I’ve no affection for Real Madrid but was delighted for them, and Carlo Ancelotti in particular, last night. It’s getting to the stage that it’s impossible to figure out who the best team in Europe actually is.
Bayern Munich’s season has been historic. They swept aside German competitors with record-breaking ease on their way to what looked like them becoming the first team to retain Europe’s top crown in its Champions League format. Real were irresistible. Let’s hope for a Madrid final before the Lions in Lisbon next month.
After yesterday’s blog I heard that more journalistic allies from Anderston Quay have flocked to Dave King’s camp, including that Leggat (sp?) guy, who used to entertain many.
I’ve heard more theories as to what the Sevco board and the group trying to run their club into the ground are planning that I care to remember, but when you look at the team King in particular has pulled together, you would be forgiven for concluding there is no masterplan worthy of the name.
We can’t always judge a man by the company he keeps but we can just a strategy by those who fathered it.
Prediction: King will kill Sevco then fall on his arse. Bump.
Here we Go for 10 In a Row!
Applications for the 10th annual CQN charity golf day, which will take place in Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 4th July, will close this Friday, 2nd May.
As ever it will be oversubscribed so if you would like to attend, email BlantyreKev and Taggsy at cqnopen10IAR@gmx.co.uk before Friday. Cost for the full day’s entertainment including golf is £80. There are a very limited number of non-golfer evening places at £45. Further detail will be released nearer the date and when places confirmed.
Over the course of the season I’ve read lots of comment about the values we should aspire to as a club, specifically when it comes to alleviating poverty, both in our own community, and abroad. CQN’ers responded incredibly to our Malawi school kichen(s) appeal, which dwarfed our work at home.
The Charity Foundation are selling badges (£1 each) before the Dundee United game on 11 May to raise funds to feed the poor and hungry in and around Glasgow. I have volunteered as a coordinator on the day and have offered to help recruit around 100 to sell badges before the game.
This will be trophy presentation day – but the trophy isn’t coming out until after the game, so you’ll not miss any of the flesh-on-silver action.
If you are able to get involved in this initiative, which strikes the core of what we think of ourselves as a Movement, email your details to cfcfvolunteer@celticfc.co.uk .
Thank you.

Not when it comes to newspapers smart arse.
Celtic should ignore this rubbish, but in the background take away there press card, and stop taking there advertising money, and blogs like this should be letting our oversees supporters not to click on the daly record, all stuff from Celtic should all come from our own website, ok not everyone has access to a PC but word gets around quick enough.

Do you think people are so easily influenced that an advertising hording will change their mind on what paper they want to buy?
—————————————————————
But should the club be doing business with them at all – given their apparent attitude to all things Celtic? I think this is another example of the dichotomy between the commercial and emotional sides of football.
This one tickled my funny bone…
Q – Will Season Ticket Holders who have sat in their seat for a number of years be able to secure “their” seat at Ibrox, or will they stand to lose “their” seat?

But the irony is that the DR and the Sun are paying Celtic for that advertising.
I don’t see how it would influence anyone inside the ground to buy either of them if they don’t already. Same for those Celtic supporters watching on TV.
If, and it’s a big if, there any supporters who align to the old or new team playing out of Ibrox see the adverts is it more likely to make them buy them or more likely that they will say “hey, they papers are advertising at the cellic gemme, ah’m no buyin that eny mare”
A win win for Celtic.

Celtic PLC take money from the DR, right.
How much ? A pittance ? Probably ?
If so, why not tell them to keep it ?
And, by doing this…in an instant, a rally
round the flag type of spirit would take-off, eh ?
Rob McLean and Pat Nevin vitually – pissed all
over the Celtic support during the SCF 2011.
What did Celtic do ?
They sent a letter of complaint to some obscure
agency when, surely….the best course of action would
have been to give the BBC a shot across the bows during
a live transmission, no ?
Ye see, Celtic’s leaders are there for one reason and, one reason
only – to take Celtic fans money.
Once they have that money in the bank then, they don’t have to do
anything really as they’ve already been paid, eh ?
In the Future.Celtic fans caught singing Irish songs at a St Patricks Concert, deported to Van Diemans Land, thank God I have relatives there ,at least I will get a bed.

