Karagandy manager on Celtic and his own players

1898

Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier.  He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.

Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.

He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.

“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.

“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.

“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.

“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

Can’t argue with that…… Due to the way we have been treated by some …… But the CL is fantastic, and our Club will always strive to realise that ambition ….. There is a precedent, after all…..incidentally, 20 iar is eminently achieveable…

    Bring back the GB……

A fine read and fairly cheered me up this morning. Fine blogger, worth a wee read of some of the other articles on that blog. All very interesting and good reading.

“I haven’t made my mind up yet as to whether or not I will abstain from voting as a shareholder.

But at this stage I would say that if you have a vote you’d be stupid not to use it.”

    Good lord!

  5. No Bobby Does It Petta on

The spine of the team has been removed, in the sale of Hooper, Wanyama and Wilson. Two of this three were arguably our best players.

So far, they have been replaced by two injury-prone squad players from Holland, and a target man with a poor goal scoring record.

This is surely the poorest squad we have ever had going into a Champions League campaign (assuming we stumble through the next qualifier.

    Release the chequebook.

  6. Having seen Celtic on Wed night, Unless we improve we are in danger of going out in the final qualifying round. We were a mess all over the park. Big improvement required if we are to proceed. Despite the travel, which is a problem, this is a good draw and you would expect Celtic to win this without breaking sweat, but having seen hem in Germany per season and in the qualifying games this could go either way. Stokes is not an option up front in Europe. Don’t know about Balde, no one has seen him but if he is behind Stokes in the pecking order, then we are in trouble. Big improvements required right across the park. Watch them tonight against Liverpool. Will get rolled over and I can’t see a goal in Celtic from anywhere?

BBC and SPFL face Ibrox stand off

James Traynor RangersThe SPFL are facing a broadcasting dispute when the BBC attempt to cover today’s Sevco v Brechin City match.

In the final game of last season the Third Division champions banned the state broadcaster from covering the match with that situation unresolved.

The BBC has a contract with the SPFL to provide live radio commentary but can expect to find access denied when they appear at Ibrox.

Responding to questions about the BBC at a supporters Q and A on Thursday night Jim Traynor stated: ”The leaks are scandalous, it’s not right. The BBC are banned. They are supposed to be here on Saturday.

“They have paid to be here but they won’t be getting in. They can complain to the SPFL and it’ll be up to them if they want to sanction the club but hopefully it won’t come to that.”

Discussing his own salary Traynor added: “My salary is the same as my previous two jobs. No more, no less. My job isn’t just about PR. I’m involved in restructuring RangersTV, restructuring other platforms and bringing in Wifi to the stadium. Unfortunately these have been sidelined due to the need for ‘crisis PR’.”

After throwing the BBC out of Ibrox in May a club statement read: “RANGERS Football Club can confirm the BBC is no longer welcome at Ibrox Stadium or Murray Park.

“The club asked BBC journalists to leave the stadium ahead of today’s Division Three title party against Berwick Rangers.

“Rangers Director of Communications James Traynor said: “We are aware of our contractual obligations but we also have to be aware of our duty to protect the players, manager and supporters against reporting which lacks logic, balance and fairness.”

  9. I should have mentioned the Tontine Tim listed chapter and verse big Wattie’s desertions.

He appears to have walked more often tha the local Orange and Purple.

  12. Why should THEY honour BBC contract when THEY honour little else.

Bet my holiday pay that Jabba never, never, never ever wrote a story based on leaks.

  13. Yes we have 2 massive CLQ games coming up but if we are taking good money from fans for the Liverpool game, put a decent team out not a reserve team.

  14. Re the Gibbons’ article and Sir Walter of no surname walking away, at the start of the season they were going for nine in a row he said he was leaving at the end of the season. One reasom given was the abuse he was getting from hun fans about his poor record in European games was too much for him and his family who were getting it too. So of he went.

Didn’t realise £5m was spent on Van Dijk & Boerrigter to bolster the squad and not be first team players. Thanks for the info!!

We must be in a strong financial position if we can spend that amount on money on bench warmers!!

  16. Summa

If they ban the BBC they should give the money they get back to them .

Typical of the huns they take public money in this case licence fees and don’t want to give it back.

    Like the look of stilitchi.

Note sure if he has recovered from a rash challenge last year though.

  20. The SPFL has a contractual duty to make sure the BBC has access to Ibrox. All clubs have a duty to make this happen. The SPFL should therefore charge The Rangers with breaching league rules:

“I11 The Clubs and Candidate Clubs and each of them shall not by act or omission

infringe any exclusive rights granted by the Company in a Commercial Contract in

relation to Radio Transmission and/or Transmission or otherwise cause any breach

    thereof to occur.”

Derk was undeniably a squad player at Ajax.

From what I saw last week, and granted it’s not much game time, he will be another expensive squad player for us.

    HH.

  22. Haven’t really posted since the game on Wednesday.

I know that the mantra of “we’re through and that’s all that matters!” will have been repeated ad nauseum. However, it was as poor a performance as I can remember.

I think Efe is always going to be liable to make far too many to be played in either a central defensive role or in midfield.

It is imperative that at least one centre half and a prolific striker are signed if we are to attain anywhere near the success of last season.

Maybe it’s just me, but I have always had the distict impression that the BBC / SFA etc have been ‘protecting’ sevco, which is contributing to their forthcoming demise…..if they had investigated Agent Whyte a greengo at the outset, a different outcome MAY have resulted.

Bring back the GB…..and they will behave themselves, with regard to broken seats etc
