Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier. He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.
Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.
He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.
“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.
“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.
“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.
“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

Me and Mrs BGFC just off out to Glasgow for the day. Is there anywhere showing the Liverpool game?
get me
The world stood in awe at Parkhead the night we played Barcelona last season.
The tifo and atmosphere was heralded by all who saw it.
A half decent centre half claims it would be bettered by a second rate, second tier English ground.
Piss off Wilson you’ve never had it so good and you’ll only appreciate that when it’s too late.
Pie!!
Good afternoon all
The game is being shown live on Celtic TV from just prior to 1700 hrs. :))

Kelvin Wilson
How many players who have signed for Celtic claim they supported them as a kid, or playing in the league cup for Celtic against Arbroath was better than playing in the world cup? He’s a footballer playing to his new crowd… Get over it…
Kelvin Wilson’s comments are reminiscent of my Dad on the occasion of his silver wedding, following me buying him and my Mum a bottle of classic wine from each of the great rivers in France, each a vintage of the year they were married:
“These French wines are all very well and good, but your Mother and I prefer the classic German plonk.”
Whatever butters yer toast I suppose.

Better than my dismissal of him
Btw i was never convinced …any trawl thro my previous posts would show that
Too soft ….his pace got him out of bother more often than not
Haven’t really forgiven him for his awful defending against Killie which cost us the cup
.
GordonJ..
If l went to the Maracana Stadium to Watch Santos Vs Real Madrid..in the 60’s or 70’s in Front of 300,000 Supporters..
It would Not (IMHO) Be a Better Atmosphere to when Celtic came back to Beat the Might Gretna at Fir Park..

Radio Clyde waxing lyrical for a 3rd division team, newly promoted from the 4th ……. Very amusing….

I think that game was 68 mate…69 they beat us 1:0 or 2:1 at bigotdome but we knocked them out the following wednesday at CP, big Gemmell off his nose.
My memory of that night was queuing up to enter the Celtic end…massive roar…thought we’d scored early, but the teams were being announced and a ‘very doubtful’ Jinky was playing. Thats what the wee man meant to us at that time.
Great night.
Good afternoon champions, very refreshing ( and about time ) to see a journalist give Sir Cardigan his character, Glen Gibbons of the Scotsman clearly not “on message”.
I wonder how long the article will be up before Jabba tries to have it pulled.
Hail Hail
Irony from the BBC?

I thought overall he had a good second season but think that both Mulgrew and Lustig are better than him.
I appreciate that he’s playing to the audience and his new employers but seriously, he expects anyone to believe that pish??
As I said…..pie!
Fellow Tims, my cousin’s Bhoy has written this article, please give it a read.

That period will always be a major contributer to Scotland’s Shame ….
“A Trailist” scores at Ibrox.
Cue the media’s outrage at an ineligible player scoring … oh maybe not
This from Twitter made me giggle:

Absolutely…….
On the Legend that is Walter Smith.
In Scottish footballing terms of knowing the kind of player needed to rule the roost in the Scottish chicken run, , within the narrow confines of that space he knew what was wanted and in that very narrow spectrum he is a legend.
Now how he went about procuring his roosters is a different story and that is where the other meaning of legend takes over.
Readers of spy novels will know that anyone placed undercover gets a legend built around them.
Indeed one of the most famous legends in history was a dead man, kitted out to look what he was’nt and dumped at sea off the Spanish coast with false documents to fool the Germans.
Operation Mincemeat was the term used but the movie had a more apt title “The Man Who Neve Was”.
And that is the legend Glen Gibbons attempts to address, with kudos for even trying, in his article.
Smith did as much as SDM to kill off his club.
His £29m gross spend in 2007/08 (£10m net after transfers out) if directed elsewhere, like reducing debt and providing for the £24m tax bill whose outcome is still in the balance, this is the stuff of legend debunking and finally someone has started to lift the lid on the man who never was.
How Did We End Up Here ?

http://thecelticnetwork.com/2013/08/10/how-did-we-end-up-here/
How did we as a support and a Club end up in this place where we are turning against our own ?
What is actually going on now ? A section of our ‘family’ has been deemed not fit for purpose by the ‘custodians’ of our club. And for what ? Jumping up and down, singing and occasionally blocking a passage way ?
This is an utter nonsense, I’ve seen some rubbish on the web in my time but questioning fellow supporters for bouncing about is a new one for me.
Going by some of the comments I’ve read on social media we have a section of our ‘family’ who have never jumped off a seat or hugged each other after a goal. In a matter of weeks the former heartbeat of our stadium have become persona non grata. Seemingly it’s ok to get injured during goal celebrations against Barca. Now that’s a bit strange considering there are no recorded injuries in the one section the Board have chose to ‘disperse’.
All I would ask is that the accusers provide real documented evidence against those that they have convicted. If they have a genuine case then I’ll shut up and be suitably humbled.
I won’t hold my breath, I’m still waiting to hear the ‘custodians’ of our club stand up for a man in his 70′s who was held in a Kettle by Police Scotland.
This is my personal view. I do not speak for our partners.

Free Celtic tv on Sky…..?
Sno askin much izz it..?
Rather than listening to the Radio, why not catch up on Billy No Wells Desert Island Tims with George Galloway.
The description of Lochee is very good.
and his grandas entry in the book of quotations, marvellous.

So, according to Kelvin Wilson, the atmosphere at the City Ground is even better than that produced by the Celtic fans last year at the Barca match?!
What planet is this guy on?
The tifo at CP last November reverberated around the world – I’ve not come across anything similar down Nottingham way.
Enjoy life in the English second tier, and playing for a ‘manager’ who refused to sanction your transfer to CFC in January and then froze you out of first team affairs for the remainder of the season.

Last chance saloon for those that missed my posts earlier this morning :
CQN Saturday Naps
Lads, for all the mug-punters out there…
the CQN Naps competition resumes again this Saturday, and green T has already signed up to defend his crown.
In order to confirm your entry, please send me an e-mail stating your CQN username to : fleagle29 at ymail.com
After that, the RULES are relatively simple :
a) each Saturday log onto the last page of the previous CQN article.
b) post only ONE ‘nap’ selection from any major Saturday horserace meeting (e.g. UK, Ireland, Dubai)
c) if your selection is a Non-Runner, you may select an alternative – as long as it also runs on the Saturday.
d) if your nap wins, you will “win” the hypothetical profit from a £1 stake @ Starting Prices (S.P.)
e.g. selection wins at 9/4, your hypothetical profit is +£2.25
e.g. selection wins at 5/1, your hypothetical profit is +£5.00
e) if your nap loses or if you fail to post a selection, you will “lose” your £1 hypothetical stake (-£1)
f) if you want to join the competition late (e.g. in Week 3) you will be allocated 2 losers, and will start the competition from (-£2)
g) Our winner and CQN Naps Champion Tipster will be the CQN punter who shows the greatest overall profit during the season.
Last season the competition lasted for 43 weeks, and green T was the champion tipster, with +£21.35 profit
Happy punting everyone…
:o)
Cheers, fleagle1888

Lads, for those who want to enter the CQN Saturday Naps competition, please go back and post today’s selection – for week 1 – at the end of the previous CQN article :

All the best, fleagle1888
“Rangers Director of Communications James Traynor said: “We are aware of our contractual obligations but we also have to be aware of our duty to protect the players, manager and supporters against reporting which lacks logic, balance and fairness.”

Traynor hits out an reporting which lacks balance. Brilliant!