I’d prefer it if Celtic or whoever is employed by Celtic, did not sell advertising space to any of the MSM,.
I don’t think it influences any of our fans on what they wish to read. The DR is still bought by many people in Scotland because of historical support for the Labour Party and with the Sun, Express and Daily Mail ect, ect, supporting ‘Conservative values’ or right wing ideology, they too have a solid readership.
But if Celtic fans still buy these papers, they are unlikely to change now. And those who have stopped are not going to change their mind because of an advertising hording.

CELTIC: Connaghan, Hay, Brogan; Murray, McNeill, McCluskey; Johnstone, Hood, Deans, Callaghan, Dalglish.
ATLETICO MADRID: Thug; Psycho, Punch; Spit, Hatchet, Bludgeon; Hammer, Thump, Wallop, Gouge, Axe-Murderer

Steinreigned,
Exactly.
If anyone needs convincing you only have to watch Real this season compared to last.
Normally when some thing bad is in the papers about us, and its usually a no story, there’s bad news about the DOB’s right behind it, nothing surer.

Thanks. I already had that link. Someone posted the photo in the last week I think.

Stokes hits a bit of form and bang another story about the bhoy in Ireland, par for the course in this country. In the story someone is asking why he was on the falls road ? Is he not allowed to go where he wants like anybody else the bhoys got a life and I’m sure he’s got plenty of mates who drink on the falls so why shouldn’t he go there and if there’s a band on even better. As I said in my reply to NatKnow, I’d prefer we had no dealing with the MSM – especially when it comes to advertising. But I’d prefer we didn’t help promote fast food chains either, or fizzy drinks. The reality is Celtic is no different o any other football club in the world when it comes to making money. We do not have access o the obscene football-related revenue our neighbours in England have or teams from Germany and Spain have. It is a bitter pill to swallow, but as previous research has shown people are stuck in their ways when it comes to buying newspapers.
On the BBC thing, Celtic are contractually obliged to allow them to cover our games. I’m not sure how the complaint was handled, but I have always thought the producer was to blame for that incident, rather than the other two.
I was very pleased to see Athletico Madrid put Chelsea out .
Theyve always been an under-dog team in the shadows of the establishments megs rich Real . It was heartening to see a committed hard-working team of good players, but not mega money galacticos ,triumphing against one of the big money giants .I hope they win the big cup too.

Itend to agree mate – I don’t think the advertising convinces anyone who currently does not read a paper to suddenly start buying it. And you are correct to state that many people in Scotland buy the DR because of it’s political viewpoint which chimes with many who have grown up with the Labour Party being the main political focus.
Football clubs that are also companies have a difficult balancing act. They have shareholders, customers and supporters (sometimes the same thing but not always) to satisfy. The problem is that what satisfies a supporter does not necessarily satisfy a customer or a shareholder. I think Celtic are a big enough organisation that they do not need to take the DRs money – there are other organisations who would pay to advertise at Celtic Park. However, once they do take the DRs money, they are in a difficult position if the DR prints rubbish. Should they say something? As a fan I may want them to have nothing to do with the DR. As a shareholer I may not. As a customer – maybe I don’t care.
For me personally, the fan in me wants them not to deal with the DR. That’s #because Celtic is more to me than a commercial vehicle. The big debate (as you know from reading these pages) is whether the club is on the same page as the fans. From their actions, it appears they are often not – they are finding it difficult to balance. Can they be on the same page as the fans? Maybe but maybe not. Maybe a PLC is the wrong structure if we want to be part of a club. Maybe once we are a club we can start to look at being more than a club.
What`s the difference between a nook and a cranny? And has ANYBODY ever searched all of them? Has anybody ever turned EVERY stone over?

Many on here have said that a plc ownership model is not ideal for Celtic because it causes a conflict of interest between shareholders and fans of the “Celtic” ethos.
What alternative would you propose?
I am no great fan of the plc model because it does force Celtic into compromises with some dodgy characters and businesses such as Sky, the DR etc.
