Juve think they got a lucky draw but are scared of Celtic Park

1106

Juventus’ closest journalist gave their fans a preview of what The Old Lady can expect next week.  Apparently, Juve were lucky drawing Celtic, who are not the same as the team who beat them 4-3 11 seasons ago (but didn’t qualify for the knock out stage).

The outcome of the second leg is a formality, but Celtic Park has them spooked:

“Juventus got a benign [Champions League] draw, even lucky.

“The Bhoys are not the same team who beat Juventus 4-3 a few years ago.  They have a few gems, like [Tony] Watt, but bet everything on physical and dead-ball football.  Celtic Park is absolutely extraordinary, it goes beyond what you can write, read or tell.  What you see on television is not even the smallest part of what you endure in the flesh, 60,000 people do not offend you but make you know you are in the enemy camp.

“The Park is one of the most influential and dangerous stages in the world.  It has everything to challenge you, to induce the classic ‘bad day’, to give you stomach cramps and the need to get out as soon as possible.  The fact Celtic beat Barcelona there was not random.

“Common sense suggests Celtic cannot beat Barcelona but football said different.  They did with merit, playing beyond their means and with a little luck.  This is what Juventus will need to be wary of.

“Antonio Conte will hammer into his players not to underestimate their opponents, but for once it is not the team, it’s the stadium the need to worry about.

“Forget folklore images of children wearing green and white scarves, or of fans coming out of Scottish pubs and going to the game by finishing a beer and ordering another.  Don’t let the chorus of ‘You’ll never walk alone’ charm you if you have not heard it with your own ears.  To watch from your HD TV is one thing, be there for 90 minutes, start to finish, ever if you’re winning, is different.

“Celtic are different than usual teams.  Juventus fans, if they behave the way they should and live this adventure the right way, will have a great experience.  The Juventus Stadium can be a bit like Celtic Park.  We Italians miss their culture, their history, their being able to accept any defeat and celebrate every possible outcome, accepting any opponent.  Their team will be sacred of Juventus but their stadium and fans will not say the same thing.”

We’ll play our part on Tuesday but I am sure Neil Lennon and his players will be pleased to hear they are considered something of a sideshow.  The victory over Barcelona was a magnificent but it was achieved as a result of a tactical master-plan, nothing less. It’s the men in green and white hoops Juve need to watch.

  1. Does embdy remember a great wee r&b /pop covers band in the 60’s in Glasgow called ” The Human Beings “? Played The Bundoran Club on Sauciehall St. at the weekend for us young bhoys and ghirls.

    Magic it was.

Just feeling all nostalgic. And why not?!

  2. Just finished Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby.

A music setting, with talk of albums and obsessive fans.

But really just a book about people.

A wonderfully written book about people.

Classic Hornby, a wee bit slow at first, then you need these people in your life.

Or at least, you need to hear about them.

How does this bedroom tax work then?

If you are unemployed, and the house you are in is deemed too big for your “needs” they deduct benefit accordingly?

What happens if you decide to alleviate the housing problem that this mob say is caused by such claimants?

By,say, letting out that room to someone who needs it?

Will the system reward you by docking said benefits further?

Well the way I work it,

I should live in a castle with 25 bedrooms, only 23 on suit, but that’s enought to be getting on with.

Well, I don’t live in a 25 bedroom castle so they owe me £142 per week per bedroom for wasted resources, so when charges are applied to everyone in the country, without exception, it’s fair

IRC,Dylan wrote that about the sister of a former girlfriend, later regretting the disparaging comparisons he used in it.

A tale of unrequited love,indeed-but maybe with a spiteful sting which he has always been good at.

A bit of a man for the GIRUY,darling…….

  7. Ballad in plain D,…years since i listened to it,some lines could be a song in their own right.

Having had the pleasure of your company last Friday evening I can report that I spent a lovely eving with your sister tonight discussing all sorts of issues. It was slightly easier to get a word in this week – but only just.

I have first four chapters of book for you to read…

  11. wife gave me homemade lasagna tonight even though i knew it was home made it took me donkeys to eat it, bloody night mare so gave up n said was going out for a bite, she took a fence then horse whipped me for my mule like stubbornness, then decided to join me for the meal, she out a pony in my pocket(only fools and horses style)so not to look a gift horse in the mouth we headed for our starters she had horse d’hoofs and i said neigh, for the main we both ordered blue stake, after tasting the waiter was called simultaneously we both said they’re off. the waiter suggested an alternative, but i told him i was under orders from the chief whip not to horse about ,so we were off again not settling the bill(would have loved to have seen their long faces) im sure the restaurant had many hands out searching but im sure you have guessed ,they never could find us

I have. Chased nfo for you and the best way to see the game is to jump a taxi 10. Miles down the coast – torremelonenonos or the the like for the football

  13. BMCUW:

With all the confusion between the vast array of legal entities involved with the deadco FC saga, I think it might take a team of very expensive lawyers to sort out who owns what and who owes what to whom.

Needless to say, the real winners from all of this are those very expensive lawyers. (Especially if they happen to dislike deadco FC into the bargain!!!)

  14. Early morning in a chilly Dorset.

All the best to you fine bhoys and ghirls.

I hope we do well in Inverness today to send us off for the big ‘un on Tuesday with a spring in our step.

” May the road rise with you. ”

    HH!

  15. Funny how you get the feeling you know people who post on here. The thing of being a part of The Celtic Community.

Then you actually meet one of the anonymous faces and it’s like greeting an old friend.

    Yer a good lot.

Even disagreements get resolved amicably (most of the time) and the level of respect I’ve seen between some of you who have been acquainted for years is outstanding.

The level of knowledge of all things Celtic is encyclopaedic and has taught me a lot.

I feel privileged to have been accepted on here, and in all seriousness, my life has been improved by just being here.

I say these things because so often folk go through life not syaing the things they wish they had……then it’s all too late.

So, thanks for allowing me to speak to you, and perhaps one day I’ll get to meet more of you.

    Hail Hail!

  16. Valentine's Day on

    Good morning Timland.

The hun’s offer MP to Juve, no big deal…………..or maybe they’re trying

too get our attention ………………bit like a ant nipping at a lion’s tail

  17. Good morning CQN

Safe journey to all those travelling to and from the game today

    Come you Bhoys in green

    Keep the Faith

    Hail Hail

  18. Well another Glasgow derby day. I wonder if the plucky new club will come bout on top this time.

It seems like they are destined to come and go like Gretna and the original Livingston. Only a quicker life cycle.

Ah well. At least it has stopped raining.

  19. Anyone wanting to sample some great craft beers and unique whisky beers the pop along to Glasgow west End Farmers Market next to the Lismore Pub or to Castle Terrace Market in Edinburgh. 10 until 2.

  20. Good morning friends from a damp and extremely foggy East Kilbride.

To run or not to run,,,,

  21. Morning all!

That’s me a year and a day older now – feeling a wee bit fragile this morning, but happy!

Many thanks once again for the best wishes yesterday!

Rest a few players today – cant take any chances before Tuesday.

To all those going today – safe there and back and enjoy!

Clear blue skies here – 7 degrees, but feels colder with a chill wind blowing in from the snow-capped mountains in the near distance.

    HH!!
