IRA chant appeared on YouTube within hours of Thatcher’s death.

No date has been set for his trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Quinn – whose band are called Shebeen and whose songs include The IRA Will Set Them Free – was so happy with the gig at which Stokes came on stage he tweeted about it.

    He wrote: ”Absolutely
fantastic. Great fun too. Thanks for everything.”

Celtic last night declined to comment.

There was no answer at Quinn’s home in Glasgow’s east end.

The Rock Bar -Notorious? GTF! Another thing, Anthony Stokes & Niall McGinn are share holders in the above pub. I’d also like to know what they mean when they say “On the Falls Road of all places”. Surely a statement like that falls into the Sectarian/Racist catagory?

  13. Rock Tree Bhoy on

That DR story about Stokes singing in a pub is the most blatent attempt at muck raking I’ve seen in a tabloid for years, it really is time thy were banned from official access to Celtic Park. They clearly have an agenda to discredit Celtic and take the spotlight away fom deedco. Its so blatent surely the club has to take some sort of defensive action, if not, why not.

    Re Stokes:

I do have significant concerns about players like him and Griffiths ‘acting the lig’ in pubs etc, ONLY if that includes singing offensive song, being drunk or otherwise acting in an unprofessional manner.

However- he ought not be criticised for simply being in a bar or for joining in in an inoffensive sing song. This is a bar which I understand to be owned in some guise by Mssrs McCourt and McGinn. Stokes was there with his friends/colleagues. So what!!

    This is a non-story.

DR…. stopped buying it years ago. Not clicked on a link to it for years. Never will.

It seems that now Sevco are in their death throes and will go the same way as the previous club who operated out of Poundland the DR is upping the ante on the ole ‘stick it to Celtic’ campaign.

The time for the club to flex it’s muscle and deal with this ‘paper’ is now. Starve them.Exclude them. Humiliate them.

As for the Celtic fans? Our greatest weapon is the green pound. Every time you buy the DR or click on a link to it, you are propping them up financially and sticking another needle into Celtic.
