Juve think they got a lucky draw but are scared of Celtic Park

1106

Juventus’ closest journalist gave their fans a preview of what The Old Lady can expect next week.  Apparently, Juve were lucky drawing Celtic, who are not the same as the team who beat them 4-3 11 seasons ago (but didn’t qualify for the knock out stage).

The outcome of the second leg is a formality, but Celtic Park has them spooked:

“Juventus got a benign [Champions League] draw, even lucky.

“The Bhoys are not the same team who beat Juventus 4-3 a few years ago.  They have a few gems, like [Tony] Watt, but bet everything on physical and dead-ball football.  Celtic Park is absolutely extraordinary, it goes beyond what you can write, read or tell.  What you see on television is not even the smallest part of what you endure in the flesh, 60,000 people do not offend you but make you know you are in the enemy camp.

“The Park is one of the most influential and dangerous stages in the world.  It has everything to challenge you, to induce the classic ‘bad day’, to give you stomach cramps and the need to get out as soon as possible.  The fact Celtic beat Barcelona there was not random.

“Common sense suggests Celtic cannot beat Barcelona but football said different.  They did with merit, playing beyond their means and with a little luck.  This is what Juventus will need to be wary of.

“Antonio Conte will hammer into his players not to underestimate their opponents, but for once it is not the team, it’s the stadium the need to worry about.

“Forget folklore images of children wearing green and white scarves, or of fans coming out of Scottish pubs and going to the game by finishing a beer and ordering another.  Don’t let the chorus of ‘You’ll never walk alone’ charm you if you have not heard it with your own ears.  To watch from your HD TV is one thing, be there for 90 minutes, start to finish, ever if you’re winning, is different.

“Celtic are different than usual teams.  Juventus fans, if they behave the way they should and live this adventure the right way, will have a great experience.  The Juventus Stadium can be a bit like Celtic Park.  We Italians miss their culture, their history, their being able to accept any defeat and celebrate every possible outcome, accepting any opponent.  Their team will be sacred of Juventus but their stadium and fans will not say the same thing.”

We’ll play our part on Tuesday but I am sure Neil Lennon and his players will be pleased to hear they are considered something of a sideshow.  The victory over Barcelona was a magnificent but it was achieved as a result of a tactical master-plan, nothing less. It’s the men in green and white hoops Juve need to watch.

And if someone can supply the required info,it is defo worth doing for anyone else, too.

My sincere condolences on your sad loss – my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time

Football is great but in truth it is or should be a small part of our lives.

The tie with Juventus brings back memories of my mothers passing

It was the season we defeated them 4 – 3 but all the normal enjoyment we would have had at such a great result was cast aside as we waited with her in hospital for the inevitable

She was a life long fan and indeed it was she who took me to some of my first ever games

1967 SCF 126,000 at Hampden and a couple of years later the EC semi final with at least 136,000 – what times for a wee lad of 9 and 11!

She might have been small in stature but in spirit and love she was a giant!

She delighted in any victory we had on the park and loved being able to see my dad enjoy his season ticket. This from the old days when the club was run from Desmond White’s office above the chip shop! She suffered a heart attack and never recovered. However her faith was even stronger than her affection for the Bhoys and since my dad had gone on before her she was fully packed and ready to go!

These are the people who have made us what we are today and I thank God ever day for their love and guidance. I believe that they will always be with us and hope that our Polish Friend can feel the same

On planet football however lets see off the Highlanders today and let Tuesday take care of itself!

Monday is the actual day but will celebrate in the meeting tomorrow night, thanks LCT for yer support and kind words, it’s going well, I’m a Happy Hoop again..

    Enjoy yer day Mate..

  7. Brogan Rogan……….you mention Juarez may be playing, is that the Mexican guy – I thought he had gone from the club?

  8. BIGbones8867..

The injury to Chiellini was a big blow for Juve . They badly miss his defensive quality and his on field motivation/organization ..

They have badly missed Asamoah —— .

Key players like Marchisio and Vidal have been injured and ill . Both have lost form . Both are said to be far from 100%.

Conte has tried to calm the hype re the Fiorentina game . The last thing he wants is his players playing in a war against Fiorentina

  9. I wonder who the two Scottish journalists were who gave him the whisky?

Who in Scottish journalism has the travel budget to go to see Juventus train in Italy before Juventus play Celtic in Glasgow? Why would they be handing out bottles of whisky? Why would they be allowed in?

Was this, per chance, Conte having a wee joke?

  10. BRTH ,

Don’t want to be pernickety , but Juarez left about 14 months ago -:)

PS , I would try and make the defence today as close as feasible to Tuesday’s, even if that risks injury. Last thing we want is a back 4 bedding in against Juve

We can then look at Ambrose – if he is back and fit , we we can play him, if not, we have a plan B

  11. It’s the kids ‘going away’ parties today.

Wife just told me they’ll be having Jelly and Ice Cream! Might need to warm up a couple of songs for Tuesday night.

Hankray & Others take absolutely no notice of me whatsoever as I am famously useless on a Saturday morning with a complete inability to transmit thoughts from Brain to anywhere.

For Jaurez read Kayal— or any other smallish international midfielder who is in and out of the team.

  15. Zbyszek , good bless you and your family

green vs. pl will only have one winner. i sometimes get annoyed with the pl’s running of the club because he gives little away until its done i.e. celtic have never talked about the celtic tiangle plans etc… yet we have all seen the plans so why not tell us how and when its happening etc… then i look across the city at a 3rd division owner shouting about everything thats going to happen and thats when i remind myself why pl and celtic dont say anything until its done, its simple you look like a clown. green should take note.

Any truth in the rumour that Chuckles offered Juve the use of Murray Park for a fee of £400k?

That this matches the amount sought by Orlit is purely coincidental…
